Been around enough goats in my life – neighbours of my grandfather went on vacation one summer, left the window down on their car – goats ate most of the interior. When the neighbors came back we got invited to a goat dinner.

They are cute. I bought a miniature Jersey two years ago.

We had a miniature goat named “Denise”. She ate our discarded pine Christmas tree — loved it and the paper off a stack of cement bags — left the cement there. She was a cutie!

This is great I just put down a deposit for 2 Nigerian dwarf dairy goats and have been watching goat cams on backyardherds.com. I was planing on going to restoring love but I had to make a choice between going and spending the money I could used to be prepared and my goats are part of that plus my garden, chickens all on a 50×100 sq foot lot LOL. Hoping to still make the trip though.

With the goats out of the barn, it’s like watching grass grow…without the growing.

They’re LaMancha crosses – how awesome!  I raise LaMancha’s.  This year we bred to Nigerian Dwarf buck so we’ll have Mini-Manchas in March & April.

Do they have estimated due date(s)?

The white one is going to bust if things don’t start  moving along.

Gestation is 150 days.  Usually kid within 5 days of that.  Don’t know these goats so can’t say when they were bred.  They are still eating which means it won’t be any time soon.  Also, mine get all “lovey dovey” when they are ready to kid, rubbing up against me all the time when I’m in with them.  I can’t see their udders but those will fill up too right before kidding time.

That one looks a lot like my daaaad.

I think Elle is going to “pop” first!  I’m curious to see if the goats will be separated when the kids start coming.  We used to raise sheep.  Sometimes an old ewe would take a new baby away from its mom if there were twins.

I didn’t know goats ate so much!  They have been eating constantly since I’ve been watching. . . Frank is sure this is a good idea (to raise goats to provide nourishment for the family)?  Looks like they eat A LOT!!!  I suppose living in the High Plains of Texas I know how a drought can cut down on the amount of hay available. . . they are awesome animals.  I’m just not sure about the economics.

Been looking in to getting dairy goats for my family. Everyone thinks I’m crazy! We live on two acres…this is exciting to watch! Thanks:)

I had to send this link to my grand daughter.  She is our family goat expert and has three of her own.  One is due this spring and she is so excited.   She is going to love this goat cam!  She is only 7 but reads everything she can get her hands on that deals with goats, takes a goat magazine and keeps all the records that deal with her goats.  I love this!  Thank you for posting!

Raisedlocal is right they are too comfortable if they are eating like that so no where near being in labor. The udders need to be full and a substance that looks like candle wax will be hanging off the teets when they are within 24 hours of giving birth.

I had one kid this morning who munched between kids. My older doe is at day 151, and she ALWAYS eats hay right up to kidding and then afterward. They’re like people, I suppose: Every one is different.

Looks like the brown one is just chewing her cud, though, not necessarily “eating” as such.

In this day and age of setting day and time for delivery, right down to the minute, it is rather interesting that we are truly “waiting on Mother Nature” to deliver these babies!!!  Just goes to show that technology isn’t everything . . . babies have a way of arriving when the time is right!

Looks like I need to put my goats on the net next kidding season.  We just watch them on the tv with our camera until they go into labor then we go assist if they need us.  These are 2 good looking LaManchas. We have boer goats

@ buckbaster79.  How does one go about doing this (setting up camera for the web).  I have two goats due in the next month and 1/2 and would love to be able to watch them from the house rather than camp out in the barn.

Having raised goats myself for years, I can tell you that you can get attached to them just about as much as you can get attached to the family pet.   We never intended to ‘eat’ them, however we did consume their milk for over 10 years.

Goats are the ideal family milk/cheese machines, because of their size and volume of milk produced.  If memory serves correctly, they are the most efficient producers of milk.

My only problem with their milk, is the exceptionally high butterfat content.  It is twice as high as the butterfat content in “whole cow’s milk”.   Other than that, they are great pets / animals / etc.

I hope that no one’s goats ever get Mastitis, because it is a truly devastating disease for animals.   One of our goats did get Mastitis, and it ultimately crippled her front legs such that she ‘knelt’ the rest of her life except when she had to walk from place to place.   It caused more problems, I just can’t recall them all right now. From a quick search, I see that there are now testing kits that you can have on hand to check the milk for mastitis – before it becomes a crisis for the goat.

Interesting.  Ours ALWAYS stop eating about 12 hours before.  That’s how I know to move them into the kidding pen.  

I check in here every so often and see them eating at the hay and also grain (black pans on far wall, I believe), and when the owners are in there also.

They’re grazers – will eat all day.  

A good way to tell how close they are to delivering is to watch their behavior.  They will be very still while they are having contractions.  By observing you can tell how long the contractions are and how far apart they are.

I sell milk for $12 a gallon and I’m cheap.  If you get the babies to 60 pounds by 8 months or so you can sell them for meat about $3 a pound.  They are also rentable – people pay $725 a day for a herd of 60 to clear land (plus $350 mobilization fee).  Also, if they are registered and shown they can be sold for upwords of $1500.  So raising goats can be a profitable business.

That said, this is only two goats and they aren’t purebred, but still could be registered and shown.  

I was wondering too why they are together.  I always separate mine when they are giving birth.

FYI:  Put some baking soda on the top of their goat chow!  Since they are eating tons of hay, just for the purpose of making sure the other one doesn’t get it, they have tons of gas bloating going on.  Just sprinkle about 1/4 cup of Arm & Hammer’s on top of the food in the bowl.

Also, don’t take the babies away from mom too soon.  They really need their mom’s milk!  People that bottle feed their babies will usually result in the baby goats death.  I would put a fresh bail of straw in as well.  A clean, soft environment usually coaxed my goats into labor within hours.

Agree with the Mastitis.  I had it after my first child, and I had a goat with it.  Keep the field cut low, and clean their teets often!  It will dry up their milk, and force all the babies onto one mother!

PFFFFTTT!!!!!!!!!!!  My family has raised goats for over 35 years and we ALWAYS take babies off from the moment they are born.  We may have had 10 babies die in all that time and we’ve had sometimes upwards of 60 goats.  We bottle feed babies with fresh milk from their mamma and other mammas for 2 to 3-1/2 months.  They do get their own mamma colostrum the first 3 days, but after that it’s goat community milk.

I did say “Mom’s Milk”.  In perfect world, you don’t want any to die.  However, the situations that I’m most concerned is when I see people put them on baby formula or goat formula.

I ‘get’ having goats (milk/meat), chickens (eggs/meat), etc.  But if supply lines are down due too a ‘situation’ how do you get food to feed them?  In SoCal grass/pasture is not readily available.  Our goats are spoiled as just pets since they get fed the same hay the horses get fed.  They are not keen on weeds.

These girls are going to wait until 3am to kid, they know we’ll be asleep.

That’s why I’m working on getting a years supple of hay for my 2 dwarf dairy goats and feed for my chickens with my tax refund, also a 500 gal water tank, and pasture seed and dent corn. Garden scrap will help too, no matter what size your place is, I live on 1/5 an acre.  Milk and eggs will be great for barter.

Yes I do analyze what people write and how they write it, giving out bad information as fact not based on scientific study and analysis isn’t good.  Even the link you provided says nothing about a study or any facts.  The owners are first time goat owners and I’m sure they are reading these posts.  While they may not need to use formula this time around it may come up later and they don’t need hysterics of how they’re going to kill their babies if they use formula.   Quit being so extreme.  

