Glenn makes Jay Leno an offer he can’t refuse

Jay Leno and NBC are back in the headlines because it appears as though Leno is being forced out of his Tonight Show gig in favor of the younger Jimmy Fallon. Considering NBC’s ongoing ratings woes, it does not seem all that rational to oust the number one rated late night host but, then again, very few things at NBC are logical.

“Well, looks like Jay Leno, Jay Leno may be leaving NBC and not by his choice,” Glenn said to open the radio show this morning. “By the way, I’m going to make a major announcement here regarding Jay Leno in just a second, but I really like Jay Leno.”

As it turns out, Glenn had the opportunity to meet Leno a few years back, and he was taken with his genuine personality. “He’s an American,” Glenn said. “I think he could sit down with just about anybody and have a decent conversation. And that’s what we have to get back to. That’s what’s wrong with us. And he knows it.”

Perhaps that is why Glenn felt the need to offer Leno a staggering $50 million (!) to join TheBlaze team. “I just really, really like him,” Glenn said, “and that’s why I’m going to make the announcement that I am offering Jay Leno $50 million to come and do his…”

“No, you’re not,” Stu interjected.

“You’re offering him $50 million of whose money,” Pat asked. “I mean, how are we paying for this?”

“Guys, you know I don’t have to actually pay for stuff anymore,” Glenn quipped. “You just rack up the debt and then you say you have full faith and credit and then you’re just like, what?”

In light of Federal Reserve chairman, Ben Bernanke’s, admission that we are printing $85 million a month or about $1 trillion a year, Glenn asked a very realistic question: “So how does that end?”

“Be honest. It ends with the guys who made those promises shooting the people who they promised it to in the head,” Glenn said. “So Leno comes on, he does a few years… We’ll make a deal. We’ll make it $75 million. We’ll make it $100 million. Pay him 100 million but one lump sum at the very end and then we’re not good for it and he when says, ‘Wait a minute, you’ve got to pay,’ poof.”

“Are you threatening to kill him,” Pat joked. “Are you threatening to kill Jay Leno at the end of his contract?”

“A bullet in the head at the end of the contract, that’s the way the world is going,” Glenn responded. “Why not?”

All kidding aside, between the way the situation in Cyprus is being handled and the Federal Reserve’s penchant for endlessly printing money, Glenn’s assessment might be a little grim, but it is certainly in the realm of possibility.

On a lighter note, given Leno’s undeniable success over the years – 18 or 19 years at number one in the time slot – NBC’s handling of this situation is equally suspect. “You know, what is it with NBC seriously,” Glenn asked. “I mean, look at how the way they used to treat people like Carson. They used to treat Carson with respect. It was somebody like, number one for, you know for 40 years and it was great. Here comes Jay Leno, he’s done it now, number one for 18 years and they are like, ‘Yeah, I don’t like that joke last night.’”

“Can we not just treat him with a little bit of respect,” Glenn continued. “NBC, you’re despicable. You’re really despicable. And I know because your network keeps saying how despicable I am. So I must be the authority on despicable. I know despicable apparently when I see it.”

Stu did have one possible explanation for why they are trying to marginalize Leno. “Is it possible, though, that NBC is just promoting Jay Leno to weekends,” Stu joked.

Much like his MSNBC colleague, Ed Shultz, who was recently demoted… make that ‘promoted’… to a weekend timeslot, NBC executives could see taking Leno out of late night as a similar step up.

“I never thought of that,” Glenn said. “It could be.”

“Like they were going to put him on and give him a show like 2:00 to 4:00AM on Saturday and Sunday night,” Stu concluded. “That could be their target here because that’s how NBC does it for promotions.”

I NEVER watch Jay Leno on any TV…  His style just doesn’t interest me, whether he is good or not doesn’t matter!

I like Jay Leno he goes after both sides of the aisle and not a political hack like David Letterman.

On the election of the Pope….. “People all over the world celebrated differently. In Rome they prayed. In Dublin, they sang. In New York, they chugged super-sized Mountain Dews.” –Jay Leno.  Is there any doubt which comedian has the best writers?

I don’t bother watching Leno, not enough time in the day. Yet from what I gather he slams all sides equally, so if you can hire him Glenn, good fortune.

I really like Jay Leno.  He is the best at what he does!
    Letterman is a complete idiot!

i don’t watch him either, too late for me,but what a hoot it would be if he took glenn up on that offer!

If Jay is looking for a way to get back at NBC (whom I think has treated him horribly), taking a job with the Blaze would be priceless.  He doesn’t need the money so even if it was just for a short time or a weekly show…it would be wonderful.  Why not offer him stock in the show/company…or let him produce his own show and give him the spot?  Whatever would work.  Like the idea.  Go for it.

Jay Leno is a hybrid mix. He’s more of a conservative when it comes to fiscal policies, i.e., he uses common sense. But he’s socially liberal in that he supports same sex marriage.

But I do like him, he’s been fair with his jokes where he targets both sides. And frankly, his style of stand-up is a lot more fun to watch. David Letterman, Conan O’Brien … their paces are too slow for me, and add to that their liberal slant, they just lose me. Jimmy Fallon sounds like a good guy, and he demonstrated that when he severely reprimanded his band for playing that inappropriate song when Michele Bachmann was on his show. But as a comedian, I don’t think he’s anywhere near the caliber of Jay Leno, but he’s improving though.

I think it will do TheBlaze a lot of good on multiple levels if Jay Leno does indeed hop into the bandwagon. I for one will be watching Jay’s show (which I do every night anyway at *ugh* NBC).

