Can't help but be reminded and saddened by the lyrics of 'The Living Years'

Crumpled bits of paperFilled with imperfect thoughtStilted conversationsI'm afraid that's all we've got...
So we open up a quarrelBetween the present and the pastWe only sacrifice the futureIt's the bitterness that lasts...

Don't blame the kids for a lost of this!! Mom and Dad let the little angels do whatever they wanted when they were little and maybe should have had a swat on the rear and a stern "NO". Kids don't know and somehow have a big problem learning from their envioment. These evidently never knew right from wrong or what "work" is. PARENTS take warning, these angels could be yours.

Then, for Heaven sake, go to HER. Apologize for whatever harsh words were passed. Nothing will ever make up for how you will feel when it is too late. Nothing can compensate for the loss of a child, whether due to death or estrangement.

Welcome to being part of the problem, masterchief. I'm hoping that you have never been in the military and your name refers to something else, because you have no realistic understanding of the world. Had you been a master chief in my squadron, you would not have remained long as this type of talk is divisive to the mission. Properly directed empathy is completely appropriate, but poorly directed empathy leads to more problems. The biggest problem is that those who claim to have the most "empathy" often have no intention of reaching into their own pocket to prove the depth of their personal empathy, they feel that government sanctioned theft of others somehow makes them "generous" because their opinions are well placed. You do not have empathy, you have a vague sense of "someone ought to do something," meaning...someone ELSE. The fact that a president with the worst economic record in history is elected to deliver even more of the same perfectly demonstrates that this country has now entered a period of time in which the majority believe that if something bad happens to them, it gives them claim to the possessions of others. Look at what is happening on Staten Island and most of New Jersey. Town meetings are devolving into platforms for screaming, foul-mouthed haters that have an overwhelming sense of entitlement mixed with an overweening sense of "we're not gonna take it anymore". The same thing happened during Katrina. Suddenly, the government was Santa Claus and everyone was just as suddenly from New Orleans and collecting thousands and thousands of dollars with no accountability. It's ridiculous. There is no group in this country that is being actively assaulted, yet, anyone who has experienced a setback feels that it demands more taxation of the "rich". The only agreement they seem to have on who exactly are the rich is that the entitled know that it's not THEM. No longer do the majority value negative experiences for the lessons that they teach in self reliance. Instead, hapless, helpless victimhood is claimed by anyone who doesn't like what someone is saying. Because they are victims, speech not agreeing with them is "hate" and should be suppressed as such. Now, those who should be elevated to platforms of laud as examples of fulfilling the American dream are excoriated for having risen above poverty and become successful. The schools have been quite effective at preaching rhetoric that is not based on successful economic theories, but rather, seems more appropriate under the reign of the "nomeclatura" (Russian for "named ones") in the former Soviet Union. We are NOT equal. We are NOT all gifted at the same things. We do not live in a system in which there is a fixed amount of resources and wealth in which anyone who succeeds more than another is a criminal for having stolen from those who "rightfully" and collectively own the resources and the wealth. Your beliefs make you little more than an accessory to theft. But, by all means, keep them. I find that those who believe that any setback makes you a victim usually stay right where they are at...whining and blaming everyone else while claiming that success is not possible.

I too have finally had this conversation with my 35 year old daughter. It was the only thing left to say. We haven't spoken since, but, a bit of peace has come to me from it as well as to my granddaughter, whom my husband and I have raised since age 7...now 17...It released us and finally made her life, her complete responsibility... Americas 'gen X' youth was truly 'wasted' and their offspring lost to the system. My sweet revenge is that my granddaughter is much more responsible and 'republican' than my daughter ever was!
Take heart! Maybe the hope lay with the next generation!
