Glenn unveils his most ambitious and visionary dream: Independence

What are the American Dream Labs building towards? Glenn gave a look at the big picture that everything is building towards: Independence, USA!

While Independence is very much a dream at this point, the proposed city-theme park hybrid would bring several of Glenn’s seemingly disconnected projects into one place. Media, live events, small business stores, educational projects, charity, entertainment, news, information, and technology R&D – all of these things would have a home in Independence. With the rest of the country and the world going away from the values of freedom, responsibility and truth, Independence would be a place built on the very foundation of those principles. A retreat from the world where entrepreneurs, artists, and creators could come to put their ideas to work. A place for families to bring their children to be inspired.

The ambitious project, projected to cost over two billion dollars, has been heavily influenced by Walt Disney. As Glenn has been explaining throughout the week, Disneyland was originally intended to be a place where people would find happiness, inspiration, courage and hope. Over time, Walt Disney’s original vision has been lost. While hundreds of thousands still flock to the town, it’s become commercialized and the big dreams and the heart have been compromised.

Glenn believes that he can bring the heart and the spirit of Walt’s early Disneyland ideas into reality. Independence, USA wouldn’t be about rides and merchandise, but would be about community and freedom. The Marketplace would be a place where craftmen and artisan could open and run real small businesses and stores. The owners and tradesmen could hold apprenticeships and teach young people the skills and entrepreneurial spirit that has been lost in today’s entitlement state.

There would also be an Media Center, where Glenn’s production company would film television, movies, documentaries, and more. Glenn hoped to include scripted television that would challenge viewers without resorting to a loss of human decency. He also said it would be a place where aspiring journalists would learn how to be great reporters.

Across the lake, there would be a church modelled after The Alamo which would act as a multi-denominational mission center. The town will also have a working ranch where visitors can learn how to farm and work the land.

Independence would also be home to a Research and Development center where people would come to learn, innovate, educate, and create. There would be a theme park for people to recharge and have fun with their families.

People would also have the option to live in Independence, with a residential area where people of different incomes could all come together and be neighbors.

While Glenn was clear that Independence, USA is very much a dream at this point, viewers and fans should watch both old shows and new shows to see how Glenn’s various projects all have their tie to this one place that currently exists only in Glenn’s vision. But just because Independence doesn’t exist yet, it doesn’t mean the American Dream Labs aren’t starting to build the pieces. The Dream Labs are currently working on special effects technology that would be featured in Independence in this summer’s The Man in the Moon show.

    I was totally amazed and excited after watching your show today.  I should have picked up the clues with all this stuff about Disney but I was not expecting the grandeur of the vision.  I hope you get on more TV outlets.  I am thankful that you are on Dish.  I’m looking forward to seeing more about the community.

    Glenn I praise you for your enthusiasm, even foresight, I would that more of our people hold the same dreams – then, we might not see the rise of evil and hatred all around us. Not America only, but throughout the civilized (?) world.

    You Mr Beck should know by now, that there already exist explicitly detailed, in-depth plans of cities who’ streets are paved in pure refined gold, and materials that will not decay or rust away will be used in all architecture the world over. 

    Keep your eye on the prize “the city of Jerusalem”

    Everything man puts his hand to do, eventually fails and rots away. I add the following verse as a reminder of that which I speak…..

    “The Mountain of the Lord”

    “In the last days the mountain (nation) of the Lords temple will be established as the chief among the mountains; it will be raised above the hills (smaller nations) and peoples (human beings – it will be on the earth) will stream into it.

    “Many nations will come and say, “Come, let us go up unto the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us of his ways, so that we may walk in his paths.”

