Glenn on Paula Deen firing: “All you’re doing is silencing people”

Get Glenn Live! On TheBlaze TV

Food Network TV host Paula Deen was fired after admitting she has used the N-word in the past. Obviously using such a hateful word is never welcomed, but should Deen have been fired? She claims to not have used the word in a long, long time and says she used it to describe a man who held her at gunpoint in 1986. Glenn has more on the bizarre story on radio today.

  • landofaahs

I don’t watch television anymore so I have no idea who she is.  If people would quit watching the idiot box they may get involved in the PTA and start making a difference in things.  Hey, maybe even some people would find time to go to church.  Now wouldn’t that be something.  Really folks.  It’s amazing what you accomplish without TV sets.

  • landofaahs

If the firing offends you, then don’t tune in anymore.  If they don’t care enough to put on what you want to watch, then switch channels or better yet.  Turn it off.

C’mon GB, tell the who story, please. I believe in redemption and Paula did apologized, but the main issue is not the apology is the history behind it. When we going to stop using that word, even if it is used by other blacks. Not person should be calling other people derogatory names or racial slurs, not good , not appropiate, very mean, very bad. Let’s move on, OK!

  • landofaahs

No word should be banned.  No matter how offensive.  That is not America.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htXuNPBko3Q Sam Fisher

Maybe you should tell that to your liberal brothers.

    I just don’t care.

…using such a hateful word…”  Oh, common people!  It’s a friggin’ WORD!  I’ve been called a wap, dago, guniea…do I get offended, should I be offended – of course not!  Enough of the PC BS already!

What is at stake here is FREEDOM OF SPEECH.  You may not like what is said, but you MUST defend the right to say it!  puleeze, people!!!  Can you say C O N S T I T U T I O N????”?

  • http://www.facebook.com/gail.b.ramsey Gail Buzalski Ramsey

That’s what I thought of all this, GB!  If this is what people think SHOULD happen to Ms. Deen, then HBO should fire Bill Maher.  (Of course that wouldn’t happen since HBO LIKES the foul-mouthed bully.)

  • Brian Neal

Then, why havent we fired Joe Biden yet? Didn’t he use racial slurs? How about Hilary Clinton? How about obamma bin laden? You don’t fire someone over this issue, especially a popular celebrity who just hosts cooking shows! Come on, Really?

  • http://www.facebook.com/tlc.christensen Tina Christensen

I am trying to understand why she was fired. First of all, she owned up to something she said in the past, the very far past. She apologized and asked for forgiveness…I think that says something about her character. On the other hand, we are still waiting for a sincere apology from the likes of Jamie Foxx, Bill Mahr and David Letterman…I don’t think they will ever be humble enough to do what Paula Deen has done. I have a lot more respect for Paula Deen than I will ever have for those who express their hatred for another person. By firing her for doing what’s right? Doesn’t this send a message to the rest of us, that we will be punished for trying to correct a mistake and being sorry for it? Where is “forgiveness”?  I just don’t understand. I do understand that we are living in an age where evil is being called good, and good is being called evil. But I will always do what is right, even if no one else is doing it. I do not waste my time watching those who are spreading hatred. They will not have my viewing time, nor will I waste my money on attending their movies. I also want to understand, why it is, that when a conservative exercises their freedom of speech, that the liberals have to attack that person personally rather than discussing the subject at hand in a civilized manner?

Let me put this in perspective. Adam West, Condelisa Rice, Collin Powell, Obama, Bill Cosby Beyonce, Martin Luther King etc. are people, people of color or African-American etc. ‘Lil Wayne, Kanye West etc. are niggers. The N word is best used to describe the dredge of a specific race but not the race itself. Every race or nationality has a single word to describe the trash (white-white trash, Puerto Rican-spic, Italian-wop etc.) And if it doesn’t apply to you then don’t be offeneded.
It is not the word but your actions that truly determines your prejudice.
It is time to attack (legally)the organizations, the real trash, who ruin a person’s life for simply using a word without bothering to determine that person’s true values.
It is time to outlaw political correctness.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/JoAnn-Graham/1464290580 JoAnn Graham

If we are going to start retroactively punishing people for things they said years ago, then Obama should be retroactively IMPEACHED for all the lies he has told in the past 5 years–including the oath of office he took in which he swore to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution he seems so hellbent on shredding.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/JoAnn-Graham/1464290580 JoAnn Graham

Then maybe that SHABAZZ idiot should be retroactively FIRED from the Black Panthers for calling white people “crackuhs”.  How is THAT different?  Oh, I’m sorry, I forgot–it’s OK for black people to be blatantly RACIST.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/JoAnn-Graham/1464290580 JoAnn Graham

By this logic, since Obama confessed he used cocaine and smoked pot in the past–call the DEA and “retroactively” throw his sorry A$$ in JAIL for violating the drug laws.

People that take offense to words need to really look at where they are mentally. People taking offense are most likely identifying themselves as what the word means.

So when does the crap start for the blacks who use the n word constantly?….When does the crap start for men like sharpton and farrakhan that are so racist against whites they make me want to vomit..?

  • Anonymous

My family used the N word when I was young.  We were ignorant. We didn’t know any better.  Wouldn’t use it now.  Wonder how many people would get fired from their job that used the N word in the past?  It would probably affect the work force greatly!  Everyone is SO afraid now of race and we are so PC it’s become dangerous.  We have lost our freedom of speech.

  • Anonymous

In the 50-60s a lot people in the South used this word but gradually it disappeared and isn’t use like then.I grew up the South during those times and I would bet that the people who made this decision are in their 30s and have no clue about things in the 60s. I’ll bet they grew up in new york or where ever and have never been south of the mason-dixon line and know nothing about the South. Or could it have been that they were paying Paula Deen too much money and needed to cut the expenses. Let’s see if the next cooking show in her time slot is as popular. PC gone too far!!!

Just ordered my first Paula Deen item…on QVC.  The KKK is racist, the Black panthers are
racist.  Paula Deen is not racist, obviously someone of color (who was probably racist) attacked
Paula to get some of her big bucks.  Not to defend anyones right to slur, but in the public arena, firing her is nothing but hypocritical.
Check out QVC and order something from her nice things…money talks even to hypocirtes.
Got the cookbook holder, very cute…just like Paula. She is a joy bubble!!!

Make no mistake. I don’t think she should be fired either. But let’s not make a saint out of her either. The only reason this came out is because she was testifying in a sexual harassment lawsuit.  Not like she was confessing her sins to cleanse her soul..
And she absolutely has the right to express her opinions. Than and now. But you have to deal with the consequences as well.

