A true conservative should have principles that cannot be swayed IMO, due to the understanding of what is the role of government and what we should or shouldn't allow it to do. My intellectual and spiritual upbringing has given me an intestinal fortitude that doesn't allow me to accept that two wrongs make a right, and I cannot take advantage of things or people when it is not the right thing to do. I've entertained exactly what you've suggested as I feel that government has caused every single problem that we are experiencing thanks to CRONY capitalism and the radical left politician's desire for a socialist state, and it has killed my industry, and I am poor in comparison to 10, 15, and especially 20 years ago. I understand/ I can appreciate.. why hordes of otherwise good people are flocking to the handout trucks, and I don't hate them for it. But my disdain for this current government has grown ten-fold because I know that they are cunning in their intentions to cause the people to take on this attitude and thus to overload the system so that they can institute a new one. Anyway, I could qualify for stuff (I suspect), but I can't bring myself to take things that would hurt OUR government, regardless it is being destroyed by the people temporarily in charge. I don't want my fingerprints on its demise. And I hold out hope that we will turn this ship around, and we will need every penny for the future. I don't want to hurt US. I don't yet have the defeatist mentality.