    The Law will go out from Zion (Gods One True Church) and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. (the City where Gods church headquarters will soon be located) He will judge between many peoples and will settle disputes for strong nations far and wide. They will beat their swords (weapons of war) into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. (Agriculture will play a large role in this soon coming land ruled by God himself, focusing on healthy foods instead of what we have become so used in todays world farming community) Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore. Every man will sit under his own vine and  under his own fig tree, and no one will make them afraid, for the Lord Almighty has spoken. All the nations may walk in the name of their gods; we will walk in the name of our God forever and ever.”- Micah 4:1-5

    If you noticed Glenn, the above verses start out “in the last days” – there is an abundant amount of overwhelming proof, that we are living in those very days today….so as far as your dream, don’t lose your vision, it simply will have to be placed on hold for the time being – until – God sets up his peaceful earthly kingdom very soon.

    One more thing I feel I must add. The reason that the plans of men (such as the above story thread) do not last long, is because men have not mastered the art of peace…we simply do not know how to get along, and even if time did permit for your dreams to became a reality, how long do you suppose it would take before conflict arose and division set in to destroyed everything you worked for. (that’s the ugly unfortunate history of man) After reading the above verses, you may have noticed, even after God sets up his kingdom, other peoples living in other nations around the world, will still have the ability to worship whatever god they please, eventually though, thanks to the abundant patients of the one true God, all nations will eventually realize the error of their way and seek out the God of Jacob just as the above scripture indicates they do.

    That day is when you can let loose with even bigger dreams, because God is also a visionary, wielding big plans and dreams of his own, visions and thoughts that have never entered the conscience mind of man….so don’t let your hopes fade away, but be patient and wait on the Lord to bring lasting peace to this place first.

    As a long time fan of Glenn, it wouldn’t take a lot of effort on my part
    to convince Jill and our daughter to make the move.  What we’d need
    access to the ocean (for our sanity) and a work force with a willingness
    to learn and a competitive sense.  Business nearly doubled year over
    year and if we are going to grow, we will be in a hiring cycle.

    Some of us already work in a way that can let us relocate anywhere in the country.  My wife, daughter, and I are aggressively building a company based on my grandfather’s artistry.  While I went from $7k/year in 2008, by 2011 we were able to take the business full time for both Jill and I, hired my daughter in a flex schedule, and we are considering further expansion. 

    We applied to join the Marketplace six months ago, and while we have had no response but a ’1 month backlog’ 3 months ago, we are growing at a rate that we probably don’t need The Marketplace to continue on our current exponential growth curve.  The only thing The Marketplace would do is steepen the already sharp curve. 

    That being said, it was Glenn’s show on the FoxNews network that got me to dust off my old skills, quit my IT job that was bought out by a foreign company, and build this old school business past the heights my grandfather would have ever dreamed of.

    I hope this concept comes to pass, I’d love to be involved at some level, but I hope it can happen soon enough that we are still mobile enough to take advantage of it and apply our employment resources towards the project.

    I’d like to thank your for your well considered opinion, and let me take a moment to express my own.  From a distance, Glenn doesn’t strike me as someone that would be shooting someone not immediately trying to harm those he loves.  he spends quite a bit of time talking about how immigrants were assimilated into American culture and how we are an open country with a very clear path to citizenship.

    I’m curious where you develop the point of view that Glenn has any problem with any law abiding citizen aside from debating policy and direction for our country?

    I want to know what you are doing about the money issue? Can we help raise the money? I want to help so that my children would have the option to live in such an environment.  Please start some sort of “campaign” to spread the word and get this going on an American Community level.     I have been looking into having an apprenticeship program here in Oregon, but the Unions have Officials in their back pockets.  And for me to do so without paying full wages as compensation would make me a Criminal…

    I would happily share any and all knowledge I have to be an Instructor/Student there, especially with my wife and kids having the Opportunity to Learn and Grow also.

    Just Like Einstein, I believe in God & Science; in either case there are things that can be explained and things that cannot be explained…  I want to explore those possibilities in both Science & Religion!

    I think this is so brilliant!!  Actually “living” the dream and get creative while doing so.  This could be a place where a kid learns quicker than most what they actually are passionate about.

    I would love to send my 21 and 22 year old girls to college.  I have
    denied them so far.  It’s cancer.  However, I would love to come to a
    place like Independence and let them discover and find inspiration for their talents and dreams.