That’s the whole point, they want to SILENCE people, that’s part of their AGENDA, with the so-called trend of being “politically correct”.  It’s okay though…that Moochelle obama calls white people – “whiteys” that’s not racist, ey?  or that black people call white people – crackers, or honkies, that’s not racist, either, right?   Paula Deen is a talented, warm-hearted person, who actually had the honesty to tell the truth, and that gets her FIRED!  wow, the hypocrisy of the scummy obama administration and the racist hypocrits out there is simply amazing!  BUT, IF you have the nerve to say one word against them, then you are automatically racist, even if you make a comment that has nothing to do with race.  The deck is STACKED folks, it’s stacked against us!  never-the-less don’t let the slimeballs in WA, stop you from speaking your mind, exercise your 1st Amendment, regardless of their anti-Constitutionalist views of Freedom of Speech, as the day you stop speaking your mind, is the day you lose your Freedom!

Yes, I still call a spade a spade.

There’s no such creature as an African-American. Either they’re African, or
they’re American. They may be white, black, yellow, red, brown, purple… who
cares! If they’re American, that’s all they are. I don’t call myself an
Irish-American, or French-American, or New Zealand-er-American! I’m proud to be
simply called an American … period!  Even if I have a great appreciation for my
    family history, roots and ancestors.

By the way, for the lame brains out there,
the word Negro has two historical foundations. 1) The word Negro is a
transliteration of the color Black. As in Spanish, the word for black
is….Negro. So it is in other languages also. 2) Negro also can refer to the
region in Africa where many slaves were captured and taken to Europe and the
United States (often sold out by their own people in the process)…. as in
Nigeria or the river Niger…. and those were called “Niggers”
because they came from Nigeria. It became a slang generic term for all blacks.

So quit your whining and political correctness. I get sick of hearing one black
calling another black a “nigger” but they get all pissed of when
someone else does it. Gee, I’ve been called Cracker, Yankee, Honky, Whitey, Gringo and
all kinds of other names. Do you see me whining or balling my eyes out to the
President crying for vengeance? If blacks have slang words for whites, and vice
versa then cut out the hypocritical BS and take it like a man.

If I can be called Homophobic or discriminatory for calling a homosexual what
he is, or call him gay, or a fag, why is it NOT discriminatory when they call
us homophobes and other term meant to discredit me and invalidate my opinion
…. which I take very unkindly too, as I am not afraid of gays. I simply
disagree with their lifestyle and that being gay is genetic. That’s my
opinion… so get over it! As a matter of fact, I once had a gay co-worker tell
me he wasn’t a “man” or a “woman”, he called himself a
“fag” as if it were a third gender, which I believe is utter nonsense
    and total BS!

It is not the job of government to save you from yourselves or anyone else,
unless your life is truly in danger. This is called Freedom of Speech… a
guaranteed Constitutional Law and God-given Right. I’m not saying it’s right to
call other people slang names intended to be derogatory, but if you can’t
handle a simple truth, and you indulge in it yourself on the other end, then you need to get over it. My opinion is just as valid as
anyone else’s opinion. If you don’t like what I just said… tough!

It is past time to end political correctness.  I hope Mrs. Paula Deen will get a better job somewhere else.  Although I find any type of derogatory language offensive I do believe that the Constitution grants any citizen of the US the Freedom of Speech.  Who snitched on Mrs. Deen anyway?  Are we becoming slowly a country where watchdogs of the political left will shame and persecute people like the STASI did in the former East Germany?  This secret State Security Police had their tentacles everywhere in schools, universities, hospitals etc.  They terrorized the citizens for over 40 years with their surveillance of mail, telephone conversations and normal speech.  I believe many Americans do not know how bad it was or they would shy away from what is happening now under the Obama administration.  Once your freedom is lost it is very hard to get it back.  Please, wake up America.  Today it is just a controversy about a word spoken a long time ago in anger, tomorrow there will be a deafening silence because we shall have lost our FREEDOM TO SPEAK!

  • Anonymous

What ever happened to ” Sticks and Stone may brake my bones, but names will never hurt me”? It seems we need to let the blacks go through the gauntlet that every other group ( Asians, Irish, Germans, Italians, etc) and let the word(s) that they find “offensive” burn out. To continue with this cookie jar preferential treatment with them, prevents them from truly blending into society.

Speaking of censoring, try writing some of the forbidden words in a post on a posting page and see what happens to that post.  I once wrote about words in a post that were not to be used in any writing, except maybe self-published novels.  In order to discuss the words realistically I had to list the words.  Or, at least, I thought I had to list the words.  It seems that I was wrong.  Some moderator – how is that for a power name – decided that the readers would just have to imagine what the forbidden words were that I was writing about and he (or she) decided to delete my post so that the readers would be protected from the written words I was discussing.  I’m sure that you remember that clever standup comedian who gave a talk on the words that could not be used on television. It shocked quite a few people that he used the very words he said that couldn’t be used in order for the viewer to understand what he was talking about.  Anyway that was a some time ago – he is dead now - and everyone of these words are used today in most made for adult audience programs.  I really hesitate to type any of these forbidden words in this post.  Why?  Because the entire idea I’m attempting to present will be either deleted or moved way, way back in the posting order by the moderator who moderates this page.  It appears that the word police have won the battle, at least on posting pages like this one.  At this moment, my post is the first one the reader can read on this posting page.  If I upset the moderator – even a little bit – this post will disappear completely or if it appears at all it will be, way, way down the posting list.  I kid you not, the word police may be looking over your shoulder in some office some where as you type your post for a posting page or a letter to the editor or, heaven forbid, to the president of the United States.  Gee whiz, golly, why even fight it, it seems as if they’ve already won the word battle, if not the war on words.

My Two Cents:  Paula Deen is human.  She made a mistake.  She is a great chef/cook; a funny person; a
psychological and culinary role model for many people.  She, like a million others, has used words
that are not so PC.  I am white; I
forgive her.  Almost certainly, 98% of
    non-white humans forgive her.  God
forgives her.  However, since we are all
being pulverized through the sieve of political correctness; this Nation is no
longer the Worlds “melting pot” a unique vessel of people working together to produce
the grandest feast on Earth.  We are now,
    merely hamburger.  Sometimes boiled,
occasionally fried, ever so often grilled and occasionally we’re stripped to
the bare bone and are nothing more than a pile of tartare or mincemeat with a raw egg on
top.  At one time, we were a well-seasoned
Nation of Grade-A Prime Beef, sometimes organic; most often, not; but we were
strong, we were ever-ready and always the first in the World to serve, to
sacrifice and always prepared to be a rock-solid platter on which to serve any
tableland around the Globe.  The current
Farmer tending this land is not a cultivator, a planter, nor a grower.  He is a citified, non-certified,
small-community, weekend Gardener without an ounce of agricultural acumen.  He is just a guy plunking seeds into a
window-box planter hoping to yield a Global Plantation.  If the Farmer isn’t fixed, nothing will
change and we continue our evolution into a populace who chuck our black-eye
pea recipes, empty our black tea canisters, toss out our chocolate, cocoa and
caramel foods.  No more white milk, white
sugar, white corn, white onions or black beans.
A mandatory blockade of Brazilian Nuts goes into immediate effect (I
cannot even put into print what these nuts were called by every person in the USA, when we
were kids …including American kids who were Black).  White bread, white flour, white rice… all
banned!  Bye-bye cauliflower.  Farewell whitefish.  Adieu, Betty White.  See you later Clint Black.  A final word of caution to all other “red,
yellow, black and white” people and/or foods groups …there will never be
    another Eden on
this Planet; deal with it.  Be on your
guard… the Farmer is on his way to organize a window-box garden in a community near
you:  Sit back and yield; or prepare and resist.  Finally; Food Network …a world of shame and
disgrace on your Channel!  Paula Deen:  Stand strong!
    Everybody else:  Let’s stop this
    crap!  ‘Nuff said.

