From radio: Tax Tables

Noel Sheppard at Newsbusters has some amazing analysis of Romney’s tax return, and the tax system in general, up HERE. Glenn just discussed this article on radio, and wanted you to be able to see the Tax Tables Sheppard used in his article. You can see those below, and be sure to check back soon for Glenn and Stu’s analysis shortly.

Making assumptions from what little we know of Buffets”s secretary and her income.  All assumptions point to an income between $200,000-$500,000 per year.

  • W S

Didn’t Romney pay income tax on the money he is now reaping capital gains on back when he first earned it?  So to say that he’s only paying 15% is really not correct since he already paid some income tax on the original earnings.

  • http://www.artinphoenix.com/gallery/grimm snowleopard (cat folk gallery)

Interesting indeed. We see how much of an witch hunt the left is on against all opposition.

  • Anonymous

We should not pay income tax anyway. I could care less what Romney did or didn’t pay.
I honestly don’t care if he even CHEATED on his taxes.

  • landofaahs

I think all income should be taxed equally.  Captal gains should be taxed art the same rate from $1 to $1 trillion a year.

  • landofaahs

Glenn is helping them.  Once again he goes after Newt and leaved Mitt for brains alone.  Glenn’s witch hunt against all mitts opponents that have a resonable chance of victory.

  • landofaahs

Yep. One tax and make everyone pay the same percentage.  I would go back to the original tariff on imports.

  • Anonymous

I agree. The whole tax code is crazy. Tariff’s on imports would be great and would help boost job growth in the U.S.

  • Anonymous

I care if he cheated on his taxes. If he did, it should be public knowledge so that all the folks that still think Romney is a decent candidate finally jump ship. It should be automatic – any candidate that cheats on their taxes should be disqualified.

  • Anonymous

That’s your decision. I personally don’t care about it. The way the tax code is now is wrong and unfair. Certain classes of people get more stolen from them than others.

I don’t like Romney or Newt. But their taxes mean absolutely nothing to me.

  • landofaahs

Watch the utube video “eat the rich”  even a liberal may be smart enough to get the clue….but don’t count on it.

  • landofaahs

And even better, it would put the power of how much the govt. receives back into the hands of the consumer.  If the consumer does not buy an import, the govt. does not get the tax.

  • landofaahs

Geitner just for starts. I bet little o also has some splainin to do.  Kick all the democrats out. Not a bad idea.

It isn’t about the TAXES Mitt paid or Newt or anyone else…it is about the unjustified attack.  And for landofaahs…Glenn has stated many times that Mitt SCARES HIM TO DEATH!!    Glenn has actually said he is probably voting for Santorum!!  So lando…get a clue first please.

Next to W S…totally right…the money that ANYBODY invests has already been taxed once by the Federal government..why do they get the right to tax it again just because I invested it wisely and made a profit on that investment, they already took their share once.

Now about the tax code..the flat tax..the fair tax…all the plans are GARBAGE!!  None of them are FAIR or FLAT.  Eric Bolton said it this morning…the ONLY TRULY FAIR FLAT TAX is a Consumption Tax… Hmm…sounds like the 9-9-9 Plan that Herman Cain put out that everybody attacked him on.  Yes it is a VAT or National Sales Tax…OOOH…Scary words..however you wish to characterize it but that is the only TRUE FAIR and FLAT thing to do.  Let me earn my money however I choose..the American Dream…and then you can tax me when I buy something with it…I don’t care..set the rate at 9% or 19%  FINE!!!  If I don’t want to pay it, I just don’t BUY anything but my necessities.   No exemptions, No cut off or tax credit pay back from the Federal government, No “if you make under this amount” you pay nothing…

Fair means FAIR – if I pay it EVERYBODY does regardless of how much they make at their job, on their investments, with their company, or any other LEGAL way of making money.  OH!!  And a National Sales Tax would get all those criminals who operate under the law and never claim income…well  they would be FORCED to pay taxes on those big homes, fancy cars, gold teeth and chains, and the like….we might not be stopping their behavior but we would stop the tax cheats in the USA….think of all the BILLIONS we lose a year due to people finding loop holes, lying, or just not filing and hoping they don’t get caught.