    Every since all the Disney talk, I always thought Glenn would make a theme park!!  I have had “Six Flags Under Baltimore” skit in my head for awhile now.  Please could someone at GBTV make that classic a clip here on GBTV.  It is too funny not to?

    Draxx… I completely agree with you.  Even though I’m in my early 30′s, have a family, I’ve gone back to school full time to get my degree in Geology.  Being able to bring science and religion together… has always been something I’ve felt  passion for.  Living in a place like this would be amazing.

    Liberals & Communist want to abolish Freedom of Religion in America, they have been attacking all religions (covertly by spreading rumors).  In the last decade the church of Scientology has grown exponentially as failth in religion has diminished.

    Ask yourselves these questions:
    1.  Why do they always say and villainize Jews? “Those penny pinching people are buying up everything and not sharing with the poor.”
    2.  Why are most Colored/Blacks considered, inner city hoodlums, alcoholics, druggies, gang bangers, and racist?  “Homie why ya’ gotta be all white and shit, gettin’ an education?”
    3.  Why are Caucasians all wealthy business owners that can’t keep from robbing the poor, just because they have an education?  Or they are portrayed as Bible thumpers that force their religion on everyone.
    4.  You will hear endless stories of children/adults that have been molested by people in the churches, but not about all those abused in the school system.

    These are just some examples of what we see and hear on our televisions everyday.  Now, we see these more often in our internet activities.  Just ask yourself… WHY?

    Great concept for those who want to quit their present communities or have otherwise determined the world is going to hell in a handbasket. Live in fear of doom until you can’t take it anymore–then escape. When you surf the internet for a living like Beck and focus only on things that support your radical libertarian agenda, it is pretty easy to understand why you and your small target market may find this idea appealing.

     Meanwhile, the rest of us will stay at work in our communites, fighting the good fight for principles and values that are the same as Beck claims to espouse, but Beck never gets out of his cocoon to witness or experience. I wonder how many Board of Supervisors, Township, School Board, PTA, Boy Scout, Church Group or other small society meetings the master Beck has attended the last few years. He may have missed the many hard working volunteers that I come across in my daily travels. Small retail shop operators are a great example–committed to the community in so many ways and not only because it is good for business.

    Great concept for a guy who continues to borrow other people’s work and profit off of it. Kudos for Beck for at least acknowledging it was Walt Dismey’s idea.

     Will the sign at the gates of the City say:
    “Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses, yearning to breath free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore, Send these, the homeless, tempest tost to me,I lift my lamp beside the golden door.”

    Or just admit:
    “give me ye believers in Brother Beck”.

    shake this man’s hand twice in book signings. He embodies genuine caring about
    his fans as he looks you in the eye, making you feel important to him. I am a

    This is fascinating. I will be very interested to see how far along Beck gets with his utopian dream.

    Beck’s description raises a lot of intriguing questions. His residential area, for example, designed with the purpose of breaking down class barriers (Beck goes Marxist?). He says he wants prohibitively expensive real estate mingled with low-price housing. How will that be enforced? What if someone buys a low-price house and then decides he wants to sell it later at a huge markup? Will that be against the rules? Will there be price controls? or a truly free market? Will the owners of the more expensive property complain that they can’t resell their million-dollar homes at a good price because the cheap housing is dragging them down?

    Obviously the overriding goal here is to have a community of true believers, who share an ideology and worldview. What happens when people violate the worldview? Who sets the rules? Will Beck hand down the laws from on high, or will residents vote? What if the results of the vote don’t agree with Beck’s version of The Truth? Will they be overridden?  Will the violating residents be “deprogrammed”?

    This reminds me that I’ve been meaning to do some reading up on the history of Utopian Communities in the US. I guess most don’t end well .. maybe they fizzle out for lack of interest, or turn into cults, or blow up in ugly internal conflicts. Should be interesting to see what happens here.