What better “example” of “old white southern racist”?  The left has an absolute hatred for the south. A bigot mentality. So, they are “using” her to prove they are “right”.

I’m from the Jersey, I live in Georgia so I probably stereotyped also before I came down here. But this is beyond “stereotyping”….this is a mission to denigrate a region.

Let’s see, we call brown people black and pinkish people white. Nobody seems to think that either of these is an insult (of course, when I was growing up calling a “Negro” “black” was really insulting — which is odd because “negro” is just Spanish for “black”).

And “nigger” is not always an insult. When a “black” friend of mine addressed me (Caucasian/ Native American) as “Nigger” I took it as a compliment and sign of acceptance.

I was told decades ago now that the term “nigger” did not originate as a corruption of “negro” as most people think but was derived from “Negur” which was the name of  an African tribal group whose members were particularly undesirable as slaves. I don’t know why, perhaps weakness, indolence or unruliness.

By the way, “political correctness” is a concept inherited from the Soviet Union. You can draw your own conclusions as to the significance of this with regard to those who push it.

Amen to bitemeDC.  I was born in the South about the same time as Paula Deen and have family in Jersey.  Used to visit up there a lot in my younger days.  There was much more racism up there than I ever encountered at home (not to say there was none down here).  It upset me to see and hear it in the community then and now.  Paula is being punished because she is southern and that’s just about all I can say about it.  The early news stories on this were pretty straight-forward, but by afternoon of the same day, the story had been morphed into implying that she admitted using it, as in NOW.  It infuriated me to see this happening to her. Now, others are jumping on the bandwagon and ditching her, too (Smihfield).  I wrote to the Food Network and told them what I thought. I won’t be watching FN any more, either.

God bless Paula Deen for being honest in court.  A pox on those who are persecuting her.

You’d like the information Glenn Beck and his staff have uncovered to be wrong. But you can’t find anything wrong with it. And so you must make something up.  Obama and his ilk have covered up more crap than my cat.  Let’s face it… when you don’t have a point to prove, people like you resort to name calling… because it’s all you’ve got.

  • http://www.facebook.com/howie.walters Howie Walters

The Food Network, like all the other billion cable channels out there, have a teeny audience and every advertiser dollar they can make is important.  If their sponsors were going to leave the Deen show, what choice did they have?  Glenn’s right about not being fired for what you say, but that’s in fantasy land… where no outside influences hold sway and all other factors are equal.  But, they’re not equal.  Sponsors call the shots and if they feel she’s toxic for now, then the Food Network has to act accordingly.  If Deen has a product or service that’s in demand enough, another network will pick her up, or she can go podcasting.  It worked out for Bill Maher.  “We don’t care what you say, but feel free to say it somewhere else.  We’re not renewing your contract,” seems fair in the real world of free markets.

Well, that’s exactly what happened GG……she was honest in court. For that alone, she should be held in the highest of regards. I mean, as it relates to the current “culture”…

How many people, when asked under “oath” would abide by that “oath” these days.  I’ve thought about that a lot in the past few years….for me an “oath” is sacred….apparently for her too…I think that speaks to her moral character above anything else…

For myself, my parents never promoted racism….on the contrary…they were second generation Irish immigrants…I think they realized what bigotry did to our culture…so, I am proud of that….that they never used the N word and in fact…my mom used to say…”we are black people turned inside out”…

Also, Deen was fired, not stifled.  She can say whatever she wants; no thought police will go after her.  Her employer simply decided she was not needed, which is their decision to make, no?  They’re paying the bills, aren’t they?

Lastly, Beck has indeed made claims about Obama’s scandals that have not been backed up.  In fact, both the IRS and Benghazi have been shown to be non-scandals.  Beck deserves a little heat for making wild claims that he could not back up, and the folks who believed him should be embarrassed.

Glenn’s MO for making a case is mostly to take the exception and claim it as the rule.  But, in the cases of the IRS “scandal” and Benghazi, his demagoguery has been proven to be just plain wrong.  Beck’s views are almost invariably wrong, but he has a genius for the grand statement that seems to fool his audience.  Pity.

This entire idotic issue is the reason obama and the left can get away with stifling any criticism of their policies by crying “racism”. I personally cannot believe that Americans are still so mired in guilt that they even pay attention to this lunacy. Poor Paula Dean. She admitted to calling a black person a nigger, and frankly anyone who says they have not, white or black, young or old, is a liar. So what? Where does it say in the Constitution that you will not be called names? All Dean would have had to do it to lie like the Clintons, Obama, Holder, and the rest of the left by saying, “I don’t remember”, and she would have been fine. Or, she could have said that Bush did it. We have so many problems due to this administration, and we have to waste time with issues like this that are so trivial they don’t even merit comment.

The Food Network and other channels are private industries.  They can choose whatever they want to represent the image of their network.  If they want to fire someone that used the “N” word, it’s their right.  If ABC wants to fire Bill Maher for saying despicable things, it’s their right.  There are plenty of channels on TV for expressing politically incorrect views, e.g. Mayer goes to HBO, Howard Stern goes to Sirius.  FOX got rid of Beck because their ad revenue went down as a result of unpopular things he said.  But Beck found a way to express himself.  I couldn’t give a rats hiney about Paula Dean getting booted for using the “N” word.  That’s business, and I’ve been around it long enough to know it’s not always fair.

  • http://www.facebook.com/jules.p.guidry Jules P. Guidry

The hypersensitivity being displayed in this action directed at Paula Deen is patently ridiculous. That she used the “n” word in the past in a situation where the word was directed at a black man who fulfilled the definition of the word at the time, is understandable. It is also a term used by blacks to describe some of their own race.
Different standards for different folks? Of course. Get over it.
While I don’t approve of the word to describe anyone, I also don’t approve using the usage of the word in the past to persecute anyone.
Who did Paula Deen injure with her use of the word years ago? No one.

