Anyone who down plays George Washington's love of country and duty is un American. The heart ships that not only he and his army suffered but oh poor Martha, by his side during many cold winters, and battles. I'm not a scholar but I'm from New Jersey and if it wasn't for George, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and all the founding fathers we would still be speaking the Kings English. If Sally is the only dirt historians can dig up on George my god he was a saint. Look at our country now I know of a few founding fathers and the woman in their lives that are rolling in their graves. I love my country so don't tread on it or the General who gave up his personal life so I could sit here and write this. What is wrong with NBC have we sunk so low to make a buck tell the truth but don't cheapen it.I have watched HBO's John Adams so many times I went though 2 sets of DVDs. No man is a saint if so we wouldn't need wars. I say thank you to all of them George wasn't a saint no man is but he went and gave the English a taste of good old American kick a--....Oh we did that twice.. Sour grapes - doesn't that candy come from England? DW

Oh God! George Washington was a human being, or have you forgotten? And Hollywood has portrayed him in both the movies and television before. Lighten up.

Hate to break it to you, but Thomas Jefferson having sex with that slave girl is still debatable. There still isn't any reliable evidence proving it.

Also, underage? By all accounts, the slave girl was 17. 17 was NOT considered underage in the early 1800s, you know. In fact, it was considered normal for women to be married by 17 years of age in those days. Many families of the time even tried to match a man for their daughters, some even younger than 17 years of age, long before they even reached the current age of majority just so they can have a good life.

It was a different time, you know. 17 was NOT considered underage then as they are considered to be now. Heck, look at Edgar Allan Poe's case. Same case there. Such relationships with others who are now considered to be underage were actually considered normal because at that time those girls were actually of the age of majority.

In the early '80s we had the GW miniseries with Barry Bostwick. It depicted his interest in Sally Fairfax but didn't suggest adultery. Some print critic complained that the Fairfax relationship wasn't even historically true.
