Actually, the saying is, "La mona por más que se vista de seda, mona queda."

A similar saying in English would be, "You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear" or "Fine feathers do not make Fine Birds" or "You can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig."

God in Heaven, you racist heathen. Unbelievable to see this written down despite the location. It's always the most self professed godly that spew the most hate. Oh and minor point you idiots.................taxpayers do not fund her wardrobe. Ever. The expensive outfits tend to be donated for publicity so that argument is BS too.

In regards to stillwild1111, I agree with you it is not racist! It is a saying in a different language. And I wish people would get educated in this country and quit with what they "want to be identified with. The only true African-American, is someone born in Africa and has moved or their parents are American ( think US Bases) These people are Black American.
I do not identify my friends as French Americans, German Americans, Euroasian Americans.
It sounds pretty stupid. An American is a person who was born on American soil.
and "African" and the word negro both mean the same thing Black.
The O's do not have a clue about the real struggling America that we live in today they are too busy spending our money on a vacation every 6 weeks, and wild parties with the highest price tag for their Hollywood friends. I do not think it is proper for a first lady or sitting president to be on tv shows of any kind, unless it is a debate. They are classless. I want MY House back!

Ha! Wow. Ladybug2948 didn't make the slightest allusion to race, yet how quickly you made the inference. The saying is the same and has the same meaning and intent of description regardless of race. It's actually a very popular saying south of the border, where pretty much everyone is "brown".

Oh, and btw, having lived in central america for an extended time, the thing that made me laugh the most about human nature was that the light brown people were always making racist remarks about the dark brown people. As a pasty white guy, all I could do was laugh at the propensity for people EVERYWHERE to divide by differences rather than unite by purpose.

It's even better in Spanish because it rhymes: "Aunque vestido de seda, mono se queda."

I think we should stop tearing down the people who WORK for their money and simply try to learn from them. If The white house wants open records about so much, what about the college records of Mr. Obama? The Romney records are more open than the Obama records. What happened to openness and clarity?

I do care what the Romney's do with their money because if they are fiscally conservative with their money they will be more prone to be so with mine. Who needs a $1000 t-shirt? That is a little out of step and out of touch with the rest of us. And Michelle Obama wearing a nearly $7,000 outfit is ludicrous. They are all out of touch with what the rest of us are able and or willing to do.