Mooochelle Obama, made a racial slur, at whites – calling them “whiteys” is that a racial slur? YES.  Is she racist? YES, is her husband racist? YES.  Soooo…why is he and she still in the WH? afterall, since Paula Deen got FIRED for making an honest confession about saying the N-word, in the PAST, and NOT on the show, it just goes to show you, how brutally unfair the “politically correct” bunch are!  one of the best cooks in America gets fired, while the Imposter-FRAUD-in-CHIEF remains in the WH!!!  with an AGENDA to destroy America, and oh by the way, obama likes to spark racial tension between the races, as we witnessed with the Trayvon Martin case, as the Main-Stream media lambasted us with that story for weeks, he and the MSM made a circus out of that story, up to the extent of calling – George Zimmerman – white – (he’s mexican and white).  The evidence showed that George Zimmerman was TRYING to defend himself, as Zimmerman was held on the ground, he had grass stains on the back of his T-shirt, and by the way – that picture of Little Trayvon, well he wasn’t that little teenager we all saw on the news, he was a 6′ 2, 250-lb, big bruiser, Trayvon was around 35 yrs old! and he had been in trouble before, and had a record, in short, he was a troublemaker! poor Zimmerman was in the wrong place at the wrong time, and to think he is in jail, for simply defending his life!  that’s how the so-called Justice system works these days!

The MSM, along with the FRAUD-in-CHIEF’s blessing went wild with this story, with the INTENTION to DIVIDE and create racial tension between the races!  IF that isn’t racist, I don’t know what is!  Wow, poor Paula, FIRED for something she said in the PAST.  At that rate, how many people would be able to survive that kind of scrutiny? held ACCOUNTABLE for past speech, which can and in her case, DID get her FIRED!  so much for Freedom of Speech, and honesty, ey?  This is just one more way the FRAUD-IN-CHIEF and the “politically correct” bunch are TRYING TO SILENCE people!!! I for one, will NOT ever be politically correct!!!  The day a person stops speaking their mind, is the day they lose their Freedom!  it’s way past time to IMPEACH the Usurper in the WH, posing as the POTUS!!!

Grumpymom, who has questioned PD’s right to free speech?  Her employer fired her.  She’s still free to say whatever she wants and work wherever she can, be a spokesperson for whoever will hire her.  I suspect there was more to it than racial remarks made years ago, however, especially since she was not forthcoming about her own type II diabetes.   I’m sure it’s sad for her fans, but it’s an employer’s prerogative in a capitalist economy, no?

This is also why rapper stuff is played.  It makes money, even if you find it offensive.  Glenn Beck, Rush, Levin, et al, they all make money, and I think they’re dishonest hatemongers. It’s a free country.

BTW, people who express Christian or conservative opinions are frequently shown favoritism by employers.  It works both ways – that’s human nature and market preference. Fox News hires unqualified journalists simply because they’re conservative. By doing so, Fox lowers  journalistic standards, which is bad for our country.  But, people are buying the product, and it’s their right to do so just as it’s McDonald’s right to serve cheap food.  Wouldn’t you agree?

So, are you saying that just because others are doing it or saying it, it’s okay to stoop down to their level and do and say the same things? That’s exactly what I see happening here. I agree that political correctness is destroying this country, but that is not the case here. This has to do with the loss of a valuable virtue called DECENY. Since when was it EVER okay to call anyone a derogatory name? This is just an indication of how low public morals have plummeted in this country.

Historically, the word “nigger” was used for ALL blacks, not just black low-lifers, as is presumed by so many posters here. It was (and, in many instances, continues to be) a word used to describe each person of an entire race in an extremely derogatory way, regardless of their actions or their character. The true issue here is, “Out of the mouth the heart speaks.” When people are angry or think no one is listening, their true, hidden, and often ugly, sentiments reveal themselves. As someone who wants to see REAL CHANGE in this country, I think change has to begin in people’s hearts – and on ALL sides. I don’t believe we will be relieved of any tyrannical powers until those heart and attitude changes happen.

Are you aware that the IRS situation involved auditing organizations applying for tax-free status under guidelines that required they not engage in political activity?  Groups with names that proclaimed political intentions were scrutinized, properly so, by the IRS office charged with that responsibility.  Scandal?  Yes, the fact that Issa was so dishonest about the information in the transcripts he had in hand is scandalous.  Politics at its lowest.

Except, that is, for Benghazi, where a tragic event was turned into a political investigation by cowardly congressional Republicans.  Benghazi is a scandal only for those who hate Democrats more than they love their country.

Read up on both of these incidents – and read with eyes open about the realities of both situations.  Find sources whose mission is not to present a case for or against.

No, the President should stay out of IRS affairs. The IRS was simply applying guidelines as they always do. You seem to have little imagination about the priorities of a President.

The Republicans have been investigating furiously and have nothing. A tragedy in Benghazi and an IRS following the law. Where’s a scandal?

I’m very proud of Obama – much better than I expected. It’s typical that some of us knew he would be re-elected and the Republicans were shocked when it happened. That’s what happens when you only believe what you want. Reality is tough on those who don’t have the honesty or guts to figure out what’s really going on.

Argument’s not flawed, I just didn’t support it in that particular post, and this was by intention. But, you can read in depth about both situations and, if you’re not biased, you’ll see for yourself that both “scandals” were created by the Republicans for purely political purposes and have been sold to the country via innuendo and half-truths. Benghazi was an act of terrorism in a nearly lawless land, and the IRS is entirely fabricated.

  • Marsha Hays

They will not silence me.   I think the main purpose of all of these exaggerated stories is to turn our attention on insignificant matters.  Paula admitted and apologized for a mistake she made 30 years ago and Edward Snowden is not giving away United States secrets that these other countries didn’t already know. What happened to finding the answers to Bengazi and the lies the IRS and Holden have told?  Those just slide under the rug while the man in the White House allows Jay Carney and some of his other spokes people to get up in front of the news media and tell more lies while he is planning yet another VACATION to spend more of our money.  Makes me want to throw up.  How disgusting can this get.  Gee Glenn, I really miss you on real TV.  We do stream you but somehow it felt like you had more clout at 5:00 everyday.
How much more of this with the American people put up with?  Taking away all our rights, freedoms and now even the things we enjoy.  When will it stop?

Then you’re saying, Marburyvsmadison, that the President and Secretary of State standing in front of four caskets and lying about what happened at Benghazi is fine with you?  And you aren’t embarrassed that the same lie was delivered to the UN Assembly by the President when probably the entire world knew it wasn’t the truth?  You’re comfortable with assuming that willingness to lie had nothing to do with the events in Benghazi?

