People raised with and taught to respect firearms do not abuse them. Just because a person has an accident or violates a traffic law is not justification to search their vehicle without a warrant. Thoughts along that track will lead to warrant-less searches by the thousands. Most states do not require any type of registration of firearms unless you are buying it new from a store. It is just too big of a problem with too much money involved for any state to undertake it. Just ask Canada how much money they spent on their failed registration program. Was over 2 billion dollars when they got smart and shut it down. And how much did they achieve by trying? They achieved wasting 2 billion dollars but as for stopping crime, decrease gun violence or any other of the goals they had when they started the program, absolutely zero, unless you consider making some people very rich as an achievement for a government program.