IF YOU BUY IT – YOU PAY IT… FAIR PERIOD!!

Get more stolen from them??? If you’re talking about Romney vs everyone’s uncle that makes $50,000 a year – qualify that. How is Romney (or Gingrich) having to pay a higher percentage supposed to make him any less culpable for breaking the law than Joe Blow?

Seriously, you need to step back and reassess what you’re talking about here.

Let’s just speculate that 50K guy needs at least 30K to live off a year. You do realize that he still has to pay all the local and state taxes after federal income tax, just like good ole Romney. 50K guy has to pay whatever fees are included for his state and localized area. 50K guy is lucky if he has 30K to live off after taxes and fees. Then, 50K guy also has to buy insurance now too. Car insurance, health insurance, and depending on where he lives he may have to buy other insurances such as homeowners insurance as well. 50K guy doesn’t typically have enough money left over to buy a whole lot of anything. Mortgages, rent, utility bills, garbage haul away, etc… Stuff that Romney may or may not pay for but certainly doesn’t have to sweat.

So what happens to 50K guy if his taxes get screwed up by even $500? What if the IRS doesn’t catch it until years after the supposed screw up? 50K guy doesn’t typically have every shred of paper from however long ago that tax screw up happened. 50K guy can be as straight as an arrow with his finances and still end up sweating staying out of jail because the IRS says he owes back taxes, interest, and fees. He can’t afford lawyers and accountants.

There are at least 100 50K guys for every Romney. They go to jail and/or have their property and assets seized when they screw up honestly and can’t fix it. They go to jail and/or have their property and assets seized when they cheat on their taxes. When the Romneys of the world screw up 9 times out of 10 they get to go home after paying a penalty. They have the luxury of paying lawyers and accountants to save their rears.

50% of $1,000,000 still leaves Romney with $500,000. 20% of $50,000 leaves 50K guy with $40,000. There’s a lot smaller margin of error just for 50K guy to survive.

I don’t think people with high incomes should have to pay a higher percentage just because they have a higher income. I don’t believe in redistribution of wealth. But I sure as hell believe in the rule of law, and I take particular issue with the notion that because Romney pays more to begin with that his cheating on his taxes is a lesser offense than someone that earns less. Such thinking is what has led to the financial rape of this nation’s wealth.

And all this is not even factoring integrity, ethics, moral obligation, and accountability.

You don’t care? Fine for you. But I care. I care A LOT, and I’ll be damned before I write a pass for anyone running for office that has cheated on their taxes and I don’t care what letter comes after their name; (R) or (D).

You’re missing the point. I don’t think anyone should pay income tax. I believe it is thievery. Therefore I don’t care WHO cheats on their taxes.

  • Anonymous

Are you saying you think the tax system is wrong because it is unconstitutional or illegal, or are you saying it is invalid because it is “unfair” and that it is unfair because it taxes some at a different rate than others?

  • http://twitter.com/TheDJSdog Dallin Snell

Could someone please post a link to the original IRS page this was found on?? I just know if I don’t, someone is going to shove in my face that “you shouldn’t trust anything Glenn Beck says…heck, he’s a conspiracy theorist.” It would be much appreciated, thanks!

I’m just giving my opinion on why It’s a non-issue for me. I’m not arguing the legality of it.

It is from the IRS spreadsheet that the newsbusters article links to. http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-soi/09in11si.xls

Then I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree then. Good luck finding a candidate with integrity among those who cheat on their taxes.

Obama should be IMPEACHED for not upholding  the Constitution

  • Anonymous

LOL!! Yeah. Because I first look for a candidate that cheats on his taxes, then I go from there.

He’s not taxed on the old money he already paid taxes on.  He is taxed by the net gain of the investments, the profit.  The tax rate on these investments is lower than working income tax.  He also has a job he pays income tax on.  The investments probably make more than his job, so his averaged net tax % is low.  I’m not a Mitt fan, just don’t care to hear about this as a show-stopper any longer.  Income tax on my pay check is a much larger percentage than on my tax return when it’s all said and done.  Everyone should check theirs when they complete their taxes.