What about the people who work with her or people in a work place who don’t want to listen to her or anyone’s nasty humor, what about their right to work in a comfortable environment.  That’s the law. Glen your being a hypocrite to me if your telling me Christ wouldn’t want a person to say something about anything that is evil.  The darkness is growing because people aren’t saying anything so it becoming acceptable behavior. I don’t believe this is just about the n-word, it is about her nasty humor she projects on her employees. She is arrogant and inconsiderate. People who don’t like nasty humor don’t care how you choose to live unless you are projecting your views on them. Keep it within your circle friends and no one will care.

Although I usually agree with you Glen, I have to say, on this one I don’t agree.
Public figures have a responsibility to speak properly, and not incite hatred against ethnic groups, or they don’t have the right to be public figures.

I agree. Pain in the Whazoo. I don’t get it. Why does a so called ‘brother in the hood’ call a White guy, “Honkie” and nobody says a ____ thing? And just judging what I’ve questioned in the past, I’ve been barred from making comments on ‘Yahoo’. I’ve been barred from watching videos on most sites including Glen Beck, too. I know the Govt is searching out politically opposed views/viewers and using our internet host to find out if we are in anyway politically oppose to this current administration. So, are we headed for slave or govt. termination camp someday?

Maarburyvsmadison- If you’re such a conclusive detective, why is there a dead U.S. Ambassador at Benghazi? Who’s gonna be responsible for that? Why was Hillary so eager to quit her job? Why are there so many suspicious unaccountable actions the Democrats avoid answering? Connect your brain. Who wants a suspicious Facebook pal? I’m not a Republican. In fact, I’m pretty fed-up with John McCain and Rubio. But I”m not a Democrat, either. Both you clown committees are screwing up our country. Let’s focus your pal, Holder, who likes to skip around answering pointed questions. He answers with phrases and subject changes. He likes the phrases Nixon coined, “Let me make myself perfectly clear”. The Obama does, too. And you Democrats punished Nixon. I’m just waiting for, “I am not a crook.” Both you Dems & Reps lie like hell and take my $$$!

That’s quite a rant from the comment I made. So hypocritical. We don’t want to force bakers to make a wedding cake for a same sex couple ( and nor should we.) but it’s not ok for the Food network to fire Paula Deen ?! It’s their company and they can do what they want. We can choose not to watch their shows or purchase their products..even write to complain. But it’s still their company, their choice, whether we like it or not.
And what has this got to do George Zimmerman ????  ( Who by the way, I also believe is innocent. )

My family from Texas still uses the term nigger from time to time.  I do not condone it, but I do defend the right of everyone to speak their mind.  I am sure we do not know the whole story on Paula Deen, but she is a hero in my book.  I am so tired of being forced to be PC that I have taken a vow to use terms I grew up with.  My mom and dad did not speak of coloreds that way, but they also did not say OMG and GD and S$#%t or the F word.  I find using the Lord’s name in vain far more offensive that saying other bad words.

This has nothing to do with free speech. Paula can say whatever she wants.

Prominent media figures (an non media figures alike) of all political stripes have lost their jobs for offensive remarks. And they also keep their jobs. Bill Maher lost his job at ABC. Imus kept his radio show. Lawrence Summers lost the presidency of Harvard over a stupid, offensive remark. Limbaugh can say just about anything and get away with it. Bottom line, Deen’s comments and behavior and the social uproar that ensued were and are bad for business. Conservatives can get on board with that logic, right?

Maybe you disagree with her firing? Write a letter to her former employer(s). Mobilize. Have a Paula Deen Day. Buy her memoir when it comes out. Watch her new show on the blaze. Money is speech. Speak with the purse.

As for those rappers you enjoy listening to so much, for better or worse, what they say and how they say it earns record companies as well as media conglomerates like clear channel and viacom, among others, lots of money. It sells. And it often sells for the very reasons you don’t like it. Moreover, it’s art, and in this country artistic expression is one of the last bastions of “freedom” for the non-politically correct crowd. Again, something I would assume conservatives would support.

    m vs m doesn’t realize there’s a difference between 501C3′s and 501C4′s, regarding political actions. The low informed voter might believe his rhetoric that nonprofits can’t be political, thus the IRS was doing its job. But the informed voter knows that;
    1) 501C3′s can be political and lobby but are limited in how much they do, and they need to be nonpartisan (like educational or voter registration), and
    2) 501C4′s aren’t as limited in amount of lobbying, and they can engage in political campaigning, as long as that’s not its primary activity.

The IRS admitted to targeting conservative groups, and they even used the word ‘target’ 12 times in one of their policy documents regarding this. The reason so many progressives think this isn’t a scandal is because they haven’t seen anyone fired or arrested yet (that’s how they measure their ethics -’if you can get away with it, it must be ok’).

  • Anonymous

You say, “the IRS applying guidelines as they ALWAYS do?” I beg to differ. And those who tried to file and were hit with intrusive and draconian questioning would tend to disagree with you as well. Funny how these were all people who were not in favor of this administration that were targeted. Actually, it’s not funny at all. You are decidedly blind to this or are unaware of what has transpired. Go ahead and be proud of Obama, but don’t in the same breath, challenge the honesty or guts of those who are NOT.

    Life Magazine | November 29th, 1969
… Sometimes he preaches on the legacy of slavery, and one senses that as he stands up there, his eyes ablaze, arms flailing, neck veins rigid, he is feeling every lash of every old whip. During these sermons Jackson sweats profusely, the only visible symptom of sickle-cell trait, a chronic blood disease that saps his stamina but which he ignores in the drama of the moment. Jackson talks about himself at these meetings. Once he told of his days as a waiter at the Jack Tar Hotel in his home town of Greenville, S.C. Just before leaving the kitchen he would spit into the food of white patrons he hated and then smilingly serve it to them. He did this, he said, “because it gave me psychological gratification.” It was something everybody in the audience understood.

Hmmm…. hypocritical – and how do you come to that conclusion?  gee thanks!  NOT !
Paula Deen was asked IF she ever used the “N” word, and she said YES, in the past.
She was HONEST, and for that she had to pay the PRICE!  costing her – her job!
Sooo…basically she is being called out on it – by getting FIRED for something she said in the PAST!  Wow, not only does the average person have to TRY and be “politically-correct” BUT they are NOW being held accountable for PAST speech to?  Wow, that’s a heavy burden to TRY and live under, all compliments of the oScumma administration, and the freakazoid LIBERALS out there!  via the trend of being “politically correct”!   I think they call it the heavy hand of tyranny!  must have lots of radical LIBERALS on the Food Network show.  They DO have the right to fire Paula, BUT that doesn’t make it RIGHT!  last time I check I think we have the 1st Amendment that DEFENDS – FREEDOM OF SPEECH!  I for one will NOT ever be “politically correct”! you can count on that!

