I would not have it any other way friend. I bet people like Matt never seen a farm let alone knows what goes on there. My Dad grew up on a farm and would tell me of the old days. It does not sound like a bad life.

Mr. Driscoll - Your condescending manner takes away from any kind of message you are wishing to deliver. I know you are trying to make yourself sound more intelligent, but all you are achieving with your negative manner is showing all of us what a total ass you are. Mr. Fisher is correct in his view. I am a college graduate and a product of being raised on a farm...I've personally lived both experiences and I am telling you from experience that Mr. Fisher is correct and that you are wrong. I have a Bachelors of Science in Engineering and I can tell you that I've taken more science and analytical classes than you can imagine...the science behind the global warming issue is incorrect. It is fabricated by guys like Al Gore in an attempt to make billions if not trillions of dollars on selling "carbon credits" which is the biggest load of whooee ever foisted on the world. Gore also invested large amounts of money into the "carbon credit" scam. You need to do your own thinking and investigation into this issue rather than just spew the Leftist agenda out and then call it science. Nothing in the global warming movement is based on actual analytical science; that I can assure you of.

Sam - Having been raised on a farm and graduated from College, I can whole heartedly agree with you. You don't need a college education to learn how to farm. You will be money ahead by far learning from a farmer themselves. Mr. Driscoll is a condescending troll who knows jacksh_t about farming and even less about global warming. Hang in there and do what you think is best. Remember nothing can stop you if you are able to work hard and keep your dreams alive! It's not easy, but nothing worth while is.

Farmers live poor and die rich. Most of the family farmers I know work part time jobs whenever they can so they can keep their payments current.

They don't want to be the generation who loses great-great grandpa's treasure. They'll pass it on to their kids, or die trying.

Farm work is 7 days a week with no time off for holidays. Pigs gotta be fed and cows milked even on Christmas. Mucking out stalls gotta be done every day too.

You've got a better chance getting killed doing farm work than all but a few other occupations.

Farmers are natural communal people. You can't ask for better neighbors. Everyone takes care of each other and shares labor and production because life is harsh in the country. Only in cities is it possible to live totally isolated. You can't catch a runaway pig or fell a 100 tree all by yourself out on the farm.

My neighbors watched their orchards go rotten last season because the migrant laborers didn't show up when the apples got ripe. They lost two thirds of their annual income. City folk can't do the work and don't last a full day on the job. We all pitched in to help but there just aren't enough of us and we're all in the same boat.

Farmland isn't a good investment for non farmers. Farming is not for most people. Your money will do better spent on the lotto.

The science is in your side is full of lairs and you did not answer the question of what does gay marriage have to do with farming.

HAHAHAHAHAHA Oh man you really need to come out of your close minded hole. Okay I am going to break this down to you real simple like. See farming relies on the weather. The stuff that comes from the sky is called rain. The bright orb in the sky is called the sun. Plants rely on rain for hydration and the sun for energy. That is a process called photosynthesis. See the thing is though too much water kills the plants as does too much sun. Now I know your really trying hard here to make the connection on how this relates to global warming. The thing is Sam global warming is happening whether you believe it or not. The shame here is you are too clouded with political bias and adgendas. You let your ignorant political leanings stand in the way of something that 90% of all scientist believe in. Now I know you think all scientist are all liberal hacks too but I honestly do not see you dedicating the majority of your life to studying climate change. The thing about science is that once a theory comes out all other scientist in that field attempt to disprove that theory. It happened with the Higgs Boson particle. Something was thought to have been discovered but it was then disproven. Now with climate change we have very obvious proof that something very serious is happening. Now I know your standard response. "The Earth has always gone through periods of warming and cooling." Yes this is very true but the issue is the rate in which the Earth is heating. It is alarming. Do you know how the Dust Bowl became during the Great Depression?? It wasn't because the mid-West goes through periods of arrid soil. That was man made. I understand you think that climate change is some political adgenda and in some cases it is a political adgenda but the reality is that this is science and it is happening whether you like it or not. Please stop being ignorant. The internet is a fabulous resource for things other than conservative nutjob, conspiracy theorist.

Good Advice...

The Selection Process takes Months to Complete to make sure it is a good fit for Everyone Involved. To be honest if they Do Not have anything of Value Via Skills and/or Vision then they do not become a part of the Community. We try and Diversify Skill Sets & Businesses so that we don't step on each others toes, and All Members/Associates Have to Contribute Something to the Group Effort (whether is it Donating Labor, Lending a hand [and get paid sometimes], Sharing/Discounting Products to Associates, Sharing Knowledge by teaching others, and it is only 15 hours a Month Commitment). By working things out this way We Grow Together (and yes some people come and go away again usually those that try and mooch off others hard work), We Know that there is no perfect solution, but it is better to try and fail then to not try at all...

Most importantly is we are not trying to Save the World (an impossible task with people like G. Soros) but live in Harmony With Others In a Small Community. We share our Knowledge and Vision with Many Other People Offsite of the Farm and Help Them Gain Some Independence from the System.

As my dad always said, You don't get into farming unless you marry it or inherit it. I have one son getting an ag business degree; very little of it is geared toward the producer but more toward those who will work for agricultural support corporations. Would like to see Glenn interview a panel of farmers. Most people think of farming as Farmer Brown driving his tractor with the wind in his hair and growing crops. It is so much more than that and growing increasingly high tech. Many farmers are managing multi-miilion organizations. It isn't Old McDonald had a farm anymore.
