Also, underage?  By all accounts, the slave girl was 17.  17 was NOT considered underage in the early 1800s, you know.  In fact, it was considered normal for women to be married by 17 years of age in those days.  Many families of the time even tried to match a man for their daughters, some even younger than 17 years of age, long before they even reached the current age of majority just so they can have a good life.

It was a different time, you know.  17 was NOT considered underage then as they are considered to be now.  Heck, look at Edgar Allan Poe’s case.  Same case there.  Such relationships with others who are now considered to be underage were actually considered normal because at that time those girls were actually of the age of majority.