I mentioned George Zimmerman because of how obama and the radical LIBERALS and the main-stream media (MSM) make EXAMPLES out of people. Paula Deen has NOW been made an EXAMPLE of what you CAN NOT say, in essence, she was PUNISHED by her bosses for speaking her mind, and EXERCISING her FREEDOM OF SPEECH in the PAST!  IF a person refuses to go along with the order of the Usurper – i.e. being politically correct, then they are singled-out and punished.  In the case of George Zimmerman, obama his administration and the main-stream media USED that story in order to incite racial tensions between whites and blacks.  That’s what the RADICALS do – it’s part of their socialist/communist/marxistmanifesto!  there’s always a pattern, you just have to educate yourself on what these people believe, say and DO, what they say, or don’t say, and what their AGENDA is!  then and only then will you realize what their true AGENDA is, which IS to take down and completely destroy America!

  • Dunweir

All of you Paula Deen haters that have her cookware, I will make you a fair offer on it. 10.00 for a set.

Oh for the love of God enough ! Not everything that happens everyday, everywhere is Obama’s fault. Paula Deen was fired Not because of MSM, not because of Obama..but rather it’s because that’s what the Food network chose to do. I don’t like it either..but it is their right to do so…Not the first time a celebrity lost an endorsement or job because of their actions, which have not always been illegal but rather a breach of morals clause. Contracts can be fairly specific…
And really ? Obama is now also responsible for all the hoopla with the Zimmerman case..because this is the first time this kind of race card has been played. Ever heard of Rodney King ? Same damn thing. Yeah, Obama has done his share of dirt , but when you blame him for EVERYTHING, you lose all credibility

  • Jeremiah Nierras

Since the Food Network is a privately owned company, they have the right to fire her. While I find that abhorrent, there is nothing I can do about it.

There’s a dead ambassador because it’s a dangerous world, Meddah, and we can’t always avoid the bad guys, especially in a place like Libya. Hillary Clinton took responsibility, because she’s a professional. Was Reagan at fault when 234 U.S. marines were killed?

As for suspicious/unaccountable actions, you’d have to be specific for me to answer you.

Question for you: the IRS “scandal” has been shown to be a non-scandal. Are you aware of that? Did you see Issa squirming and trying to weasel out of what he had previously implied?

The “scandals” are political, and people with a predisposition to believe conspiracy theories want to believe in them. If you understand how government works and politics works, you can see through the b.s.

  • Anonymous

IRS scandal. Agenda 21. Common Core. Benghazi.

    That’s four.

  • Anonymous

Uh…have you read the news lately, TC? Doesn’t seem like you have. The IRS has been proven by Issa’s own committee to be a non-scandal, and Issa is flustered and stammering and would be tarred and feathered if he were a Democrat and had done this to a Republican president. I knew this all the time, because as a “scandal,” it didn’t make any sense in the beginning to those of us who understand how government and politics intersect.

As to the honesty and guts of those who challenge Obama, I’m referring to elected officials who do so. The rest of us have our hands full with our jobs and families; it’s hard to keep up. But elected officials have a responsibility to know what’s really happening and not put personal or party interests ahead of the nations’ well-being, as most Republican legislators have been doing for the past 20+ years.

  • Anonymous

They’re investigating it as a political matter; this is how the Republicans operate, especially since they cannot govern – as we were shown clearly from 2000 – 2006.

As to part preference, I prefer those who think pragmatically rather than ideologically and who understand that public policy and good governance in a complex industrial democracy requires both empiricism as well as moderation and compromise. When the Democrats behave this way, I favor them. When Republicans do, I favor them. At the national level, however, Republicans haven’t had their heads on straight since they turned on Bush I in 1990.

Richard, you’re making a lot of (nasty) assumptions there, aren’t you?

I think I contribute far more than most people who post here, because I go against the stream and question the status quo on this site. My views, opinions, evidence and tone generally elevate the conversation. I can support any point I make, have posted regularly for about a year and have yet to be proven wrong, in my opinion, although most people here don’t share my opinions. I try to make people question their previously unquestioned views and dig a little harder to support their them, read more sources, think through their positions with less emotion. I think this is the most healthy type of debate, especially for the Beck crowd, who seem to use the site more for purposes of emotional catharsis than reasoned debate. I think if we all take a deep breath and realize we’re citizens of the same country and can exchange ideas/express differences of opinion without rancor and personal accusations, we’re all better off.

I’m sorry if you don’t find this grown-up. I think most people do.

    Note to Bbarnicle:

A 501(c) (4) organization may not engage in political activity acc to IRS written guidelines. A few decades ago, the IRS for some reason changed enforcement policy and allowed this status to organizations involved in politics as long as it wasn’t their “primary” activity. This meant the IRS had to determine what portion of a petitioner’s activity was political. Thus the legitimate need to obtain information about groups with names that were overtly political.

Also, since the Citizens United decision, 501 (c) (4) status became more important as a way to finance political attack ads without revealing the names of the donors. Political groups from both sides jumped to take advantage of this but, as usual, the Reps were more prominent in this than Dems.

You may simply address your arguments to me, btw.

Yet another rambling reply which has absolutely nothing to do with what I said. But I will try one more time. Paula Deen was fired by the networks and her sponsors. And, they had every right to do so whether we like it or not. Obama had nothing to do with it.
And before you go hanging a halo on Mrs Deen, you might want to check out her interview on station WTMI in Atlanta. Hers a little excerpt for you.

“Yes I did, Dave,” Deen responded. “I made those Jews all this money and
they still stabbed me in the back. As soon as it looked like their
profits would be affected, they told me I was no longer needed. That’s
    Jew loyalty for ya’ll.”
“It is heartbreaking but not surprising to see these sponsors leave me,”
she said. “Target, Walmart, (diabetes drug maker) Novo Nordisk, Caesars
Entertainment, Smithfield Foods. What do all these companies have in
common? They’re owned and run by Jews.”

So after that, what company is going to hire her? So maybe her past speech got her fired. But her current speech and apparent attitude are likely to ensure she stays unemployed. Makes me wonder about the sincerity of her apologies earlier.

It’s my belief we could’ve dispatched a rescue team in time to retrieve the few that were at Benghazi. An ambassador is a pretty heavy character. But the president choose not to be disturbed. Hillary took responsibility? Hillary just said, “Good luck” and quit her job. Why did she quit her job? Not because she wanted to keep her image intact for the 2016 elections.

I’m sure we could’ve expedited or applied some effort. The difference was time. The stuff that made your wrinkles appear, whiskey age and your dog happy when he’s learned a new trick. The factor that someone was still alive and there was a window of opportunity for rescue. The 234 U.S. Marines died. Pardon me. But our Ambassador was still alive.