    This is a great idea and one that many people I have spoken with all over the country would love to see, including myself and my family.  It doesn’t matter where it is located as long as it’s a place we can go to.  Not if but when this dream becomes a reality, it won’t matter if you live in Independence, we should all be looking to help and serve our fellow man, teach correct founding principles, capitalism, and what our God (Deity, high power, or what ever you believe in) would want us to be a better person.  
    Many will criticize and reject this dream, but their are those of us that need to push it along and make it become reality.  Glenn has already taught us what we need to do, we just need to do it.

    This is so interesting, I had this same vision about 20 years ago, not quite on the scale as this but same concept.  We would love to participate.  We already have our own bee hives, chickens, raise large garden to take care of our needs, have raspberries, apple trees, peach trees, pear trees. Have lived around cattle all my life…they are really not scary…ridden horses since I was 2yrs. We could milk cows, providing milk, butter, cheese, butter milk, meat.  We are ready!!

    The term “conservative” has been co-opted and is now rendered meaningless. Almost every “republican” refers to themselves as conservatives and the small minority that doesn’t, the Media does for them.     I have seen this coming since Glenn moved to Texas and bought a Ranch. I just could feel it in my gut. I used to build the residential areas like that when I used to play some video game when the kids were little. I liked the idea of houses built around parks where everyone could interact. I want to move – I am in my 50′s and don’t know what I could offer, but I can still learn and am willing to work hard to fit in. The houses need to be made of concrete they are more efficient and will hold up in hard winds.  Just saying. I saw something I haven’t seen nor felt in a long long time – - HOPE.

    We live in VT because we have always believed it is a safe place to raise a family. No longer the case. Our state is becoming socialist at an alarming rate – a “boutique state” that consists of rich transplants and tourists. Can’t deal with the liberal school system (moved our kids to a Christian school). Too expensive to live here and the values I grew up with in the 60s are gone. We want to be able to offer our children security, hope, education, community . . . all the the things that Independence would provide. Would be proud to be a “founding family”!

    Good luck with that, Glenn. However, I believe that the residents will realize that a “utopia”, created from scratch will have as many problems as the “outside” has, surely different problems. But “the” Golden Age doesn’t exist -it shifts according to points of view, totally subjective.
    BTW, what exactly is “THE TRUTH”; are you sure there is only ONE?

    Anyway, sounds like a large, more intricate, gated community to me. I don’t think the solution to the problems in the US is to “remove” oneself from the country. More than ever, we need people with good principles to integrate.

    I’ll be interested in the results, Mr. Beck. Sincerely, good luck to your people in Independence.

    you are wrong on every single count. First off- my reference to involvement in my community is not self aggrandizing–it is  to remind the faithful on these pages to step back and take a look at their own community–I am sure if everyone thought about how they are contributing to their communities, they would feel engaged, empowered and not want to turn tail and run. Also, in my community, except for the politician class, people work together to solve our community’s problems. Imagine-registered Republican and Democrats attending the same Church who can agree on which “alternative” Christmas philanthropy projects to support! Imagine, my sons’ Boy Scout troop collecting record amounts in food drives the past three years to help a local food cupboard stay well stocked! Imagine, high school seniors contributing their free time for English as a Second language to help their legal immigrant classmates catch up! Yep, some how people in my town learned citizenship without the aid of Glenn Beck. I suspect everyone has similar life experiences if they want to look for them or acnowledge them.

     Second, I did not vote for Obama. Third no one man, not Obama, not Beck, or anyone else,nor one movement is capable of breaking my independent spirit. If you believe that Obama thinks he is some sort of messiah capable of crushing you, that is your perogative. My life experience has taught me that about 70% of all national politicians (regardless of party affiliation ) think they are some kind of high and mighty being, so Obama is nothing new here. Only one Messiah that I am aware of, and I suspect we all struggle to follow His example. Oh, and you don’t think Glenn beck has a little of that messiah complex going on in his head?