I think Jay Leno would be the perfect addition to Glenn’s organization.  They are both funny, and often hilarious.  I’m going to try to email Leno and ask him to beg to work with Glenn.  What a great pairing!!!!

It would be fun to have Jay and late late host Craig in Dallas

No matter what Leno’s real political motives are, he is a good person, and he is VERY generous to the needy, poor and infirmed, along with veteran’s programs and such.  I like him because he puts his money where others put their mouth, and even though he throws out some pretty hard hitting jokes about the right, he dishes it out just as thick on the left too.  Letterman and Maher are clowns and disgusting people.

Jimmy Fallon severly reprimanded his band for playing that inappropriate song when Michele Bachmann was on his show??  Did he really?  I’m not doubting you but I never saw him “severely reprimand” anyone.  I have a feeling he knew exactly what that song was even if he wasn’t in on knowing about it beforehand.

LMAO.  He would be perfect on the Blaze if you can get him.   Talk about revenge !! I love the idea.

I don’t like what Jay did to Johnny, taking over His Show,or what Jays arrogance did to Conan!
Conan would’ve have been the Best Host of the Tonight Show, the Closest to Johnny Carson was Conan. Johnny Was The Best and when Jay subbed for Johnny i didn’t watch

Jay Leno on the Blaze? That’d be a hoot. I can imagine Glenn and Jay working the crowd together. Could be a good act. Might persuade me to watch. I like Jay Leno, just can’t stay up that late to catch his show. NBC would be the loser in a deal like that. Wait a minute, they already are the losers. Along with the rest of the MSM.
Do it, Glenn, make him an offer he can’t refuse. He might just do it for less than ya think. Just to take a poke at NBC for a while, maybe.

After Jimmy Fallis goes the way of Connan Obannion, and NBC wants Jay Leno back again, he should wipe his coo-loo with their offer.

Glenn is, per usual, just a little off.

Johnny Carson had LOTS of problems with NBC. He had contract disputes, walkouts, etc. Those of us who grew up in that time remember it well.

The problem for NBC was that Carson was so dominant,  they had no leverage.Carson was able to get them to move the show to LA, cut it from 90 to 60 minutes and have so much vacation time, it was a running joke. He ultimately could do WHATEVER he wanted but NBC still fought him every step along the way. He did NOT feel, as Glenn claimed, treated with respect.

Leno, ratings-leader though he may be, is not as DOMINANT as was Carson, thus he’s more vulnerable.

On a side note, people who use ‘It would be a HOOT’ in conversations, are like REALLY too old. You should step aside and let younger conservatives take the mantle. And, I say that as someone who actually lived during the Johnny Carson Era!

PS Just to show there’s no hard feelings towards those REALLY OLD folks who need to exit stage right, here’s a classic clip from that era of television. It’s my PARTING gift to you! baha

Well, Jay, you made 4 jokes about Obama in the last 6 years, so you have to go!  We only keep people that worship at the feet of Obama, how dare you joke at our dear leader’s expense!

What I like the Most about J. Leno is that he does not take himself too seriously… No matter what the topic is he makes it clear that his show , is a fun – time show. Seems to me that at MSNBC one must start the day by cursing out Glenn Beck…

  • americanathlete

Leno’s awesome! Letterman’s still bitter about NBC picking Leno over him 19 years ago.

  • http://twitter.com/amiciLatinae amiciLatinae

Jay Leno is liberal. He will snub Beck’s offer.

It doesn’t matter what NBC does or doesn’t do –I don’t watch them anyway. I recommend that EVERYONE stop watching too. When Johnny left, since he was the Tonight show, I haven’t watched late night TV. Jay, Tom and all the rest aren’t funny and if they were all fired it wouldn’t bother me. Since NBC is  National Broardcasting Central for Obama I don’t watch it anyway. In fact. I feel the same way about CBS the Central Obama station and ABC — All Obama Company. We rent a lot of RED box, Block Buster and watch Fox and Turner Classics. There really isn’t a lot to watch anyway. Most of the series on TV are promoting the Liberal agenda, the homosexual or lesbian way of life, distorting history and telling out right lies on MSNBC, the histroy channel, NATGEO and Public broardcasting. It’s amazing how even the sports channels promote the progresive agenda,or talk endlessly about the gay athelets. Even they are talking about football or another sport all you hear is how many sports stars are being arrested for selling drugs, fighting in a bar room, getting arrested for DWI,DUI, possession of drugs, domestic abuse with their live in shack up, having sex outside of marriage and bragging about how many women they have slept with, which stars  have aids, etc. The guy on the Wheaties box never used to be a convicted felon, drug addict, adulteror or wife beater. The comedians on TV used to make you laugh and they didn’t use the “ F” word over and over or just talk about sex make sarcastic jokes about being a virgin and calling women whores/ hoes,.Most of the comedians today are just vulgar and crude. Unfortunately even the weather channel has its share of homosexuals and lesbians–an “alternative” life style. Alternative to what–normal?
With the exception of a few specials on TV, There really isn’t much to watch. So good bye Jay and all your millions. I’m sure he will do just fine.

CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, MSN, MSNBC, are never on at my house.  Never, ever.

     An UNSCRUPLED IDIOT at that!

I LOVE JAY LENO!!!!! Absolutely the only reason to watch NBC!! Far, far, far superior to the old fart Letterman! Besides CBS is OVER, all done, cooked!

  • J Cole

Jay Leno is a fool, but even he is not stupid enough to join Glennbeckistan. He knows it would destroy his career to be associated with those right wing nutjobs.