The benefit of goats is that they can eat ‘bad’ hay.  Our horses, however, need good/fresher hay.  Do you have a large shed store store hay and corn? And how do you deter rodents, cats?  I have read how chickens can eat all sorts of scraps/fruit/veggies and clean the insects out of the garden.  I wonder how you get them to eat the insects in the garden and not the plants/vegetables.

Gosh, on that size property, where will you put that water tank? Underground?  One thing I guess we all need to be aware of is if neighbors, or even those from further away, know or find out we have water/gardens/animals we would be targets.

I don’t know about CA…but where I come from (Rural, Ouachita Mountains) goats can survive on just about anything…and so can chickens.  Contrary to popular belief, chickens are omnivores.  If left to their own devices, they can and will survive on bugs, worms, grasses, even carrion.  In the “old days” goats and chickens survived on table scraps and the environment around them.

Remember my goats are 1/3 the size of a standard goat. I have an empty lot next to me,  my animals are on that side.  I live in a resort area where there are weekend cabins, most of the owners come up very rarely and when they do I take extra care that the chickens stay in until 8-8:30am, and give them some eggs, that goes a long way. Chickens will eat up you garden, so they don’t get in there until fall, but they get all the scraps. 12 bales of hay will feed my goats for a year (there small) I have a 4×8 shed to hold most of that. The chicken food is another story, so far have not been able to save more than a couple of months supply for them, but they are paying for themselves now as people are beating down my door for the extra eggs I have. The green plastic water tank is going to be right against my home so the rain water will empty into it, the tank is not as large as you might think. My place is a bit larger than a 1/5 its closer to a 1/4. It comes down to being a good neighbor and good cleaning management. I have cats so no rodent problem, I keep the grain in barrels. My yard on all sides is well kept a nice flower garden in front, most place up here are dirt. Oh plus I get vegetables from my mom and pops veg market that they would throw away other wise for free. Hope that helps.

and the funny thing is that the goats do more good for the planet than any msnbc host could ever dream of…. they mow the grass, fertalize the lot, provide milk and dairy goods, can be used for meat… msnbc hosts are lying snakes

I was raised on a ranch so seeing animals born is nothing new but it is so awesome to see a new life come into this world!

Yeah, me too. I keep watching their tails, when they start to arch higher sometimes that’s a sign also. On backyardsherds.com, two weeks back there was a goat cam and 5-6 does kidded, one was scary touch and go but the owner saved the kid. It is an education if your thinking of getting a couple of goats.

Where do you get 1 in 10?  10 in over 35 years of raising goats, so that’s 1 every 3-1/2 years.  We’ve ranged from 5 goats to 60 at time.  So if average was 20 goats, then say 14 of them kid each year averaging 2 kids that takes it to 1 in 98.

They look pretty lazy right now — but I suppose I would be too if I were in an advanced stage of pregnancy.

They can get out during the day into the pen, they are in there at night so they don’t have their kids out in the cold and rain.  They would be sleeping now  but there is a light on so frank can keep an eye on them and for heat, so they’re up. Once the kids are born and older they will be out most of the time.

When they start to go into labor, you will see their tails go up as they have a contraction, the tail goes up and back down when it stops.  You will see her push and the tail will stay up or off to the side. Usually just before they go into labor they get restless. 

Horses usually wait until after midnight to 3am when they are all alone and its dark. The camera is a great idea, but I don’t know about the light. !

Yeah, too bad it isn’t an IR camera so they would be in the dark but they could keep an eye on them and us too.

Who would have thought GoatCam would be so addictive. I have been checking it throughout the day.

I usually keep a lamp on for my girls if the weather is cold.  It provides warmth for them to help them relax and heat for the babies after they are born.

Something in the barn thumped a few minutes ago and got Pepper on the alert.  Elle just keeps chewing her cud and occasionally wagging her tail, but doesn’t seem to be in labor.  She may be getting close though.  Tail wagging is one of the signs.

Well, I have been watching off and on for more than two days now . . . must be a sign that I am lacking any real excitement in my life – HA . . . and we still don’t have babies!!!  One thing is for sure, NONE of us would make good doctors because apparently those two girls are not listening to what we think!!!

Just love watching those babies!  Don’t you just wonder how they can jump so far so fast???  They are all practicing their head butts . . . must be honing their skills for the “real thing” down the road!

My daughter and my grand daughters started watching once I did.  Now we IM each other all day to see if either has seen lately, or to give updates.   My grand daughter’s goats are also expecting so she is very excited to see these born.   I am just plain excited.  I thought tonight was for sure for a while, but nope not yet, and i really must go to bed soon.  I do hope to see the actual birth of at least one of them.  I think it actually says something  about humanity that so many people are waiting for the birth of these little goats and pulling (or pushing) for the mamas!  And yes, thanks for this cam and for the show!!!!!!!!!

Hey girls there are nearly 400 people, right at this minute, watching you and waiting for the arrival of your new babies!   Do you suppose that that is a record???  All good things in their own time, right?  I have to say that patience is NOT one of my virtues, but the Good Lord is sure making sure that I have gotten good dose of practice in the past three days!!   But I’ll wait . . . . just thinking about the bouncy babies makes me want to go out and buy some pigmy goats to keep in my backyard!!!!!

Elle needs a human sitter as her time approaches, and especially during the birth. The sitter should be someone that Elle knows. And, goats often need help during a first delivery. 

Two short visits a day is insufficient. Pepper would also appreciate a sitter, but her need is not great because it is not a first time experience for her.

Pepper is not packing in the hay as she usually dose.

They are probably watching the cam like we are!!!

I can’t believe it’s 10:30 at night and I’m watching goats eat and pee. This is a serious “get a life” crisis.

Why are they eating the hay on the floor instead of the fresh stuff??

I have seen Frank in there more than just the two times listed above. It does seem like she should have some one there for the birth.

 Maybe it is easier to bend down than to stretch up.  These girls are just tired of being pregnant and are confused about WHERE they should eat their hay!  in fact goats eat just about anything so suppose the hay on the ground is just as good to them as the hay in the holder.

Yup, I’ve been getting it since this morning.

I’m able to see it on Ustream (go there and search independenceusa), but not on here.  The slope of Elle’s tail head and other indicators make it appear imminent for her to be in labor!

Other signs labor that may be starting: Mucus, Looking back at flank area (a lot) sometimes with licking/scratching, Lying down and getting up (a lot) sometimes with hind leg stretched out.

Awww, they’re snuggled up together. I haven’t seen them like that before.

From birth to the Frying Pan

Elle doesn’t seem to want Pepper to eat. Keeps pushing Pepper from food.

This is driving me nuts I have tried everything to get the goat cam to load all day here, never had this happen before been having to watch it on ustream.

Some close friends had a foal this morning by our black overo paint stallion MDP Maxwell Smart. She will be gun-metal gray in color like her dam. The foal has nursed, pooped and nursed again. So far, so good. The filly has a cute head, well laid back shoulder, big hip, and a short back. Her conformation is awesome.

Where are the ladies?   Is something going on?

Elle is pretty restless and crabby tonight; just like my goat Alabu when she is close to kidding. I didn’t have a cam last time – I  was worried about her so I spent the night in the barn with her; bad idea. But she had 3 beautiful boys

C’mon Ladies!!  I check 3x a day and assume I will miss the blessed event.  Such an endearing cam site.

I was watching and checking in on Elle and Pepper last night.  But this morning when I went to check in on them, all I get is a completely black screen.  I’ve been checking on and off all day and it has remained a black screen.  Does anyone know what is going on?  Did they get bad storms in their area and knocked the power out???