    Fourth, I have not made millions yet– just another average person trying to support my family through a small business. If I made them the way Beck has, exploiting people’s fears through chicanery and clown like behavior, i would be ashamed of myself. Beck is very good at what he does–what he does is extremely cynical. He has been doing it his whole life. His stripes change, but he is still a charlatan. I beleive in the Constitution and all it stands for; I have also had the opportunity to study it outside of the falsely colored glasses that David Barton and Glenn beck wear. Although they have clear views on the Constituiton, neither of them are Constitutional law scholars.

    This whole nonsense about creating Glenn beckville is just another attempt to sound cutting edge, reinvent himself and remain relevant. Marketing 101 is the only college class Mr. Beck did not need to take.

    Glenn, America’s golden streets were ripped up and stolen 30 years ago.  It’s all over for what use to be the United States of America.  This past election tells us all VOLUMES about the ilk of citizen left in this country.  The rich ones and the lucky ones can leave.  The rest of us are stuck running in quick sand as our leaders sold out long ago!

    It’s over.  No leadership. No Hope.  And no chance of change that would produce any tangible difference.  Our education system has been watered down to accommodate not the huddled masses but the moronic masses.  And all our kids suffer and, consequently, no one excels.

    It’s interesting that Beck in proposing a mandate for Amish self-sufficiency,  a standard house size for for rich and poor alike (Communist?), and the “greening of America” by using less pavement and solar technology (environmental activism), “my” national archives (a dictator’s propaganda?) and yearly “de-programming” services of your college kids to “show them the truth” (Hitler’s Youth?), Equating gun-lovers to persecuted Jews…this is surely an odd combination of ideas from an addled mind.

    I’m a little worried that Beck is afraid the cows are conspiring against him…hopefully he decides not to be mayor or dictator…you know what happens when they get paranoid.

    Not exactly creative, since it’s modeled on our modern U.S., and simultaneously purports to be some sort of beacon…huh?  The U.S. was once the home of all kinds of interesting “colonies”, from religious communes to what not.  But this will never get built.  Even Glenn Beck knows better…any such society would implode almost immediately.

    I have been dreaming of creating such a self-sustaining community similar to this but more for my own family and their children to raise the next generation. A community where we all work together and share our labors all the while educating the young children to be strong  self sufficient and independent.     I use to think Glenn Beck was an intelligent human being. I listened to him a lot…soaking in the information. As the years progressed and my age caught more wisdom, I was breaking confusion with what Glenn Beck was trying to relay to his listeners. Then confusion turned to facts going the other way. Glenn beck spoke less and less truth in what he states and more and more “what if’s …”  or “this is my opinion…”  Stretching the truth to misguide people into a level of feeling unhappy with themselves and that his way was the only way. Does anyone understand how a “Cult” is formed? Now Glenn Beck is wanting to build a city called “Independence” .  How many people will be fooled into giving this man and his cult their life savings for nothing in return but a smile and a condolence of “I’m sorry, but…” ? I have one comment to leave him with and all his listeners as well as the readers who have stuck it out long enough to finish reading this comment. Never allow greed to overcome your power and never allow power to overcome your intelligence.

    What Glenn Beck doesn’t tell you about his fancy city is someone will have to furnish power, electricity, construction etc. Then what keeps another cult from wanting his city ? NOTHING ! !  This idea is so primitive and there will be fights and arguments over who rules and what is “the way it is done here…” Please people, listen to him and decide for yourself. It’s your life, but isolating yourself into his cult will only bring you sadness in the long run. Life is too short to contain yourself to “his way”.  I am not happy with the way the U.S.A. is run, but living inside “his world” would not only be isolating myself, but my family from “the rest of the world”. Sorry, I want my children to understand the truth, not only through books, but in person. Seeing is believing.

