Neither of us is dumb dude but we sure disagree. A given person either thinks socialism is sustainable and another person believes it to be insolvent. We are the bank that sustains these nations but WE are going broke man! Did you disagree that the life expectancy here in America is the same whether you are rich or poor? I'd say that won't be the case very soon. HMOs were killed by hypochondriacs and everyone is afraid to admit that. The socialized medicine model goes downhill for the same reason, if you don't pay for health care you're not afraid to go to the doctor for a little scratch. If you pay high taxes and watch your government programs become inefficient by unqualified and usually underpaid employees then you start getting mad about those taxes. When the size of the government increases because of program after program, you watch the revenue get squeezed out of the GDP because socialism by and large has to deplete a GDP SOMEWHERE in order to sustain itself. Just my opinion though.

I disagree with almost everything you said except for one key thing: the fate of those countries IS very reliant on what happens here in America. You are right about that.

In fact, those countries are only able to exist as they do BECAUSE of America.
During the Cold War, America built up a massive military, to keep the Soviet Bear at bay. Us doing that allowed many European countries to put their money back into their people. Those countries didn't have to spend billions on defense because WE were. They relied on us to fend off the Soviet Union. But what if he hadn't done so? Then those countries would have had to spend gazillions on defense...and their little socialist utopias would have never been possible.
I DO sometimes remind my European friends of that. I tell them, "Yeah, you've got it good---but we paid for it". LOL
I'm not a die hard patriot, needless to say...but I do realize Americas worth to the rest of the world.

I really don't have a giant problem with what you are saying. I have not been "taught" to think the way I do though. Me being an American has nothing to do with my feelings about socialism. The resources will run out in Denmark and Sweden. Going to Denmark might broaden my horizons on some levels but it won't change my outlook on a damn thing. I want to know what the hell a "wealth gap" is. The standard of living in the United States narrows the life expectancy of every individual. You can be broke as hell and still have a roof over your head and a big TV. There is absolutely no lack of education amongst the masses in this country whatsoever! The public school system has made sure of that. FAFSA has made sure of that. Denmark is going straight downhill in short order, same as Sweden. Pretty common knowledge that the U.S. military is a HUGE trading partner with those two countries, but since we are cutting the expenditures of our military as a first priority of budget cuts, it sinks the socialist utopias. The problem with 50% tax rates and socialism in general is that there is absolutely no emphasis on hard work, muscular work, long hours, none of that. Socialism has to feed off of something. There is no way around it.

"It takes every effort you've ever undertook and hands the fruits of your labor over to someone who made no effort."

That's what Americans have been taught to think. And most Americans will never see Sweden or Holland or these types of countries so they will continue to believe the propaganda.
In Denmark, the average tax rate is fifty percent---that's not what the rich pay, that's what the AVERAGE person pays. The people there are happy to do so because in return they get free health care, VERY low crime, free college education, and a very high standard of living.
You've been taught to see taxes as a penalty...as a punishment. The Danish people see taxes as their chance to buy a little civilianization. They look to America and they see the huge wealth gap, the millions of homeless, the embarrassingly high crime rate, the horrendous lack of education amongst the masses, the lack of heath care, etc, etc...The Danish people want more. They want better. And they are willing to pay for it.
We can't be like that. I understand that. We simply couldn't afford it, as too many Americans would abuse that sort of system.
And most Americans are fine with this country as it is. I also understand and accept that. All I'm saying is that before Americans whine about taxes and socialism, they should at least learn a little about those things. And not just what Fox News tells them. Or even what MSNBC tells them. I wish more Americans would see for the world themselves. Don't take Glenn Becks word, don't take my word...pick up a passport and GO!

Republicans are xenophobic...stereotype. Republicans are racist...stereotype. Republicans think like Hitler, patent falsehood. You hate Republicans...I'm just making a simple connection. You can't think of Republicans as individual people. I, a registered Republican voter, do not discriminate against anybody. If you claim otherwise about me, it will show that you know nothing at all, in any respect, in any form about me as an individual man. You've made specious claims about another group of people. You think only in generalizations and shame on you. No matter what flag you fly, no matter how you feel about politics, the measure of your integrity is how you treat people who disagree with you. There are good Liberals and I know it. Everywhere I look I see Liberals raising families and working hard and using their brains to get past xenophobia. Unfortunately you are too blind to see that there is most assuredly a similar percentage of Conservatives that are exactly the same. You are a hater and there is no way in hell that you'll admit to it.

The housing bubble burst because of the Dodd-Frank bill which a Democratically controlled House urged Bush to give in to, over and over and over again. He did finally. He did exactly what the Democrats wanted and it turned sour and he took the blame for it. Socialism is an idea. It means take take take take take. Countries like Denmark, Sweden, Finland, the Netherlands...the ones who are doing okay are doing so due to foreign investments. The Greece, Ireland, Portugal, Spanish investors take their money out of the bad economies and move onto the other socialist nations. The reason that a housing/construction boom happens in the first place is that when a middle class gets weakened, namely by paying higher taxes and working less hours, they can't afford rent or mortgages and people get approved for loans (Dodd-Frank principle again) they had no ability to pay. Massive layoffs in combination with massive loans are the key ingredient to any economic crash. It happens in every single solitary socialist nation in the history of man. The very act of thinking socialist is this, "it is the duty of wealthy men to give up what is asked of them by the government for the sake of the greater good." Look at the Stieg Larsson mentality. That man professed till his dying day that the wealthy men of Sweden were fascists trying to undermine the government. He makes the segue way that because of the Nazi holdovers hiding wealth in Swedish banks that all wealthy people in Sweden are therefore Nazis if they don't fall into line. He forgets that even Leftist people can be born poor, become self made, and become wealthy, without being a fascist! This is because of adapting to the market! Why are you going out of your way to defend socialism anyway? It takes every effort you've ever undertook and hands the fruits of your labor over to someone who made no effort.

Well, your optimism is admirable. If not a little contradictory...
You say you don't trust the government to run anything...and then in the next breath say things can be fixed as long as we get the right people in.

I know what you mean, though. You trust "the people" more than the government.
Though if anything led to the economic meltdown it was the people...idiots who make $35,000 a year going out and buying a $450,000 dollar house. Yes, the government helped them do that...but dear me...
Look at Americans---they're greedy, shallow, materialistic, naive...just plain dumb.
If anything, America tends to get a better government than it deserves.

But you don’t need the government for ether all their job was to protect us not rule over us. Freedom is a great thing if you let it grow. I don’t care if it cost me my life I will stand for the rights of the people until they kill me.