I haven’t had any problems, once today it went black and couldn’t get a screen but I rebooted my computer and it came right back, don’t know how that could have had anything to do with it, but it has been fine since. My computer stays on day and night. It is 1:20 AM and they haven’t had theirs kids yet and both are resting and sleeping right now.

Rebooting isn’t going to do it for me.  Just rebooted and I still have the black screen.        In another lifetime, I raised lots and lots of sheep.  Just loved to watch the lambs run and play … almost like they had little springs in their butts.  And kids do the same thing.    Well … hopefully whatever is wrong will fix itself by morning.    Thanks for answering me.

Well, I was sure I would wake up this morning to babies! Poor Elle doesn’t know what she is in for yet, but Pepper knows! Perhaps today is the day…………

I was HOPING  but it appears they are just going to take their own sweet time!!!  Well, I have a lot of time to just keep watching!

Don’t you find it amazing how many people are checking in on this wonder of nature?  God truly works in mysterious ways . . . . what a awesome way to remind us that no matter how tough it gets, good things will still happen. It is humbling to KNOW that he is watching over us . . . ALL of us!!!!

I’m on kid watch!!! how exciting…..this is more fun than watching fox news.

Oh gosh, I had just about worn out the refresh!  And I had rebooted several times.  Nothing worked.  So that’s when I went to ustream and finally found it there.  I emailed the ustream link to several of my friends who couldn’t get anything but a black screen here.  Now this morning, I come here and right away ….. I have Elle & Pepper!

I think Elle is in labor. Her tail is arched and she has a hump in her back. Those are labor signs. 

Perhaps someone should tell Elle that she isn’t supposed to eat just before giving birth or it will make her sicker than a dog . . . or maybe it would be a goat in this case!  If she is in labor, it sure hasn’t effected her appetite much!  Those babies will be born half grown at the rate she is chowing down!

Pawing at the ground is a good indicator.  Looks like Elle is nearly there!

Elle is funny, she doesn’t want Pepper to eat and herds her away from the food, but she wants to nap on her!!!

I am beginning to think they aren’t really pregnant. LOL! Maybe they are just fat!

I think something is going on w/Pepper. She is awfully still and quiet today.

Did you change your camera settings? The video stream will freeze periodically for 15 to 20 seconds. It has not done this until today. I’ve been watching and waiting for over a week. I surely don’t want to miss anything now.

Just got home from work around 5pm and the girls have been chowing down big time the last half hour or so.
 

Earlier today? someone wrote that there was a couple of men working on the cameras.  not sure if that’s whats affecting the feed.

 Yes, twice today there was a technician working on the camera, I haven’t had any problem except for a couple of minutes yesterday.

Thank u chyna2 It made me think the cam wasn’t recording “real” time. I wrote earlier that they’d been eating a half an hour.  Strange. I thought someone claimed they eat more. Heck I don’t know. 

Pepper’s udder is full, won’t be long now

 I have no idea about their eating habits and what they mean, somebody earlier posted that their doe stopped eating before they gave birth, guess they all are different! It is killing me to wait, not good at waiting, LOL

Elle is laying down in front of the food and not moving. Pepper is just eating over her, and has hay shreds all over Elle, and Elle isn’t doing a thing.  Poor little girl has no energy to make Pepper move anymore.  Thinking it must be getting close!  That or she is just worn out at this point carrying her babies around.  Or it is just my wishful thinking that it will be tonight!  Most likely as soon as I give up and go to sleep!!!!!!  But Elle sure isn’t acting like her normal self!

Elle is not producing milk yet. I think she has twins so she would be extra tired!!

I had a camera in Steppin On Gold’s stall when he was expected. It worked just as well at night with no lights on. At night I would watch the monitor and I could see everything.

No babies I see. Ladies, I remember how it felt to be big, miserable, and pregnant.

Frank, if you knew when the buck was put in the field with the does, you must have a pretty close date if gestation is 150 days, unless they were with the buck for a month then only the good Lord knows.

Grew up in rural area on farm, raised my kids on 40 A. hobby farm. My job was to watch which cows were in heat and put them in barn for the bull or later we had artificial insemination. I’d say the only one who will get pregnent was going to be me. hehheh Helped deliver the calves and also a  pet pig who had 13 little ones. She needed the comfort of someone around and some help getting started with the first one. Then she did the rest on her own. If they know you and you have bonded with them, just you being there and your voice seemed to relax the cows and the pig. Pigs are cleaner, they don’t poop and sleep in it like pepper was going to do. They use only one corner of the pen for their bathroom.  Never in sleeping area. They had more room to roam than the goats have. Have really enjoyed this. Bringing back my childhood. Thanks for giving us this wonderful cam. God is Great!

Everytime either of them raise their tails to pee or poop I get so excited and think, “THIS IS IT”, only to be disappointed yet again. I need sleep!!

Ms. Pepper must have her own food at the end we can’t see.  We have been thinking that Elle was not letting her eat, but just maybe it is Ms. Pepper who has been trying to get all the food!  I am quite sure if Pepper didn’t have food, she would be over there nudging Elle out of the way to get her “fair share” . . . . wonder where I have heard THAT expression before? Hmmmmmmm . . . .

This is too hard too watch. Someone needs to step in. Pepper should stop trying to get food and go lay down in the corner. Then the left should step in and make sure she gets her fair share.  Then Pepper should hate Elle for being rich.

At least the goats provide usable fertilizer for the garden. MSNBC pollutes the planet with the droppings of Baal flowing freely from their minds.

 It’s a bit like waiting for your grandchildren to come along. You don’t have to do the labor part, but the stress is still there. I want to get up in the night and check on them! One thing about it, these goats have a bigger cheering squad than any other goats I know!

I see Pepper is restless…about to go into labor?

 I hope they both have the same number of kids, so there won’t be any fights over who got more than the other, and unfair treatment because one has to nurse more than the other. Maybe Elle will go off to work and let Pepper take care of all the babies. Elle can earn their keep while Pepper stays home and does the housework. Would this qualify as having two mommies?!

That guy’s been there twice in the last hour…and he’s loved on Elle quite a few times.  But Pepper has been completely ignored, except for when one of the guys talked about how sunken in she is around her hips!  I feel sorry for her!

She’s gaunt because Elle won’t let her get enough to eat.
 

Pepper is usually the one who gets more attention, because she’s been more affectionate I think. I think she’s hanging back more today.

Also, the difference in her hip area is supposed to signal that she’s getting close to having her kids.

Not to worry ….. both of these girls are getting enough to eat.   The gauntness they are talking about would most likely be due to the fact that she is dropping … which means that the babies are dropping to get in line in the birth canal. ))

Pepper has been spending a lot of time at the other end of the stall. I hope she doesn’t have those babies under the camera where we can’t see. Maybe they would adjust the camera.

 Yeah I am worried that they will have the kids out of range of camera after waiting all this time to see the births!

yes, I have seen Pepper staring at the camera too. I think she is plotting to have them out of camera view. Just like a goat!

As a rule they quit eating for a while before they give birth.  So I doubt it is going to be right away.  They are both still eating.

 False alarm I guess, she is moving now, but not very much!

I keep it open in a seperate tag.  I have the Decora eagle cam on the other tag and keep switching back and forth.

Well, if you didn’t hear Frank, there’s been no change at all in the past couple of days for either of them. And now they’re standing there eating like pigs, I’m going to give it a rest for a few hours – he said it could be another day or two.

If the goats are registered they have to have a herd name…so if the herd name is  MOON BEAM LA MANCHA GOATS, the goats will have to have something to do with the moon; moon glow, moon dust, Apollo, (after the Apollo mission to the moon) and so on. They can still have pet names though. Don’t know if Frank has a herd name.