    And will this happen to be located in Independence, Missouri, where Mormons believe Jesus will return?  Did Glenn get a vision from Joseph Smith?  Does he plan to re-establish the United Order and prepare for the end times? More news later, as failing to elect Romney, Glenn declares himself the new Prophet for the end times.  How many of you Mormon haters are aware of all the subtle and not so subtle references Glenn makes to Mormonism?  Why does the church support Glenn and sell his trash in the Deseret Book Store?  They told me, because people want it and as long as there is demand (aka sales $) they will stock him on the shelves.  I am disgusted by this.  Glenn is an embarrassment to the faith. Why does he have Mormon followers?  Are we so eager to be accepted that we fawn over this guy? I dare you to print this, or to truly have a society where all views, and those in opposition to yours are freely exchanged.  One day Glenn is holy, holy, and the next day he is putting the president’s image in a jar of urine.  Wackadoodle doo. So much for respecting others and living in harmony.  This will end sadly, like those who followed Jim Jones.Of course, there shall be many guns in Independence, for a last stand against the legitimate government of the US.  Glenn will “take the country back” and restore the Constitution, which prophecy says will be hanging by a thread.  This is  a mixed up, twisted fantasy, combining Mormon prophecy, Skousen, Ayn Rand and whatever else Beck can patch together. If he just jumbles it all up and adds the right terms and phrases he can suck in masses of sheeple and take them all right over the cliff. Beware. Since Salt Lake is being over run by a those free agency sinners, the gentiles, boozers, gays, and  tattooed homeless kids,   What else can Glenn do to save us all?  Start a new community, called Independence, of course.  Once he has you in there, he will lock the doors and there is only one way out.  Don’t drink the Kook-aid. Yet, now you are trying to sell the same idea. Just because you name it “Independence” doesn’t mean it’s any different than places with names like “Happy Orchard” or “Pleasant Grove”.

    Okay…I’m a liberal, gay man and for once, I have to AGREE with Glen Beck. I’ve had this same thought for years. I grew up in rural American in Amish country. I’ve often said that the only way to save America is to abandon it, that is…the America we see today: corporate-driven, lobbyist-controlled, corrupt government, poisoned & processed food America. The only way to do that is to go back to the idea of living in real communities that know and support each other, much like the Amish. Drop out of “the system” and be as un-dependent on government, as possible. That’s real freedom. The only way it could get better is if you could do it on an island somewhere and establish your own national government. Our government is beyond repair and the only way to fix it is to start from scratch again. Beck’s right. It’s the only logical, non-violent way to revolutionize America today. I’ve said this for 10 years now. The problem is that Beck would probably expect all his new settlers to be straight, Christians. Such a shame. If it’s not open to everyone, then he’d just be creating a microcosm of the exact same larger problem that engulfs the U.S. It’s a great concept, especially if they produce their OWN CURRENCY to prevent financial manipulation. They just can’t expect everyone to be think, act and believe exactly the same way. As long as he stay focused on economic and Constitutional freedoms and doesn’t let emotion over social issues take over, it could work…because that’s the problem with the U.S. today. Everyone is focused on the “hot button” issues like abortion, marriage equality for gays and the like. NONE of those things affect our day-to-day life, but money and the freedom to live your life as you choose without government interference does.

There are many factors to consider before even planning a wind farm that require time and planning. I’m concerned furthermore with impositions by the Feds regarding housing and transportation infrastructure which could clash with this plan. I foresee problems with maintaining community if an overly conservative covenant(s) are attempted to be enforced. Personally, me being the ham radio operator I am, I would have to live close to the Ranch to construct a small tower for my antennas to provide emergency communications when the cell towers go out. Being libertarian requires a certain degree of tolerance among neighbors, but most people worry about the investment value of their property and don’t like ugly towers and TV antennas. Never mind the small DirecTV or Dish, despite the fact a strong hailstorm or thunderstorm ruins your reception. I’m even developing an idea for a functional small town of nothing but horse enthusiasts. As Beck would likely suggest, there will be places with specific restrictions, and my idea is no different. Downtown’s center will not allow any motor vehicles except emergency ones and only as required. However, all businesses will have public road access on the opposite side – away from the town center. This is only a minor part of what I have envisioned. There will be no issues with access to and from town itself, but it will be very horse-friendly including horse buggies. The Amish will be welcomed, although the town itself will not have any specific religious leanings. Is such a place possible? Consider one Louisiana town that last year banned horse riders who frequently rode around. I don’t know the complete story, but it struck me that there is a community and demand for such a place of like-minded people. It can be free enough not to be too stuffy, not to be a commune, certainly not being a cult. Crafting it with much thought to sustainability and reality is a MUST for it to thrive.

