Mom’s epic open letter to daughter goes viral: ‘Let Miley Cyrus be a lesson to you’

Get Glenn Live! On TheBlaze TV

It’s safe to say parents everywhere cringed as 20-year-old former Disney star Miley Cyrus ‘twerked’ on stage in a barely there outfit during the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday. One mother, however, made her opinions known in an open letter to her daughter titled: “Dear daughter, let Miley Cyrus be a lesson to you.”

On her blog, Kim Keller writes:

Dear daughter, let Miley Cyrus be a lesson to you.

Yes, this is what happens when you constantly hear everything you do is awesome. This is what happens when people fawn over your every Tweet and Instagram photo. This is what happens when no responsible adult has ever said the word “no,” made you change your clothes before leaving the house, or never spanked your butt for deliberate defiance.

If you ever even consider doing something like that, I promise you that I will run up and twerk so you will see how ridiculous twerking looks. I will duct tape your mouth shut so your tongue doesn’t hangout like an overheated hound dog. I will smack any male whom you decide to smash against his pelvis – after I first knock you on your butt for forgetting how a lady acts in public.

Why would I do that? Because I love you and I want you to respect yourself. Miley Cyrus is not edgy or cool or sexy. She’s a desperate girl screaming for attention: Notice me. Tell me I’m pretty. See how hot I am. I know all the guys want me. All the girls want to be me.

You probably know girls who will emulate this behavior at the next school dance. Don’t do it with them. You are far too valuable to sell yourself so cheaply. Walk away. Let the boys gawk and know in your heart that they see only a body that can be used for their pleasure and then forgotten.

I’m sorry if you’ve ever felt sad because I haven’t gushed over everything you’ve done. My role is to praise when praise is due, but also to offer constructive criticism and correction when it is needed as well. I’m sorry if you’ve ever felt demoralized because your Instagram following isn’t in the thousands, and I’m sorry those “selfies” can never capture how amazingly beautiful you truly are. I’m sorry if you’ve ever wished you had a friend instead of a mom, and I promise you that I will probably get worse when you hit high school.

Dear daughter, I am going to fight or die trying to keep you from becoming like the Miley Cyruses of the world.

You can thank me later.

“I think that’s one of the best letters,” Glenn said on radio this morning. “That is a super mom. That is a super mom. And that is a mom we need to have on the program, because I think… if that daughter does not appreciate her mom now or won’t in the immediate future, she will in the end.”

Many here will remember the outrage over Elvis and his gyrating pelvis. Or how Little Richard’s “flamboyance” send many into a tizzy fit.
Remember the Beatles and the anger they riled up in Christians? There has never been a time when young artists didn’t shock and anger stodgy, older people.

“But it gets worse every generation”, we say…
Yeah, it does. It pretty much has to.

But what Miley did was positively mild. Marliyn Manson has been known to rip Bibles up on stage, and mimic wiping his butt with an American flag.

And there’s a band out of England called “Cradle of Filth”. (The name refers to the baby Jesus in his manger.) They first grabbed attention by selling t-shirts that’s bore the slogan, “Jesus is a C*nt.” You’ve probably never heard of this band, but many young people have. The band has sold millions of albums worldwide; their first album sold over 600,000 copes here in America alone.

Or the former band out of New Orleans called, “EyehateGod.” They weren’t as rowdy as the name would suggest, but the music wasn’t exactly easy listening.

So if you’re outraged at Miley it’s only because you’ve been safely sheltered from the actually outrageous stuff that goes on in the music industry.

We need to bring back home town values back to the heartland, start companies with a conscience, listen to artists who actually have talent standing in front of a microphone with nothing more than a guitar and a great voice. Teach our future generation to have pride in their accomplishments, not in what is dictated on reality TV. We need to come together as a nation, and put our country back to work, and spend quality time with our families-not in front of a TV or a computer but at a kitchen table over a home cooked meal. I fight everyday to build my small brand that has a heart, and gives back, because I can make a difference-yes one person can-so eat dinner together tonight, help a neighbor, hold a door, say hello to a stranger, give a second chance- and remember we are lucky to live in the land of the free and the home of the brave America!!

I have heard of them.  What upsets me about Miley is that she was allowed to start this behavior while still a young teen.  There are rumors of her drug use.  Billy Ray touts himself as a Christian.  So he should have shown some Christian values and not let his daughter get so pimped out to Hollywood.  Miley, unlike these other bands, has/had impressionable young tween girls as her fans.  I remember how my mother reacted when at age 13 I tried to be Joan Jett.  Thanks Mom, for being a mom and not my “friend”.

