You are very right. The commenter’s statement is valid though, because back in 1963 there weren’t a lot of people on welfare as there is today. There were people of all races receiving aid, but the dems promoted it and used it as a ploy to keep the black people down. Which was easy to do, especially in the South where they were treated as “lesser” people and couldn’t find gainful employment as easily as whites. LBJ had a great dislike of African-Americans. I was 16 back then, and believe me, we have made a lot of progress in civil rights. What we have steadily lost, sadly, is civility. Today we have a twisted, perverse definition of “civil rights”, brought about due to the loss of morals. Now, we have a fraud president in the Whitehouse whose intent is to weaken this great country of ours, giving it over to socialist ways. God help us…

It was congressional democrats that were blocking the civil rights bill. Chief among them was Robert Byrd and Al Gore’s father. It was republicans that helped get the bill passed!!
