Anthony Weiner: even worse than portrayed

Anthony Weiner stepped down from his office yesterday, and Glenn was more than happy to see him go off into obscurity. But what did Glenn learn from Weiner over the years? Quite a bit as it turned out.

“We’re going to have to do without, without one of the most unlikable figures in American political history.  Remember, there is a guy who was capable of being completely unlikable.  Even when he was arguing for healthcare, for 9/11 responders, he was unlikable,” Glenn said.

While Weiner proved himself to be exceptionally arrogant, smarmy, and condescending but it was his ability to lie that put him in a league of his own among the politicians in Washington, DC.

“ He could say anything, look and sound the exact same way.  He could lie to your face, whether you were his wife, his Twitter pic receiver, his constituent, or his enemy, he could do it and believe it.  It didn’t matter if he was lying about Goldline or healthcare or his own wiener shots.”

Long time listeners and viewers will remember that Weiner tried to use all of his congressional powers to take down Glenn and his sponsor, Goldline. Weiner said, “But whether it’s illegal for Glenn Beck to do it, probably not.  I certainly think it’s unethical for them to be having a commentary program that talks about the sky is falling and then those very same commentators are paid advertisers for companies like Goldline.  Glenn Beck and FOX News and others, they should be ashamed of them because frankly, these companies — it has now been well documented — are rip offs.”

Glenn pointed out this morning, however, that anyone who listened to Weiner ended up losing out on a lot of money. “ Since that statement, my investment, my personal investment in Goldline, is up 40%.  That’s in one year.  What a rip off it has turned out to be.  At the exact same time he was flexing naked in the congressional mirror and sending pictures to girls half his age, he was trying to destroy my business and the business of my clients with lies, half truths, and smears.  He knew that he was lying.  In his congressional report, he cited commentators on message boards as evidence against Goldline, even while the Better Business Bureau was giving them an A plus rating and the exact consumer report, the exact consumer reporting site that he was referring to was saying you can be completely confident, safe and secure, when doing business with Goldline.  Got it?  He’s citing it and that’s what it says.”

But what was scariest about Weiner was his ability to simultaneously lie while at the same time feeding his own narcissism. “In the middle of a controversy that could crush his career, his family and his marriage, his wife, by the way, is pregnant, he was psychotically giving back-handed compliments to the size of his own manhood on national television, while acting like he’s being self-deprecating.  It is a loop of mental gymnastics only achieved by the mental patients and serial killers we normally lock up,” Glenn said.

“I want you to know, this is a man who tried to destroy my business.  He used the full weight and power of the United States Congress to destroy my business.  I don’t feel bad for him.  He did this to himself,” Glenn explained.

Ultimately, however, it was Weiner’s attacks on Glenn that inspired him to start building a news and information system based around the truth. “He’s not an enemy of mine.  He’s an enemy of the truth.  In many ways Weiner inspired The Blaze, because I found hope that the truth will set you free and if you’re not standing within the truth, it will burn your life to the ground.  That blaze is true and I testify to its truth today.  The truth has no agenda.  When you realize that, you’ll be able to do what I did, let go, let go in the faith and the firm reliance of divine providence.”

“But we should learn something else, that when you stand for the truth, when you don’t let anger force you into stupidity, eventually the ship will right itself.  You just have to remain standing.  The people attacking you with lies will be buried under their own weight.  I believe in this.  It has been true for all of eternity in the past and all eternity in the future.  In a small way, in the time in all eternity, in a very small way, with a little man, even smaller than his stature, a little man named Weiner has proved that true.”