I let my daughter read that letter. She has no idea that Miley Cyrus performed that way because we don’t watch television. ESPECIALLY  MTV . We told her that we felt sorry for her.  She agreed.

As one of our wise Church leaders said; “No other success can compensate for failure in the home.”

Miley certainly demonstrates the failure in her home, by her “kicking over the traces” of a moral  and circumspect home. On another post, Glenn talked with her dad, who wanted to be a “friend” rather than a disciplinarian father, and it was her mother who did the disciplining. Well, we see which parent had the greater influence now, don’t we?

Sad to see the failure of our children in today’s society.

    Sad, sad….

On another note, another failure in our society — Remember Benghazi. Who said, “Stand down.”?

Wow!  Another Mom – just like I was and who
will also be a GREAT Grandmother!

The one word America has forgotten is SHAME:

    Not many years ago:

Girls were hidden away in convents to birth their illegitimate children.

Girls wore skirts down to the knees out of respect for their bodies.

Men withheld foul language in the presence of women.

    Living together was considered shameful.

    Divorce was shameful.

Child predators were either put to death or killed by other prisoners.

We were not forced to watch tampon commercials or erectile dysfunction ads.

Law makers and politicians were held to much higher standards of living than today.

Going to church was a cornerstone for families and especially the American President.

Walt Disney himself would have pressed charges against the wicked minds behind Disney studios today.

Yet, as long as we continue to feed the Beast…the Beast will continue to devour us.

If I remember right. when Miley started behaving badly, her mom told her father to butt out. I think he has wimped out because he is fearful. I am not excusing him, he needs to be told to ignore mom and do what he thinks is right and what his rights are as a father. Myabe he is fearful he will look like Baldwin yelling at his kids.
Saying just one wrong thing, can send a person on the wrong track. My mom told me that dad and her were wondering why I didn’t date, when I was 15 years old. I told mom because the only boys that ask me out — I know they are just looking for sex. My mom returned later and said that dad told her that it was normal for boys to act that way. The message left me with the thought, that is the way all boys are and there was something wrong with my thinking.
My mom and dad should have told me; good for you, don’t waste your time on anyone who doesn’t respect you. Be picky, and wait for someone who respects you. I don’t believe my parents were intentionally wanting to lead me in the wrong direction. This is all they knew, parents are a product of their upbringing to.  I thankfully did not ever get as messed up as Miley, I just dated guys that treated me like I was stupid and didn’t deserve respect. My self esteem was hardly existent. I still battle with resentment when I encounter S.O.B.’s who challenge my integrity. I am a senior now, and overcoming my fears and growing in the right spirit.
Someone or someones got a hold of Miley, and it looks like to me, she has been ridiculed for being a nice girl and she is trying to kill that image. Those people should be prosecuted.

Just because we don’t like it doesn’t mean we are “sheltered” from worse filth. What’s wrong with pointing out these screwed up things when we find them? Should it really matter what the scale of the depravity is? Would you rather have us ignore something just because it stands relatively smaller than other things do? Your fussing over nothing.

Parents have only so much influence.
    My parents were church-goes, didn’t smoke, didn’t drink, didn’t cuss….
Yet, I’ve spent many a weekend immersed in drug- fueled, bisexual orgies with other married couples.

    Really “balls?”
    The “Jews” ruined Miley?
Jews make up only 1.74% of the population of the United States and Jews are only 0.2% of the world’s population.
I know numerous Jews, Conservative, gun toting Republicans, who are outraged and sickened by this obscene, demonic behavior. In fact many of these “Jews” will NOT let their children watch TV, no less watch obscenities like MTV.
Yes, there are “Jews” in the music and the entertainment industry but there are many MORE “Christians” in the industry, running the industry, targeting and selling this filth to a hungry public who is made up mainly of so called Christians.
What you are seeing is atheism, a rejection of God and His Laws. Don’t blame the moral decay of a nation on the Jews. Blame it on the forces that have been quietly but steadily at work in this country for decades.

Last week I commented on the breakdown of morality and how this breakdown will lead to the fall of a nation. Most on Beck favor my observations as I was an astute student of history which I used as reference in my fiction. Some do not. If you want to know what is out there write about a “moral standard” on the CNN or MSNBC comment blog.