I can’t believe I am sitting here, glued to my computer to watch two goats in their stall! I have been here all evening and probably will be till bedtime. I am easily entertained!

I haven’t had a chance to read all the comments, so maybe I am duplicating.  I would NOT put Elle in with Pepper and babies.  Elle COULD butt the heck out of them.  OR, the kids may start sucking on Elle, and she may let them since she is so close herself.  This is not good.  The babies need that colostrum for several reasons.

And those navels need to be dipped in strong iodine ALREADY to keep any bacteria from traveling up those navels.

In another lifetime, I was a sheep producer … lambed out 135 to 185 ewes every winter for ten years.   New mamas and babies need to be confined to a small area so they learn who mama is and Pepper knows who her babies are.

I can’t bear to watch this any more!  I don’t know anything about baby goats but I do think something should be done to ensure these babies safety!

Pulling is the LAST option and only if babe is stuck, this one wasn’t stuck, Pepper was just taking time, babe will be ok in a day or two.  Have had many born with legs not working right at first.  

The hind leg of the third baby, might be hip dysplasia or just a hip weakness. Good work everyone.  Even Frank.  It’s all a learning process. I was even pushing for Pepper. heheh

Well that was absolutely amazing. All the babies are adorable. And Pepper did a great job! Whatever you end up naming them Frank, I’m sure it will be perfect!

For all of the lambs during that ten year time ….. I used a wide mouth beer bottle with the strong iodine in it.  Dipped the navel in the bottle and leaned the lamb back against me.  That way, the whole navel got coated.  The strong iodine helps dry that cord, too.

Frank, IODINE them.  They are not in the wild.  They could get infection from the bedding, pee, poop,etc. Once they get infection it’s could be too late.

I just don’t agree with all the excess human interference that’s all.  I don’t CAE test or give shots either.  I do use wormer and medicines if they get sick.

The one with the bad leg can’t get in there to eat.

If she isn’t up and around tomorrow then I would definitely recommend bottle feeding.

I think that we all need to remember that Frank is trying to intervene as little as possible. Sometimes nature is cruel.

At least help it to nurse a few times before within a couple hours & warmed.  It may seem warm but the damp weather stiil makes them feel chilly.

if you are trying to be self sufficient you do not let you valuable live stock come to harm…I am also working on self sufficiency, you could need that goat down the road.

This is hardly a case of being left to fend for itself. It has nursed several times. Pepper is keeping an eye on her.
 

I wasn’t either., I was actually born dead but my dad worked on me for close to twenty minutes before I took my first breath.

With my sheep, I always milked the ewe into a baby bottle … sometimes stripped them.  Each lamb got 2 or 3 ounces of colostrum.  That way, I KNEW that the lamb had gotten colostrum in its belly.  If it was too weak or stubborn to drink from the bottle, I tubed it.   I made sure that they got the all important colostrum.  The rest was frozen for the next baby/babies who mother didn’t have milk.    Colostrum is colostrum for roughly 24 hours. 

I always dipped the cord with the strong iodine.

I have been watching almost constantly and I have never seen her nurse.

Boy there will be some calls going into the Beck show if they let this kid die.

Well, I’m sorry but you haven’t been paying attention. She was the first kid to nurse. And she has caught up with Pepper several times since then.

Pepper is a very good mother.

I’ve only watched every once in awhile and I’ve seen her nurse 2 or 3 times.

Do you guys really think Frank isn’t watching every minute of this from the house? He said he would be back in about an hour.
 

Well, now it’s been about an hour since…

I have also seen her nurse. And Pepper has fussed over her and even favored her a couple of times. I will be glad to see Frank, though.

EXACTLY!  I’ve only watched every once in a while and I saw her nurse 2 or 3 times!  She just needed some time to recuperate from being born.

To set aside the fears of those who are afraid that the goats won’t get any sleep with the lights on ….. Pepper is used to the light, just as my sheep were used to having light all the time.  I checked the drop area every couple hours and needed to be able to see when I walked in amongst all those ewes, to see if there was anyone lambing or had lambed and I needed to get the lamb and ewe jugged ….. or if I needed to pull a lamb/lambs.

So did the girls have their kids yet? I have been gone all day. This was the first time I got to check in. Someone fill me in on what’s been going on, Please?

I don’t know what the temp is there in PA, but once the babies are dried off and are taking in colostrum, heat lamps are usually better at burning the barn down than anything else. :-/
I never used any heat lamps here in Iowa.

The horse was put out for the night, when they discovered Pepper was in labor.  Ellie was brought in when the babies were less than an hour old, she freaked.  They put her back in the horses stall for the night.

Oh, my, that doesn’t bode well for her impending motherhood.  Maybe she’ll be better with her own kids.

No worries she’ll be fine.  

I had to leave for a bit. What happened with the last kid with the injured leg???? They’re all under the blind spot of the camera.

How active were you are a few hours old?  LOL!!  She really is fine.  Just a few minutes ago she was up and walking around and nursing.  She just had the hardest time with delivery being the biggest and probably was a bit twisted and squished inside.  She got colostrum in her by morning she’ll be bouncing around.

A Little tired at one hour but at 2 hr a hand full, by tomorrow they’ll be bouncing off the walls…at least 2 of them will.

Pepper has been nudging #3 to try to get her up to nurse.  That right rear leg is not right.  It sticks out at a very unnatural angle, whether #3 is trying to get up or laying down.

Yeah the leg is messed up, but I feel better now that I see her and pepper is attentive. I would think the leg is fixable.

The one looks like she has a dislocated hip or something.  How long ago were they born?  I checked earlier but nothing was going on so missed the birth of the babies.

Yes!  Just above the hock.  It was laid on at least twice (one time when they out of view).  I recognized the “distress” cry. If it’s not greatly improved by tomorrow, I would suggest Frank take a toilet paper tube, cut straight down length of the tube then tape it around the lower halve of it’s leg. For a few days.

That’s fixable.  My sister had a Boer kid with very severe spraddle legs. They put hobbles on her and she is perfectly normal now.

Yes, I would think that it is fixable, but the sooner they get at it, the better.  Hopefully those legs can be fixed in order to bear her weight as she grows.

They should improve very quickly as she seems to have spunk and Pepper is very attentive. They need to make sure she gets plenty of nurishment though.

I hope Pepper lays down soon so that  #3 can eat for a while. She is going to get weak if she doesn’t eat and eat enough. She may have gotten a little. But, I have not see it. I have been watching for 4 hours now. #3 can stand up but not walk. The others are starting to knock her down too.

After they kid the momma has lost a lot of body heat and also it helps replenish their electrolytes and mineral balance. Plus the mommas usually love it

I don’t know anything about goats..except that they’re very cute…so I was surprised to see Pepper laying in a corner and the babies all spread out very far apart laying against the walls. I just assumed that they would be like puppies and all be piled up on top of each other sleeping or cuddled up with Pepper sleeping or eating. These little girls seem to be quite independent…is this a common trait with goats or did I just happen to catch them “in a moment”? They’ve been in the same spots for awhile so I was just wondering….I love the sweet little sounds that the babies make…My heart melts just a little every time I hear one of them….

To start on the bottle:  take your thumb and index finger from underneath her jaw and squeese in at the back of her mouth then put the bottle in her mouth.  Mothers colostrum is best.

THAT’S JUST BS, FRANK… LET NATURE TAKE IT’S COURSE.. GET THAT BABY SOME HELP, AT LEAST HAVE IT CHECKED OUT BY A VET.  I’M SURE GLENN WILL SPRING FOR THE BILL.

