These stories about murdered peasants are not worth the paper they are written on. If there are murdered peasants I would nsuspect some agitator hired by Chavez to stir up strife between the to parties. Chavez( insert your favorite asshole commie dictator here) rides in like a white knight, Save the poor little peasant and viola; See how wonderful communism works? Like I said “Land Reform” will soon mean the murders of lawful land owners, the siezing of their private property;which Chavez was very adroit at, and the implementation of collective farming. Furthermore the oil revenues for venezuela are about 128 billion per year of a nation of about 29 million How does that square that some are still impoverished in a country so flush with oil cash. I’ll tell you. It’s called robbery. The elite at the top of the communist ponzi scheme always seem to have fat bank accounts while the rank and file are relegated to hard labor and table scraps. Chavez was just another in a long line of brutal thugs now just a pile of unuseable carbon. Good thing he was an atheist he might be facing an angry God.

I’m not talking about the past–Chavez is dead. I’m talking about what WILL happen in the future. The elections were a farce and everyone knows Chavez was a dictator.He controlled the country by using the military. Now that he is dead there will be a decline in the economy and the country will revert back to its age old history of revolution. Those that wanted Chavez out of power will fuel the discontent of the poor— as you say the “backlash”. “Popularity’ with the people of Venezula depends on corruption(who gets paid off or killed) and what they are told to believe by those in control of the media.As a country— Education of the masses is not one of their strong points. The rich and wealthy left the country when Chavez came to power. Or they were imprisoned, killed and their property and money confiscated. In less than 5 years there will be a revolution–history repeats itself over and over again in these third world countries.

If, as you and Glenn are trumpeting, Chavez was a brutal dictator, then he would indeed “just go arrest and execute the “Landowners” ” The fact that he didn’t “just go arrest and execute the “Landowners” ” sort of points to the process being different.

So, to summarise – by your own argument you’ve shown that the land reform process wasn’t the act of a brutal dictator, and by evidence I’ve countered your assertation that landowners were murdered by showing you that it was peasants who were murdered by landowners.

On to the fantastical ‘night of the long knives’ theory behind him coming to ‘absolute power’. I take it you refer to him being elected by 56.2% of the electorate in 1998? And absolute leaders don’t bother with elections, do they? And if they do, they’re usually scams that lead to 99% approval ratings. Whereas 59.7% (2001 election) and 63% (2007) indicate a healthy opposition, as well as growing approval of his leadership.

If you’ve any other things you’re thinking about, may I suggest trying this – the exact opposite of what you’re thinking is probably correct. At the very least you’ll be starting from a position that won’t leave you looking *quite* so stupid. Just don’t bother coming back with more unsubstantiated crap, eh?