About half of the comments will be a snarl. The epic problem is as I stated last week, the breakdown of Generation X has now led to Generation Y. I can take this back to the 60s “revolution.” A revolution in which we were doing pretty much fine. Civil rights of women for equal pay was a valid issue as well as the ending of the idea that Ray Charles could only play to whites. Real issues and I’m glad they were addressed.

Then we ran the vehicle off the road. An era of no morality needed at the door.

That group went through divorce in the 1980s on a massive scale. Children were X who pushed the envelope and then created Y. The envelope was torn to pieces by the time Y came around.

The immoral do not like being told so. Think of when it was suggested that Newtown,CT was a direct consequence of the breakdown of morals. They bore the fangs. Like the tantrum of a child caught stealing a candy bar. He doesn’t listen to reason–just angry he got caught.

Think back 30 years ago and picture Miley Cyrus. Never would have been. Actors may have been vulgar possibly but they at least kept a clean public image. Vileness is now vogue. Imagine what their children will be like.

Then try to argue we can continue as a nation.

I never let my girls watch that either, now I have Granddaughters and times now are worse than when my children were growing up.  Not only is it hard on the girls the boys have it rough as well.  There is also a lot to influence them as well.  Be strong – parents and Grandparents….it will pay off in the long run.

sex like vomit and a bowel movement is a natural function, one usually pleasant and the others no pleasant, all exists, no matter, we need not see all, and if we elect to see sex, well guess we could watch porno.  the other two natural functions to visualize I don’t think there is a market for.  How humiliating not only to the parents of this young woman but to her parents as well. and most probably this episode of bad judgement will come back later  to haunt Miley Cyrus, let alone when she has daughters, what a poor example to set for them

  • Charles Hurst

Actually I’ll take the values of the Jews with the traditional Christian. Hardworking, family oriented and value oriented.
Fly, I think it is more a concept of amoral vs immoral like I have stated before. Amoral is even more dangerous–you can repent with immoral, with amoral you have no set idea of values at all.
As stated above, dangerous times my friend.

Congratulations to this Mother.  I remember telling my son “I am not your friend, I’m your mother.”  I also told him I had an obligation to God to raise him right.  Believe me, he is 29 now and we have a great relationship.  If we do parenting when our children are home and “teach them in the way they should go,” when they get older we can enjoy being their friend.  Funny how God works like that.  To all you mothers out there, don’t be their friend.  Teach them the right way.  Praise their accomplishments, accept their failures, and punish when needed.  They will thank you for it later.

This letter sums up what motherhood is supposed to be. You’re not supposed to try to be your child’s friend – you’re their parent. A completely different relationship. True love means challenging the person you love to be their best.

When I was a girl, my parents were so good and they would talk and LISTEN at dinner and they would say that each generation does some wacky things in youth , to outdo the one before – it’s supposed to be fun. But the wacky outdoings were never illegal or violent or borderline for public prostitution ads.   They say “anything goes” but it does NOT … there is a line. Miley Cyrus is a person and she is selling all  the wrong thing, and that is too bad because she is skilled, talented and when youth look up to her, she has a responsibility to give good example without being a nerd or hypocrite about it.  What do think all the money if for? She is taking all that cash and NOT doing the job and they very dynamic is what it is all about!  Fix it.

I could not have spoken more eloquently than Kim Keller did with respect to her letter to her daughter and Miley Cyrus.  My daughters are 14 and 17 and when my girls spoke about Miley Cyrus after the VMA awards I realized that I am doing right by my daughters in that they can distinguish the difference between a Professional and a “Pig”.  How sad, my daughters grew up watching Hannah Montannah.  I too believe it starts with the parent, but Miley is 20 now.  How about gratitude from all the young fans and parents that supported you through the years Miley. Billy Ray Cyrus and Tisha where have you been in guiding your daughter at such a young age and channeling that success?   I do applaud the families who can balance family and hollywood.  No matter what profession we choose in our life we have an obligation within our profession to be the best that we can be.  Famous or not!

Excellent letter, Mrs. Keller. As long as there are parents who love their children, raise them to respect themselves, and are willing to tell them “no” when they need to hear it, there is still some hope for America.

  • http://AskHuldah.blogspot.com/ Maidservant Huldah

I read the letter again today. What is ironic here is that the mother says she herself will probably get worse when her daughter hits high school. That means she feels the need to be telling her daughter these things before that time ever comes.

That caused me to remember a link that came through the other day. This is even more disturbing than what is going on here.