Wondering what can be done to help the third one?

Stabilize the leg.  I explained that last night.  Use a toilet paper tube just above the pastern. slip an old sock over it, then hold with with tape around the top. After a couple days it will be fine. She has been nursing when she gets in position and is quite strong.  Just HOLD her under Pepper’s belly a few times.

Pepper’s making more milk for her babies.

I am wondering why they aren’t doing anything?……that was all. If its an easy fix why not help

Perhaps he isn’t reading the right posts.  Franks doesn’t know most of us from Adam.  I had raised goats for close to 40 years.  I have raised well over 1000 kids during that time. And showed for many of those years. My father made goat cheese and had many customers from the US and Europe.  He had a dairy of 120 milkers.

I’m totally in love with all the babies…every time they wiggle those little tails and let out a sound it makes me smile..but the one with the big ears has simply stolen my heart! How stinkin’ cute is she? Hope the little one with the leg issue is gonna be ok…She keeps me checking back more often than I should. I’m worried for the little thing.

Oh me too!!!!!!  I have so much to do, but just cannot help but watch them.  My grand daughter has goats and one is going to kid in a week or two.  I am now so anxious, because I want to hold all of these little girls.  

I think Elle’s mothering instincts are kicking in big time.  She is not going to let our little curious one out that door!!!!!!!!!  LOL  

I am in the process of packing my house to move.  I just love listening to the little ones while I pack.  Better than anything in the world to hear.   And then every once in a while (too often probably) I look up or sit down and just watch.   Can’t help it.  I would really like to thank Frank and his family for allowing all of us to share in this incredible experience!

Ladies, I think the mothering instinct got to all this last 12 hours. I was even telling Pepper to push!! My children were 4-Hers. Son raiesed a sow that had 13-one didn’t make it. One day the sow and 12 babies came out of the barn. Her pen was made of 2x4s. We figured one little one got out and could not get back in, so she came to it. Splintered those boards like they weren’t even there. I still see it after all these years. They were good years. We raised our own beef, pigs,chickens and a 4-H garden. One daughter has to 4-H cows she raised and showed at the fair, other son had “hairy-legs” the chicken and other daughter did baking and garden entries. KIds weren’t too helpful when it came to butcher the chickens. That was my duty. I can still see a meal we had with fresh fried chicken, sweet corn and tomatoes from the garden. All things we raised and took care of. It is a beautiful life. They learned much about caring,breeding of animals, and respoonsiblity. I could go on for hours about experiences (good and bad ie loosing some animals) we all had together over the years. Thank you Frank for sharing with us and Glen for letting me know of this site. I hear geese outside. We raised Toulous ones.

I am still so worried about #3.  I don’t understand why it is not being attended to and have a vet see it.   If something isn’t done soon, it will be too late, I am afraid.  I wonder if it is getting enough nourishment  because it can’t really stand and nurse.  I wish Frank would listen to Glenda.  She seems to know a lot  about goats. 
 If the worst happens, we are going to need to be able to depend on each other, even for knowledge of how to do certain things.  This is one way we can help each other. Frank, listen to Glenda!  Save the kid.  Pepper is a great mother!

hcppam ….. Not too long ago, there were a bunch of people, including Frank (Ithink) who were in there looking at the goats.  The man did take #3 and get down and hold her up to Pepper.  I did hear someone of the women say that they COULD bottle feed #3.

“Let Nature take its course” is not even for the wild born animals.  I know of many wildlife rehabbers who go the extra mile each and every day to try to save an animal.

I’m not going to be able to stay here all the time today, but will be checking in every now and then.

Glad to read Glenda’s post that #3 is getting food… I was worried about her, still am.  I wish they’d have her looked at by someone.   But I think when she moves, she’s been moving a lot better.

If Frank reads these comments, please check with your vet for the little one having trouble with his back legs.  When I was in 4H I raised sheep.  One year my old ewe had twins and one had the same weak back legs at birth.  The vet had me feed him on a bottle for a few weeks supplementing his vitamin intake.  Within a week or two he was strong and healthy. 

I’m thinking maybr since it was last to be born it had to work harder to get out and was just very tired…

 I was worried last night, but I’ve watched all three and they all are wobbly.  Our last born “Girl” isn’t dragging her right hind leg anymore. and I think I saw her do a hop. funny

Just for those who are curious, I have been watching the babies for the past couple of hours off and on, and I have witnessed all three of them suckle.  One little guy has more trouble getting around than the other two, but practice obviously makes perfect and is doing better every time he/she tries!

I’m still concerned about the one they call #3…even though she has nursed today, she is not nearly as active as the other two.

Couldn’t get back before now because the weather kept me from the Internet. It is SO good to see # 3 still with us. She’s still in the corner, but she’s here! She wasn’t suckling much last night, and she was alone (away from Mama and sisters) when I fell asleep! And now it looks as if Elle is going to be a Mama soon!

Possibility of white muscle disease … lack of selenium in diet.  Even back in the 80′s much of the selenium was depleted from the soil.  It doesn’t get in to the hay.  It doesn’t get in to the corn. 
This is something that really should be checked out.  It just came to me today … trying to remember back to those times!

Earlier today number 1 kept trying to get out the door and Elle stopped her.  But eventually she made it out, and Pepper was not real happy!  She stood at the door looking at her baby outside and the two inside not sure what to do.  Finally the little one came toddling back in.  The floppy ear one has nuzzle with Elle and it was sweet.  Elle did not even budge except to look at her.  She, the new one keep looking at her rear end and making noises and kept like trying to climb on Elle.  I think she wants her cousins to come out to play!!!!!  Every once in a while Pepper will take a look at Elle’s rear end too.  i think Pepper will be very motherly with Elle’s babies too.  It is all just so very very sweet.  I have seen #3 up, still wobbly, but is doing much better, and i think she was the first one to suckle.  She does not as much as the others, but I do think she is going to be fine.  So many praying for  a tiny goat.  Surely God will hear us and make her be strong and healthy!  I just have that feeling too, that Elle will be birthing soon!  

I liked the earlier idea of Faith, Hope, and Charity.   

My daughter thought they should name them: Emzara, Sarah, and Ziporah. Wife of Noah, Abraham, and Moses.  They could then call them Emmi, Sarah, and of course our little last one could be called Zippy for short! But then again, maybe our cute little floppy ear baby could be Zippy! LOL

I hope they give the 3rd born some special attention. He hasn’t ate and is just laying the corner. This morning he was at least able to stand up, but without food,  I guess we know what the outcome of that will be.

I wasn’t there when he first came in, but he mixed up some formula and tried giving her the bottle.  He wasn’t very successful, he couldn’t get her to take the nipple.  Sometimes you need to gently “force” the nipple into their mouth to get them started, The end of the bottle doesn’t look or feel like Mamma’s udder.  I wasn’t too concerned as she nursed all by herself for at least 2 minutes, when the other two were sleeping, around 4:00 this morning.  Frank is doing quite well…for a novice, just not in a timely manner.  When he says ” I’ll let nature take it’s course” he’s basicly saying “I’m not sure what to do next so I’ll check the books, posts/texts, or make a phone call”.  The “cam” is such a useful tool. He just needs to recognize what he’s “seeing” or “hearing”.  Watch/listen… the mother and kids are “talking” to each other. Soon you’ll learn what the different crys mean.  The “distress” cry is very distinctive.  Sort of like when a child gets hurt or is in distress..all the mothers near by come running to its’ aid.  I am concerned that Frank didn’t iodine the babies navels.  It only takes one time for a kid to get sick, to learn that an “ounce of prevention” would’ve helped.  DO THE IODINE!!!