I don’t think the IRS issues are a non-scandal. Nothing’s conclusive yet. If Lerner’s pleading the 5th, draws some suspicion she has something to hide. Wait bud, it’s not over yet.

Sure ‘scandals’ are political. But your neighborhood supermarket could have a scandal going against it patrons. Some churches have scandals. Maybe your neighbor embarked on a career with your other neighbor’s wife and her bank account. That’s a scandal, too. ‘Scandal’ is a broad term. It could be military. It’s shallow to gullible. Better to say ‘public’ than ‘political’. If you believe everything you hear, I’m sorry for you. Don’t sell yourself short to one dimensional on issues your Govt, is implying. If you trust your Govt. why aren’t we in a better place?

You want to know what I think about Benghazi? And 234 dead Marines, Iraq, Afghanistan  and Vietnam? I think the prerequisite for a govt. political office is 2 years active duty in a Army or Marines combat unit. No doubt some politicians don’t know the value of freedom let alone life until it’s in their face. Women, too.

I know a great deal about how govt works and how news is reported. I’ve listened to and read from both sides for decades, in depth, books, articles, attended live lectures across the spectrum from Ann Coulter to Colin Powell to Bill O’Reilly to Tommy Franks to a symposium of military and reporters who participated in and covered the Iraq war.

Re Libya, it was a lawless country without a military, and Benghazi is far from where we had a military presence. Second-guess is foolishly easy, and blaming the President simply betrays bias and ignorance. Those in charge closest to the scene made the call.

Re the IRS, the scandal is clear, and as usual, it’s the Republicans who are behaving badly. Issa lied about his evidence, misled the country. He should be run out of town on a rail. But he won’t be, because he’s a Republican and talks tough. Beck and his ilk spread the same b.s. Shame on all of them.

The way the media and politics work is that the Republican/Right wing noise machine scream so loudly that people who don’t know better think someone is happening. Both the Clinton and the Obama administrations have been relatively efficient and honestly run, esp compared to W. Bush. For the record, Bush I was also a good President. The sickness that pervades the Rep party began when they tossed him under the bus for being sensible and raising taxes. Low taxes for wealthy people and damn everyone else – that’s all the GOP today stands for. If you want anything else, you’re being used.

If you want 2 years of active duty as a prereq for office, you don’t appreciate the nature of our government. Military experience counts for military matters. What about everything else?

Meddah4. That’s a pretty quick response. What do you do for a living?

    You say
you’re cognizant of how Govt. works. Then you should know an act of war is an
executive decision. And yes, those in charge made the call. The small group in
    Benghazi returned fire.

    Libya
is a lawless place and if you’re right, the Administration knew it, too. They
don’t choose hazardous places without reason. What kind of reason would prompt them
to do that? And does that make the Administration exempt from defending the
    U.S. compound at Benghazi?

    We have
rapid deployment forces that are trained to react to those kind of situations.
We don’t pay taxes and train troops just to call them ‘special forces’. They
are trained to react throughout the whole world. No sir, there was time.

    It was
also election time. Such a wonderful time! Obama campaign speech and debate
spoke, we’re winning the war in Afghanistan, Al-Qaida and the Taliban are under
control (which is not true) and he needed to keep his foreign policy intact.
The less the public knows, the better.

    Yeah,
you say you know how the loud mouth Republicans are, is almost an ambiguous
statement. Democrats aren’t much different. What truth is the mouth of either
    one?

    Where
do get off that Bush was good? He did his best to involve the U.S. and all our
Allies in a war. Saddam didn’t have a nuclear arsenal. Oh sure, he villainized
his people and maybe it was a good idea to get rid of him. But he had nothing
    nuclear.

    Did he
have gas or biological weapons? He may have. Evidence shown he had little if
    none at all.

    No sir,
we went to war because of big oil. The same reason we’re defending the Syrian
rebels. Big business, the banks, Energy that’s who runs Govt. You say you know
government. Then you must know government is broken.

    The
U.S. dollar. That’s what’s at stake. That’s why we’re headed into Syria. Right
now, we’re defending the U.S. (oil) dollar as the basis of the world monetary
standard. A few countries like Iran, Syria, India and Russia want to change the
world monetary system to the gold standard (China wanted to, too but Obama
hedged them off by giving them our rights to Iraqi oil). If that change happens,
it’ll be a long, long time before the U.S. will be out of debt. Maybe never.

    The
rights to the oil in Iraq the U.S. fought and died to get belongs to China and
    now we’re pending another war.

    What
does wanting 2 years of active duty as a prerequisite for public office have to
do with my appreciation of Govt? I told you. If you understand what it is to
fight for it, you’ll know how to treat it. Freedom and not some facsimile like
capitalism (which turns out to be big business).

    Yeah,
maybe you’re right. Maybe I don’t have much appreciation for our Govt. Maybe my
service in the Army & Vietnam is meaningless. Maybe surviving 2 ammo dump
explosions was for nothing, right? You don’t need to answer that because I know
what you’re going to say. “You should know, Meddah4”.

    Issa.
You’re not an IRS agent, are you, M&M? Maybe I should leave Bellingham, now
    and go across the border.

You didn’t address your reply to me, Karen, so I only just saw it.

My answer to you is that no one lied.  Events were unclear real time, Libya is anarchic and lawless and there was plenty of fog of war.

Why don’t you try reading about it from real journalistic sources, people who know how to investigate the news and try to make sense of our world rather than to sell cheap and lurid stories.  These sources exist, they’re not as well-known because reality tends to be more gray than black/white, so it’s generally less emotionally satisfying – at first.  On the other hand, if you prefer the cheap, Marvel Comics version of things, stick with Beck, Fox News, et al.

Yes, this was a tragedy that the Republicans and their media messengers have shamelessly milked for political gain, at the expense of our country.

B S, this site is “owned” by Beck, you may not like that, but it is a fact. This site can be moderated by the owner, in any manner which they see fit. It is NOT public. It’s the same as a business having the right to refuse service.

Meddah: your latest diatribe made little sense, so it’s hard to respond logically. This is the difficulty I find in responding to most folks who post on Beck’s site. They’re full of emotion and are looking to spout off; they’re not looking to exchange information or ideas.
Benghazi was the kind of tragic incident that happens in a dangerous world. We do our best, and shit happens sometimes. End of story for those who understand how the world works. Your opinion comes from far, far away. You weren’t there and don’t seem interested in anything besides blaming folks you don’t like.

Re freedom and military service – what a load of self-centered crap. That’s solipsism. We could just as easily say that only people who have been slaves understand freedom. Maybe only Black people should be able to vote. Jewish culture is based on the meaning of freedom; maybe only Jews should vote. Women couldn’t vote until the 20th century; maybe they understand freedom better than you. Maybe people shouldn’t be allowed to vote until they understand history and have studied logic. We’d have very few voters in this country.

