And yes...people walked to and from the Civil War...unless you could afford a train or a wagon ride in some part of your trip...but likely most could not...unless someone heard where they were...and came to find them and bring them home. The older you get the more you realize that many pay the price for a few people's sins in war...no mater how great the cause...it is usually a few who cause the problem...and then a lot have to remedy it.