Since it was the last one born, the other two were likely lying on top of her in the womb and she has/had a pinched nerve. You know what it’s like when your foot “falls asleep”. If you put your full weight on it, you fall an break your leg.

Really!  she should be okay. I’ve seen much worse.  Almost always recover in a few days if they don’t get laid on because they cann’t get out of the way fast enough.

The goats have just heard someone making noise in the feed room. . . #3 appears to be quite alert!!!  I am thinking that the little ones, right along with the mamas will get the once over! AND #3 is definitely up and moving!

Oh, I do see her standing. Maybe she is sucking now.  We are put in charge of taking care of what we are given. If we can help in anyway, that is what we are supposed to do.  Nature will take of nature, but when my dog was sick I took her to the vet. I expect you would too. Not expect that the dog would get its own shots, or go without them because of nature. If that were the case, we would have rabies running rapid and puppies being born every six months, etc. We are here to help nature when and where we can. 

Elle is super cranky tonight. She is probably wishing she was the one to give birth first!

Where is everyone?  Surely Frank is following these comments… he obviously has a smart phone… It’s supposed to snow at some point over the next several hours.

Because it is a good thing to provide for your family. Meat, plant life, sea creatures, etc. are all things that will sustain humanity. It may seem to be cruel to eat the animals  one raises, but it is within “the circle of life.”

Goats work on supply and demand.  

I think we would all be wise to remember that the Belcastro Family put up this webcam so that we could share in their joy. They do not need,( nor want, I’m sure), micro-managers of their life. Perhaps there is a very good reason why the barn door is still open, maybe not. But it is their business.

People eat both sexes.  Granted most will kill the males first because they aren’t necessary, but if there aren’t any males then you eat the young females.    

Since Frank is all about building a herd, on a cold windy March night with three new babies and a second pregnant doe, there can be no good reason for the barn door not to be closed and secured but carelessness.

I don’t have doors on my barn at all – they live in the outdoors they do adapt!   

I feel Adam just forgot. It doesn’t change the fact that this is an open post and that kids get chilled it’s not good. I think we just hope someone will see it and close it. The Family may be gone for the night?

Goats are hardy animals, serious this worry wartness is such a joke – not just you but others too.  

Mary, please read my post below.  Check out the website on 20 truths about goats.  This is normal and not a concern.  They are normally outside and in the weather…maybe lucky to have a lean to.  These animals are “livestock” not your usually dog and cat variety of animals.  Cows are the same way.  They are bred for the elements.  I have 3 pigs we got as babies.  They have a house to get in out of the weather, but they don’t have a door…but do have plenty of hay and each other. 

I very VERY seldom eat animal flesh and when I do it’s usually chicken.   I really don’t want to read about raising animals for food, thank you very much.  If these were my animals they would be providing milk and cheese, nothing more.

I do wonder if Elle will kid tonight?  They won’t want to keep them all confined for a long time, and she looks like she is ready.  She’s been really laying around again today.

I am sure these folks are watching this cam the same as us, and probably think we are all a bunch of nuts, with some of our comments. It might be, depending on whats up with Ellie, they may want to come and move everyone around afterwhile. I am sure this isn’t their first rodeo.

Been gone all day – what’s the status of number 3?

3 seems to be getting lots better… she was acting pretty sassy earlier, actually prancing and wagging her tail A LOT… she suckled several times too.

 Thanks, thought she just needed time to “unfold”; three kids had to be packed in there pretty tight.

The big topic now is that several of us are upset because the barn door has been left open and it’s getting colder and windy.

I’ve was just thinking that this thread was starting to sound a little like poultry, lol!

 Their goats, they will be ok. Pepper will ensure that. Someone will check on them soon.

It is unusual for Frank to leave the barn door open after dark. He usually closes it not long after he feeds them.  I hope they don’t get too cold.

Thank you so much for making this goat cam available. I have been down in the dumps for some time now, but watching the “life in the day of Pepper and Elle” has lifted me up while I’ve been watching them eat, pee, poop, chew their cud, and sleep. But last night was awesome!!! I feel so much better about life now! God bless you all for how you have touched my life (and I’d be willing to bet the others watching too)!!!

Goat meat is called chevon, but has little fat…a little beef tallow helps make it more moist.

I offered up three names referring to their white coloring: Snowflake, Lily and Blanche or Blanca.

Even my hubby, who never gets on a computer other than to play Spider, keeps coming by and watching the webcam to see the goats.  Been a fun experience.  Thinking of doing this with my chicks I plan to hatch this spring.

That’s why I asked. I suggested FAITH HOPE and CHARITY last night, as did others. I was thinking of Glenn when thinking of names. It seems the natural thing to do. But, they belong to Frank and family; so, they’ll name them what they want.

I have chickens (21 of them) and 3 hogs now, no longer pigs…would have a cow, but not enough room to raise one.  We raised hogs and chickens years ago, but only this last year got back into it, due the world situation.  We also have 2 turkeys…that’s a whole nuther ball game…turkeys I mean….  lol!  Can be fun though.  We have eggs enough for 15 people, AND enough to give away and to sell.  Even in the dead of winter. 

They could be eating dinner (supper). Just a thought…

When my folks lived in Texas, their neighbor had a herd of goats. The kids would climb the trees, tease the Turkeys, and all sorts of antics.  They are really quite hardy animals, from birth.

Disbudding – removing the horn buds at age 3 to 7 days old so they don’t grow horns.  It involves taking a hot iron and burning the horn bud off.

Shucks! I had a phone call and missed Frank! Would someone give me a synopsis of what he said/did?

I have been watching these two goats since late yesterday and saw there were 3 born from the black one.  Yes, the third one had a leg problem on balance but why didn’t Frank do something to help this baby.  When nature has a problem, that is what we are here for.  Did he call a vet for help?  I am sick bed and am living with my laptop pc.  wish they would remove the poor baby in the corner of the stall. There is no reason to let this scene continue………….it breaks your heart.

Thanks for keeping it real, Frank.  I think many of us viewers got carried away a bit … but I cannot believe someone did that.  To presume to interfere in your private affairs…especially with your generosity in sharing this with us…is way too far.  I don’t know who did it…but I am sorry it happened, and thank you for your patience.  I would have been a LOT less nice about it!

Baby is JUST FINE, did you NOT just listen to Frank???  He had a vet come out.  It’s definitely MORE than I would have done.  I’ve raised goats for 30+ years.  It is NOT uncommon whatsoever for goats to be born and have trouble walking.  BUT for 90% of them a day or two is all they need and then they “fix” themselves.  

 Would you PLEASE shut off your TV and go to bed.  Your kind of interference makes me want to throw up!!!!  If I were Frank I would shut off the webcam because of people like you!

Frank just informed us that someone actually had the audacity to call the cops because they were worried about the goats.  Not sure exactly what they were worried about but ALL the talk the last hour has been how horrible it is that the door was left open – RIDICULOUS!  

He said what he unfortunately needed to say…that things were getting a little out of hand here with the things being said.  He assured all the worry warts that nobody loves the goats more than him.  They were at Emma’s engagement party today.  They had a vet watching the goats while they were gone.  Everything has always been fine.  He said people here crossed a line today.  He asked to respect his privacy.  He likes sharing this with us and doesn’t want to take down the feed.  He didn’t appreciate the 911 call that was made, taking valuable time away from the dispatchers and the local emergency responders.  EVERYTHING IS AND ALWAYS HAS BEEN under control.