Get it? Each of us has a viewpoint based on our life experience, and each person’s opinion is of equal value. There is no single experience that makes us better citizens, more aware of the meaning of freedom or more qualified. Your military service is admirable, and your apparent bravery is impressive. But they don’t convey any additional ability to understand how our country works.

Why do you think no one is talking any more about the IRS “scandal”? Because there never was one. It only became an issue when the Right-Wing Noise Machine went into overdrive and blew so much smoke that folks figured there must be a fire. That’s how the media works.

    M&M Hello.
I’m selfish. Right. You sir, are erroneous. You’re a smart, more intelligent than the average patriot and you know it. So you made yourself a little hobby of humiliating and politically beating up people who have little or no political prowess, who comment just to vent their frustrations. You love this. Rather than to see them just as yourself, you insult their integrity. Sort of like the neighborhood bully.
Benghazi. I should treat this as you like to ‘blow smoke’ about Issa. Everyday it gets worse. Morsi, Obama’s great friend in Egypt. News breaks say he’s behind the Benghazi. In your favor there’s not enough proof of this. It’s only alleged because supposed Egyptians arrested at the site claimed he sent them. Obama’s administration still wants to send aid  to Egypt regardless, rather than wait to find out the facts.
Issa. So what? The IRS is reporting improper targeting of Tea Party and conservative donors by themselves! In a conference call to reporters, acting head of the IRS, Danny Werfel said he discovered a wide range of improper terms and lists screeners were still using last month. He discontinued the use of what he termed ‘inappropriate criteria’. And Lois Lerner attorneys say she’ll testify under terms for immunity. Like I say Bud, wait. There’s more to come.
Last month also, a Bill past that was unnoticed by the average citizen taxing purchases on the internet. What was the name of that Bill, Mr. know all about Govt.? This Bill will give large retail corporations leverage on small internet businesses. Retail corporations can now apply the same competitive tactics they used to drive small home and businesses and retail companies out of business.
Aah. Sounds like a Republican and conservative strategy. So why are the Democrats behind it? Tell me your political prowess. It’s because you’re not looking at the big picture. It’s not about who’s responsible in office doing what. It’s about control. Who’s controlling what and why are they doing it. You’re smart. Why are both parties so bent on taking that neat little .38 in your desk?
Govt. takes your money, taxes it in as many ways it can, takes your gun, takes the Constitutional rights, shoves the NSA down your pants and plans to put you life on par with the third world countries. What are you looking forward to? Your new Facebook friend?
Obama. It’s amazing how he can say the war on terror is in control. Such Bravo Sierra.
I remember he said when he got elected in 2009, he’d get the economy back up on it’s feet in 4 years. 7.8 unemployment doesn’t even account for those who quit looking and those who retired because they couldn’t find a job. Why don’t you look up who holds the record for the most people on welfare, something you and I pay for?
Freedom has everything to do with military service. It’s because you’re saturated with the idea the troops fight for everything but freedom. You think it doesn’t cost you anything. That’s too bad. Many gave their lives for it. You have no idea, nor have the fortitude nor understanding about what it means to have to fight for it. Oh, I know. It’s too late to talk about that, right? We don’t send troops over seas for that, right? Apparently, you think you can just send people to duties overseas and not be accountable for their lives. Where do you get off about those who vote? I never said anything about voting. Anybody can vote. Stay on the subject, Mr. Smart Stuff. I was talking about public office. To be responsible for what belongs to the people, the lives they live and the freedom they have.
Obama. He said he’d bring our troops home in his first 4 year term. Make a promise. Keep it.
Immigration. Did you know that Hispanic organizations teach illegal immigration how to navigate the welfare system? Yeah, I think I can be a little angry about that. Your attitude isn’t so ‘in control’, either.
The difference between Rush, Glen and you is they’re getting paid for it. You’re not.

I appreciate your lengthy and interesting response. Let me see what kind of reply I can offer.
I didn’t and wouldn’t call you selfish. That’s personal, and I only know you through your ideas.
“Self-centered” refers to the way you view your personal experience as the best/only criteria for public office. In fact, a healthy democracy requires many different kinds of life experiences and viewpoints. there is no one best way.

It’s interesting you recognize that I beat up intellectually on Beck’s followers, but this isn’t bullying. Participation in this open debate is voluntary, and it’s healthy to have your views challenged. Any intellectual advantage I have has been duly earned through years of study and painful life lessons. To point out the obvious, I post on Beck’s site, rather than on Media Matters or the like, because I want the challenge of opposing viewpoints. Most people who post on Beck apparently seek the comfort of confirming opinions and validation. I view that as intellectual & emotional masturbation. It may feel good, but that’s because it’s easy, there’s no risk, no reward. Since you’re a veteran of military combat, you know how that works. No pain, no gain. Do you think I should, out of respect for a person’s feelings, accept an erroneous, illogical or unsupported opinion made to “vent…frustration”? It’s more respectful to correct them and show them how their frustration is misplaced. Besides, we’re all in this together, and it’s better for all of us when someone challenges the toxic b.s. that Beck and his ilk shovel. Anyway, most people here think I’m an arrogant jerk, but I’d guess some of them are struck at some point by their inability to respond to my arguments.

To make a broad response your many opinions, e.g. Benghazi, IRS, corporatism, immigration, Obama, etc., I think you’re misinformed on just about every issue. Understanding how something as complex as our sociopolitical system functions calls for more than knowing some facts; it requires an investment in learning as much as possible, along with the ability to organize facts logically and hierarchically to paint a big picture in more dimensions. When you’re aware of only certain facts and don’t examine the context, it’s the proverbial case of missing the forest for the trees. This is how Beck, Fox “News” and other Right-wing media deceive so many good and trusting people. They lie egregiously only when necessary; mostly they mislead through selective fact and false context. Watch – you’ll see the IRS “scandal” disappear (since it’s all based on a misunderstanding about the role of the IRS to begin with). But they’ll find something else to try to sell to those who already hate Obama and seek somewhere to invest their prejudice and anger. Probably will fail, because Obama’s been a damn good Pres.

If you’re interested, I can suggest some sources to go to get a different, more in-depth look at all of this. If not, sorry. Just understand that my goal is to get people to think, nothing more.

Really?  You’d be embarrassed?  Because your other option would have been to vote for CryptKeeper/HockeyMom and have been responsible for the utter demolition of any credibility this country had after Dubya was finished undermining it worldwide.  To be embarrassed for voting for Obama is to suggest that the other option might have been better, which any honest person with half a brain in this country knows is a lie.  No one could suggest feeling guilt or shame over voting for Obama without some seriously warped reasons, because logic would never lead an honest, open-minded person to have voted McCain/Palin in ’08.  The same argument goes for ’12, when he was running against Mr. Smithers (excuse me, I meant Mittens).
