Incidentally, if you think that Americans have “turned away from almost all national security issues” you are misguided. Just because Obama is juggling a few things at the same time, doesn’t mean they are not forgotten in view of the big one at hand. It may be that way for you, but then you have trouble focusing on anything and getting it right.

Snowleopard, since when did a traitor have to be stood up in front of a judge to have his citizenship revoked, especially one who took up arms against his country? IF you can honestly tell me that ANY traitor was stripped of his citizenship by a judge before he was executed, then you might have something to complain about. Regardless of your citizenship, when you take up arms against your own country, you have renounced any claims you might have as a citizen. Even hte military men of the South during the Civil War were treated as prisoners of war, NOT citizens of the United States. If you are willing to go in and arrest a known traitor, in his comfort zone and his comrades around to protect him, then attempt to bring him back to this country for trial, I am sure there are people who can give you a nice list to start with.

Of course many in the party’s liberal base, and many investigative journalists and liberal commentators, have been tracking the Obama administration on this, and in some cases vehemently protesting its actions. These are the same voices that have been debating the movie Zero Dark Thirty. But as Frank Rich wrote in his piece in the magazine, there are few signs the broader public, Democrats included, shares that op-ed/blogging outrage. Why? Part of it is partisanship: Some Democrats are willing to give Obama a pass on issues that were enraging in the Bush years – they like their president. But I’d argue two other factors are more significant: (1) Obama doesn’t advertise what he’s doing with the “dead or alive” cowboy rhetoric of Bush and Cheney; (2) Americans turned away from almost all national security issues, from domestic surveillance to the war in Afghanistan, during the Great Recession. Neither the alarming rise of Islamic terrorism in northern Africa nor the Republicans’ ceaseless attempt to transform Benghazi into a crisis of 9/11 proportions has made the public pay any more attention to any related issue, from drone warfare to rendition to targeted assassinations.

The same is true about Beck. He never whined about any of the 11 attacks or 50+ Americans killed during the Bush reign of error. Why not? See above. (It’s called double standards.)