 Oh, please… those goats are getting better care than a lot of human kids! The baby with the leg problem is getting better…and will be fine, according to the vet that is following them.

Wow, this is the first I heard about someone “in this viewing audience” called 911 dispatch to Franks home….What in the world are you all thinking…this is best experience for MOST of us and you control freaks are trying to ruin it?   Go watch American idol or something and leave this cam alone.

Hope to continue watching until  the white goat has her first birthing.  Good visit with the owner just now.  You can tell he really cares for these goats.  I have raised both puppies as well as foals with my mare’s.  There is just nothing like having this wonderful animals.  Yes, they are part of a family.

Thanks for sharing Frank, I think people who have never dealt with farm animals react in a different way, similar to their pet house animals…you said it well, and we all want to thank you for doing this for all of us. Kinda like having our own goats but not having to do the work…ha…you sure are making us want to start rasing livestock again. Thank you

Thank you for telling us what Frank said. I left to go heat up my dinner and got back just in time to hear just a little bit.  I can’t believe that folks would call 911. Don’t they know that Frank knows what he is doing ?  Little #3 has shown a lot of improvement in her walking  and us “city” folk need to mind our own business.  He’s not going to neglect or let any of those babies suffer.  I totally agree with you AKSandi…”.everything is and has been under control”. Calm down folks and quit being such worry warts. Instead, enjoy watching.

Wow, I wouldn’t blame them for shutting this camera down after that. That is unbelieveable that someone would do that. Folks, just watch, and then mind your own business. 

I have been on this site off and on all day today.  I have read many of the obnoxious comments made by those who don’t know squat, those who are sticking their noses in where they don’t belong, and obviously, most of them don’t know ANYTHING about animals giving birth.  Goats, horses, cows, sheep, etc. are all OUTDOOR animals and give birth OUTSIDE most of the time!!!! These two mamas would give birth OUTSIDE if required and the babies would surely thrive – rain, shine, sleet, hail or snow!!!!

Do you think, for even a single second, that Frank or his family would have set up a webcam so we could watch if they were going to neglect their goats?  Apparently a number of folks must think so . . . they just criticize to their hearts’ content.  SHAME on whoever made that phone call  . . . . WHAT were you thinking? Whoever you are, after all the ruckus you caused, let’s see if you have the guts to “fess up” and take the heat for it! Frankly, it was NONE of your business!

It’s a liberal  bleeding heart thing!   I would never like seeing something suffer but sometimes
mother nature knows what she doing and I am so glad # 3 up and about. 

I am sure the 911 callers are well meaning.

Frank, I am truly sorry that caring, yet uninformed viewers felt the need to get your local law enforcement involved in a situation that you have dealt with/are dealing with more than adequately. It is evident when you are with the “girls” that you love them. You are doing a great job, and it breaks my heart that you and your family were hurt because of someone’s ignorance of agriculture.

Please, everyone, let’s not go to the place of name calling. These precious new lives should be what we focus on. I am so glad we have this goat cam to remind us that “we are in this thing together.” 

On a lighter note, don’t you think Ellie is way bigger than Pepper was?
 

I feel terrible now …I heard Frank on his Cell Phone outside the door …I knew he was there and that’s why the door was open…I should have said something before.I assumed the person posting with concern was going to catch on. I was wrong.   

I listened in shock as you explained what had happened, Frank.  I am so sorry for you and your family.  As you sat and went through Pepper’s labor and delivery last night it was clear that you loved her and all the little ones.  And you will be there by Elle’s side when her time comes too. The worst thing that you could have done was panic.  I love this cam, and I am so in love with your little girls.  And you are right, it brought an entire group of people together that are all talking of praying for goats!  And to me that is pretty special that there were that many tuned in and joining in on prayers for these totally innocent adorable little ones.  We do appreciate all you are doing, and what you are granting us the permission to participate in!  Thank you.

The goats, their owners and the well-meaning viewers are wonderful.  Taking ownership of the goats and looking out for them when, clearly, there was no danger was going too far.  The person or persons who wasted the valuable resources of the fire department, police department and 9-1-1 services should be schooled in what constitutes an actual “emergency.”  Shameful. . .

Sorry to upset you. I have been bed ridden and watched continously as I am very ill. I have raised and birthed horse’s and dogs over many years. With these you usually watch a lot and don’t interfer. I just thought what I was watching was possible what I have had in puppies as a runt of a litter. Guess Goats don’t react to their babies the same. Just my experience.

I was away since about 3 pm EDT and I have come back to see that some PC liberal busybody has stuck their big brother nose in Frank’s business. I’m sure that whatever punishment we could dole out would not change an idiot like that. THere is a bigger problem is the US today and it started with liberalism and the big govt nanny state ideology perpetrated by the “Progressives”. How do I make such a leap you ask? Stop and review the facts and statements and actions by your govt, especially over the last 3 years. Teach your children well because ratting on your family, friend or neighbor is what the public schools are teaching them.

NO its been off since the first BAD comment that was made after Frank left….

Can’t say as I blame them . . . who needs this kind of aggravation???  Instead of TRUSTING Frank and his family to take care of their mamas and the babies, they had to put in their two cents worth about what Frank “SHOULD” be doing. 

I just hope they haven’t shut it off for good.  I am watching this with my grandkids via long distance, and we have been having a great time watching the babies.  It is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the three of us!  They may outgrow the fun of watching this kind of thing with Grandma one of these days!

Frank, thanks to you and your family for allowing us to share the wonder of God’s goodness.  What a humbling experience . . . again thank you.

Last nite I posted with some trepitation that #3 could have hip dysplasia or weak hip. Unfortunately I did not complete my post and explain why.  #3 was packed in Mom with 2 other laying probably on her. She was being squished. heheh Ever have an arm or leg go to sleep really hard. That is probably what happened and it took some time and moving around to get things back to normal. They are like human in some sense. There are nerves and muscles that need to wake up and it just took her a little longer.  It was hard to watch at first but one has to consider many things. I came from a farm and raised all kinds of animals with my kids. We had more successes that failures, but the love and caring we give them and they give us makes upfor any losses. Frank and his family are doing just fine. Sorry I didn’t make myself clearer at the beginning. I’m a retired RN and have experienced many things in workplace and on our farm. I even taught the kids how to give shots to their animals–good stuff with the bad.
Thank you Frank for letting me explain my remark–just hope it didn’t cause any problems. I was not on during the day to hear how some got a little excited.  KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK

The white goat and her birthing will be fun to watch. As I am bed ridden and ill I will continue to enjoy and learn more about goats. I have only raised puppies and horse’s and we as owners have to respond differently. I can also assure you that I won’t be watching American Idol. It has gone down hill over the last couple of years since Simon left.

I agree Cindy and we should all learn a lesson from it. Who and what encourages people to stick their noses into other people’s business? Tell them what kind of health insurance coverage they should have, etc…It’s time to take back america and bring back the wholesome rich and free country that I remember as a youth. I WAS A FARMER AND RAISED KIDS, PIGS AND CHICKENS AS WELL AS ACRES OF PRODUCE.

Speculation on medical conditions from a webcam is not good medicine and I think you know that.

I sooo agree with you Just can not believe that this happened HERE…I too have raised MANY of animals and could not believe the way people were acting and calling 911 is just insane but we have a LOT of nut jobs these days… we def need to fight to keep our Freedoms this has kinda proved that you cant even raise Goats without someone all up in your business telling you how to breathe and when…UNBELIEVABLE…..