The Amish will be welcomed, although the town itself will not have any specific religious leanings. Is such a place possible? Consider one Louisiana town that last year banned horse riders who frequently rode around. I don’t know the complete story, but it struck me that there is a community and demand for such a place of like-minded people. It can be free enough not to be too stuffy, not to be a commune, certainly not being a cult. Crafting it with much thought to sustainability and reality is a MUST for it to thrive.

    I get the whole theme park thing and centers for education and business. But you lose me when you start talking about residential living being associated with this place. I mean basically it would be the same as anywhere else because you would still have to follow all the “laws of the land” as far as city ordinances, real estate laws, etc. It’s not like you could create your own set of laws to govern your community, or if you did it would be like living in the worst HOA nightmare ever. Who would be the one to impose such regulations. Would it be Beck’s way or the highway? Sounds too much like a dictatorship/cult of Glenn Beck. Just take the residential side out of it and let it be a business/media/education center/ theme park and you might be successful.

    Where will he get electricity? Who will collect and rid the place of trash? Who gets to -or will there be schools? If he intends to run an apprenticeship system, the usual deals are made between fathers and tradesmen. Children as young as 6 are given over to live and work for a tradesmen, in “exchange” for being taught and brought into the business. There is no freedom of choice. Ben Franklin was so apprenticed and  he left without permission, owing labor and service to his “master”. Remember that word: MASTER.
    Your employer until you do your first real “master level work” is essentially your owner. Beck must like the sound of that word. No public schools and parents responsible to teach ABC’s. No higher math and children(boys) sold to shops to “learn a trade” where they become slaves until age 21 or so.
    So only the people wealthy enough to send kids to college and graduate school will ever reach higher than mere tradesmen. I’m sure his “turners, black, copper and tin smiths will be very photgenic but, like Ford’s attempt at the same thing in the 1910-20′s, it was a flop and a fiction where Ford paid for everyone to put on an act.

    I have had the same dream for a long time, more or less along the lines of building a conservative town where liberals are not allowed.  The town would be well designed from the get go and would be somewhat old school w/a town square for the community to have a central hub to come together etc.  Fracking and drilling allowed!  Ha!
    And of course well positioned for security purposes, designed to be able to protect its boundaries and have proper water supplies in emergency situations etc.With all that said, years ago I had some friends that were hippy, dippy, granola heads that did healing work for a living.  All of them wonderful people.  Their dream was to build and run a healing retreat center.  There was so much in-house fighting over ideas and policies that their idea never happened.  Financial resources were there, they simply couldn’t come together even from a “loving” place.   I kinda found it amusing.

    I understand the whole,”if you don’t like it don’t live here” mentality, but, there is a point you are missing.  Glenn’s minions decide what it is like, and you fit into that mold, it’s not decided by the people, it’s centrally planned.  You don’t have a choice…you can’t change the front yard back yard situation, the freedom here is an illusion, because you would only feel “free” if you agree to the terms set forth.  The hypocrisy here is breath taking. 

    Can you practice any religion here?  What are the gun laws?  What about private schools, can you home school?  What if I don’t like my neighbors, can I get a property with a backyard?  No hot dogs or beer?  Is this a dry city?  What about distilling your own spirits?  Are you going to have your own courts, city hall?  How much are taxes?  Does the municipality care for the landscaping, roads, infrastructure, or is that privately maintained.  Glenn, you know this isn’t going to happen, and if it does, I give it 5 years before you stop dumping your own fortune into it…

    IMO, best way is to get about 1000 lawyers (ridiculously high number) whose primary goal is to hinder, block, annul any federal/state intrusion, keep taxes under 5%, require allodial title on all property, only allow lawful money (not FRNs), and let the markets be free.  Done, you don’t need to plan anything else, where there is freedom, people will strive.

