snowleopard,
You are totally correct, our government (our wrongfully elected ruling elite) is making decisions as to how our children should be raised and they are getting in the way of what should really be happening. as I stated to Glen in a previous post: Our children are not being taught that there are consequence for their bad actions. "No Kid Left Behind" That is total BS. If a kid doesn't take the time to study and learn the way the kid that gets an "A" does, then he should have to repeat the grade until he gets it right. We are teaching our children in sports that "Everyone Wins", that again is BS. Sports are a competition, you have a winner and a LOSER. What we need to teach our children is to lose gracefully.

That, Glen, is the major problem with the way children are being brought up in America. They are not being taught that there are consequence for their bad actions. Stop playing the fence my friend, speak up and tell it like it really is.

My father would not buy his sons a BB gun. I remember him saying, "No, you'll treat it like a toy and you won't respect it." Instead, he bought us .22 rifles at age 10 or so. I DID respect that weapon, and every gun he allowed us to shoot thereafter: .410 shotgun & .30 cal hunting rifle. So when I was trained at NRA hunting course, BSA and USAF firing ranges, and finally CHL course, I already knew to respect the weapons in front of me and to handle them safely. People raised with and taught to respect firearms do not abuse them.

Actually, my kids learned what guns do when I took them out hunting and they got their first deer...and all that goes with that, the gutting of the animal and subsequent butchering. Showed them damage a high power rifle round will do on the organs, rib cage, etc. I think that's even more effective than just teaching them that they are "dangerous".

At one time in this country every boy brought his gun to school, it was a tool that they had to have close. When I was young I brought my shot gun to school on the buss, so I could ride my budies buss to his house, and hunt the weekend with him. No problems at all. Yesterday I had a nurse refuse to come into the exam room with me because I was wearing an NRA cap, and T shirt. She was afraid!

Knives also kill, as do baseball bats, swimming pools, ice picks, stairs and oh yes, the biggest killer of all, cars. More people are killed by cars each year than all of the others I cited (and many other causes) combined. If you are REALLY about saving lives, ban cars. If you are about something else, let's discuss that.

What you are proposing is to take us down into a can of worms. Just because a person has an accident or violates a traffic law is not justification to search their vehicle without a warrant. Thoughts along that track will lead to warrant-less searches by the thousands. Most states do not require any type of registration of firearms unless you are buying it new from a store. It is just too big of a problem with too much money involved for any state to undertake it. Just ask Canada how much money they spent on their failed registration program. Was over 2 billion dollars when they got smart and shut it down. And how much did they achieve by trying? They achieved wasting 2 billion dollars but as for stopping crime, decrease gun violence or any other of the goals they had when they started the program, absolutely zero, unless you consider making some people very rich as an achievement for a government program.

Right now there is a problem with concealed carry permits. Some states do not honor other states permits. Until they get that solved adding another problem to the gun issue would just be a waste of time and it will solve nothing. Zero decrease in crime of any level of violence. Zero decrease in the death rates, Zero decrease in anything except the annoyance level of legal gun owners across the nation.

To sixholdens:
I was not proposing border patrols for guns.I was proposing that you check with each state to see if you have to register yourguns before you go through that state. Many states, if you have an accident ordisobey a traffic violation, will have deputiesthat check your car for guns. If you have aregistration from that state, you will not haveany problems.
If a state will not allow you to register, either
don't go through that state or leave your
gun at home. If you know you are going on
a trip, allow yourself enough time to
register in that state, if they allow guns.