Honestly I don’t think Frank shut it down.  How else is he going to be able to keep a watch on Elle tonight?  He has to sleep sometime so he might have friends and family members keeping watch on the goat cam to contact him if/when Elle goes into labor.  We can assume a lot of things but really I don’t think that he shut it down.  I could be wrong but it wouldn’t make sense until after Elle has her baby(s).

I’m heart broken that I missed the birth of the triplets and that people ruined this precious experience for the rest of us. Frank and his family were so generous and kind to let us into their wonderful world, I can only hope they know that the majority of us were thrilled with what they showed us. (P.S. didn’t you just love the way Ellie would try and look through the cracks between wall boards when something noisy was happening in the barn?!)

It’s so sad that self-righteous, self-proclaimed experts and do-gooders can ruin the enjoyment of others.  Over the last 24 hours, I’ve been shocked at the number of critical posts about what was supposed to be a joyous experience.  Frank, if you’ve shut it down for good, no one would blame you, no one should have to constantly read all the crap.  But what you’ve brought to so many people’s lives has been amazing, and I sure hope you change your mind.  I think there’s an old saying with a new twist these days, “Those who can do.  Those who can’t criticize.”  Either way, keep your head up.  You’re doing a fantastic job!

trust me as a former farmer, farmers know what to do. Sometimes time will help the little ones get stronger, just as we have observed! not any different than a human baby learing to walk!thank you Frank and family!

It may be UStream, I tried to play some of the recorded stuff from earlier on the goat cam and it isn’t playing either. 

I had so hoped to see Elle give birth.  I think you can see by the majority of the posts that so many lives were touched greatly by this.  Last night when I knew Pepper was in labor I called my daughter, and they got on the cam and we talked via speaker phone until all the babies were born.  We were all touched and so excited.  My oldest grand daughter, 7, has three goats of her own, and has become our resident expert.  She has viewed many videos on goat births, and has read many books and magazines.  But this cam gave her so much more spirit and even got her younger sister in on the act (4).  Today she insisted that she and her dad fix up their shed better, more like yours, Frank.  I got pictures and videos all day with them working on it.  Their one lady goat will give birth and a couple weeks.  Your cam taught them so much. I cannot wait to get back up north so I can hold a little baby goat in my own arms.  The adults are fun, and love them, but any new life is so precious.  We all felt like family.  We all love this little family so much.  Please, please keep it going.  Just even watching you with them brought a happiness to so many of us.  And for most, we knew early this morning that #3 was fine.  We saw her standing, and walking and nursing.  I went to bed late and got up very early.  The first thing I looked for were the goats.  As I worked around the house I worked to the sweet sounds of those little baby voices, and it kept me smiling all day.  Yes, many were worried, I am sorry that it got out of hand.  And for the life of me I really don’t know why anyone would have called that in.   We all apologize for that happening.  I do hope you read these, Frank.  We all love all of you!!!!!

“DITTO”  That’s what I’ve been telling the “goat watchers”.  The main thing to do is watch that they don’t get laid because they sometimes cann’t move fast enough to get out of the way.  Also,  “make sure” they get plenty of nurishment as they tend to get knocked around a lot trying to find momma’s milk machine, and sometimes they tend to get tired & give up, until everyone else is asleep. That’s what #3 did last night around 4:00…she drank for a good 2 minutes.
 

Hope that the next birthing goes well and maybe we’ll all be able to watch.  I have used camera’s on my mare’s when it was close to foaling but kept waking up most of the night thatmy mare was due.  Found out a classmate of my daughter had a farm and raised prize goats.   Small world.

Thank you Janice for such a wonder positive post.  I got pretty tired of the ones critizing with they didn’t do research into the animals.  I learned a lot just by researching a little.

yep, that is about when I got up and watched her up and nursing!  

I stop for dinner and return to find that all hell has broken loose. I tried earlier to tone down the negatives (must have been too subtle) but I never dreamed someone would do something as outrageous as calling the police. I’m furious – it was unforgivable! Remember, Frank, no good deed goes unpunished.

I can’t believe the size of Elle does anyone have any idea how many she is carrying.Poor Elle looks soooo uncomfortable. Lol … We will all be going ooh ooh aahh when its over. Thank you Frank for sharing ..

The person that called the police on the other site did not to it to cause problems. She truly was worried about the goats. She may have stepped over the line but she doesn’t deserve all the bad mouthing.  She feels bad enough.  Frank said his peace she heard it that is enough.  Be a good Christian and for give.  Frank said he would leave the feed up. From time to time it will still have problems.

Oh my! Elle looks like she’s about to POP! I remember how miserable I felt the last few weeks of my pregnancy! Did Frank or the vet say when they expect she will start to deliver?

To Frank and family…I too, tried to calm those who were so concerned by guiding to a website that would explain a bit about the goats…but to no avail.  I thank you for letting us into this world of Pepper and Elle.  Even my hubby who is not a computer addict stops by several times a day to watch what is going on.  I am sorry for the negative stuff that was posted…we kept trying to tell them not to worry, though they just wouldn’t listen…only post more negativity.  Goats are livestock….they are meant to be outside…multiple birth carry their own set of problems…bottle fed babies are another problem.  The whole deal is, that if you are raising for survival…whether for milk, or for meat, you do what you gotta do.  That is what the Lord put them here for.  I have pigs and chickens, but they have no names.  My Mama always said (she’s passed on now) that she couldn’t eat anything with a name on it….but then, (knowing my Mama) it depends on how hungry she was….lol!  Thank you so much for sharing with us.  I am thinking about doing a chicken cam like this…might be fun…but I will probably get the same garbage, so maybe I shouldn’t…

Poor Elle, she looks so lonesome and tired, of course if I remember I felt pretty tired at that point too!  I just cannot wait to see her with her own little ones.  She was letting the other kids climb on her earlier today and nuzzling them.  I think Pepper is teaching her what to expect and what to do.  I want to stay up all night watching, but sleep is weighing heavy.  Just hard to tear myself away!  I love it that they are learning to jump a little bit!  Gosh they learn so much so fast!!!!!!!!!!!  Just in a daze watching all three nurse and all three tails wagging like crazy!

For the time being, I’m happy to be able to watch, hear, and enjoy their lives—without having to smell! LOL!

I hope he didn’t get charged to have the police come out!  I know in Florida, if it was a false alarm; the person got charged for the call!

Well said, Janice! I, too, listened to those wee ones as I went about my house today. My husband, who was raised on a farm, stopped by to observe with regularity! This is so peaceful!

I must confess I am a worrier especially when it comes to  animals.  I am truly sorry if any of my comments of concern contributed in any way to someone calling the police.  I am sure that was a horrible embarassment to Frank.  I was worried and just thinking out loud. I never dreamed that someone would intrude in that way into his business.
 I thought that I had learned a long time ago to be careful what I put in print.  I guess I had not learned that as well as I thought. From now on any concerns I have, I will keep to myself. I want to thank Frank and his  family for sharing this part of their life with us.  I can tell that Frank is a warm and caring man just from the way he enjoys the goats and the delight he showed at the babies births.   I can’t tell you how much I have enjoyed watching the goat cam for the last week.  It has been a wonderful privilege and so much fun. 
I am so sorry for not trusting you and any embarassment this sad incident has caused, and any part that something I wrote played in it.

Yeah DeeDee, you do NOT want to be downwind of my pigs on a windy day if it is blowing in your direction…it is not pretty…but they will be ready for the freezer soon, and so hopefully we won’t have to deal while in the garden this summer.  we are doing this as survival stuff…not just for fun.  If that were the case, I’d be in Florida on the beach or traveling in the warmer climates.  lol!