    Is this supposed to be revolutionary? Sounds a lot like smart-growth and sustainable planning. In fact, many cities have been incorporating these planning techniques into their city planning agendas for the last decade or more. I’m confused because many of these techniques or strategies are considered liberal, such as buy local and supporting community food production. Maybe it is time we just accept that we probably all want the same thing. If have never seen a community like this before, then go visit one. You might be surprised.

One was the most influential amusement park ever created and the other would have been a community of 20,000. Walt’s organization was granted governmental powers beyond belief by the State of Florida just after his death. He should read my book on the subject called Walt and the Promise of Progress City. He can check with Disney Legend Marty Sklar since the book was based on conversations with Harrison “Buzz” Price, the man who did Walt’s feasibility studies.

    There are also several that say we must work within the system to “correct” the course that America currently finds itself on.
    This idea has significant merit, only because the spark of free thought is suppressed by free stuff.
    The idea of Freedom and Independence can no longer germinate and grow, due to the sheer number of people, for whatever reason, believe that the State is better able to make your life decisions than you are.
    It took over 30 years of constant effort to beat critical thinking out of the citizens of America.
    It’s going to take significant time to rekindle that ability.
    Beck is attempting to provide the venue.
    The question is, are there enough people with the unwavering belief that Freedom and Self Determination is preferable to captivity and control by an overarching government.
    It’s worth the try.

    how would this actually work?  how would each household get the essential services?  Electricity?  Water?  Waste removal?  What about other “creature” comforts, like a table, or a bed or windows in your home?  Will there have to be cabinet makers and window makers?  window making without the aid of modernized large factories is very time consuming and dangerous.

    What about clothing or shoes?  I guess this community will have to have its own cotton fields and cattle for leather, but again how it is going to get the crops from the field to each person if there’s no trucks or fuel?  I guess there needs to be automotive factories and oil well and refineries.  Should the oil refiner be regulated before they start drilling to prevent them from polluting or after people get sick and die?  How will the refinery worker be compensated or the car maker?  I’m assuming you can’t effectively drill or refine oil and you can not build a car by your self.  Oh an where would one get the iron and aluminium and other metals needed to manufacture a car or build any machines for that matter.

    By the way have you ever tried farming?  Being subject to the weather and soil condition doesn’t sound like fun and how does a farmer who raises crops turn his excess production into shoes for his family or a window? Will we have to go to a pure barter system?  and what about the media arm of becktopia?  Since they don’t produce a physical good that can be traded, how will they eat in this society?  

    What about health care, how will a doctor do his/her job with out modern medicine?  Most of the modern drugs we have today are purely synthetic and can not be replicated by natural means.  OK I guess we are going to need some kind of manufacturing for medicines.  OK then what about the ingredients then for medicines?…  

    Lets say there’s no way for you to be completely self sufficient and you have to trade with the outside world, why would any one in their right mind want to trade with people with little to no industrial scale products, precious metals or other natural resources?  Or at least don’t have the capability to develop those resources even if they did have them?

    You can continue to ask yourself these questions until you realize that Glenn Beck and anyone who thinks having a community like this makes a lick of sense are totally illogical.  I do agree with one thing that Glenn Beck said, he wants us to to go back to a simpler time.  Yep if you follow his plan, you would, you’d go back about 200 years.

    This is very cool.  The Ranch, which consumes very little acreage, will provide food for the whole town. That is amazing, considering the present agriculture that requires so much more land.  And that a person who knows nothing about food designed it is amazing.  All food will be local.  We want be consuming tropical foods like bananas, chocolate, coffee, avocados, oranges.  This is good.   And providing all your energy by alternative means, wind turbines, is grand.  And I really appreciate censoring and prohibiting all the liberal media.   Go Freedom!!!!