This “booklet” schools can promote for young children include teaching masturbation, and a host of other things.

All I know is this, Jesus said:

Mat 18:6  but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.

Not only do we parents have to “teach our kids better”, we have to fight off the perverted minds who are supposed to be protecting them!

Even just replacing the extra duplicate messages with “Sorry, double post” saves space and having to load more pages.

  • Watch it

It doesn’t work that way. If you “dethread” a post, it only shows up that way on your own screen. It doesn’t prevent anyone else from seeing that “dethreaded” post.

I do see the post which I dethreaded has appeared.  What’s the

point of having the ability to dethread a post, Watch it, if it really

doesn’t STAY dethreaded?   Waste of time.

  • Watch it

I know – all it does is make it disappear for yourself, and only for the time you are on. Next time you go to the page, it’s all back. Maybe they think it will help concentrate down a page if a user wants to limit his interaction with just a small group during that sitting? Just guessing. Disqus does some strange things. I wish they would add some useful things, like being able to selectively block a follower stalker while not blocking everyone.

Nice letter, BUT is this not the state of affairs we have been led down by all the marginal type stuff from the movie and music industry. From the rap to violence in view, really the whole entertainment industry as a whole . teaching, showing, exposing. So when occurs as it does every moment of our lives. Its sad everyone is so upset and out of sorts. I agree its not part of YOUR lives but this is reality. don’t like it , change it, that starts from the way you vote to where you put your kids in school , who you put your kids in school with . Balking at religion , which only seems appropriate when this arises. So you keep COMPRIMISING , it has come to a point that this is the norm and such as this should not offend anyone. What’s the difference between Miley , to Nicki , K Perry really any of the singers living on the fringe. Its money  and that’s what pays the bills,  The edgy the better . Its always the money and how far they push the envelope. Yet we keep voting in a more liberal base at every turn , its cause and effect. live with the new norm its from these liberal actions you now have what you have . Liberal sex, guy marriage, free abortions, liberal judges, liberal politicians, the  hate speech, civil rights that is still on the hot seat, we can go on and on . BUT THIS IS THE RESULT OF OUR CULTURE, WE CREATED THIS . NOW LIVE WITH IT or CHANGE IT. BUT don’t whine and moan and cry this is our creation .

Miley is a young adult, no one act should define her or her career.  She made a bad decision and will learn from it and move on.  No parent knows what their child will do or should be held responsible for things an adult child does.  Kim doesn’t know Miley’s parents well enough to make statements about their parenting.  As parents all we can do is hope that our children will take the values we have tried to instill in them well into adulthood.   We have to let our children know we will love them no matter what mistakes they make.

Miley Cyrus is a good example of a sexy young girl that will be used and discarded.

An open letter to the mother who
wrote the open letter to her daughter about Miley Cyrus and twerking…….

Though I am certain that your words
are well meaning the issue is your long term memory. I truly fail to grasp why
parents have this veil of forgetfulness that comes over them when it comes to
communicating with their kids. Do you have selective memory of when you were a
youngster? From your looks you seem a lot younger than I. Yet I refuse to sugar
coast my youth and my relationship with my parents and their views towards the
    culture of my youth.

No, my father did not understand the
Iron Butterfly, the Beatles or Rolling Stones. He let it be known that the loud
insane music, long, shaggy hair and free love mentality of my generation was
not of his approval. Our bell bottoms, sideburns and Elvis’s provocative hip
movements were going to be the ruination of generations to come. In fact it was
a clear indication that Armageddon was only hours if not minutes away. Yet Mick
Jagger is still rocking and music has evolved……..

But there was a flip side to my dad.
The side that instead of writing open letters to me brought me into a world of
watching the Kennedy/ Nixon debates, man’s first landing on the moon, bringing
me into discussions about world events. Poverty and in that time of the George
Wallace Alabama filled with KKK marches and burning crosses and “For Whites
Only” signs, yes I heard about racism.  And
those are the discussions that molded me into an adult. It was not the rants about
music and entertainers and pop culture. Those are passing fads.

Might I suggest that you go back and
review old photographs of yourself and your school friends from back in the
day? Was it the way you danced or the way you wore your hair that made you who
    you are today?

I find too often that parents focus
on the wrong things when communicating with their kids. Instead of simply
ignoring what they should know the children. When grown, will chuckle at as the
silliness of their youth and hopefully remember that mom and dad spoke to them
about world events, our place in real history instead of pop culture history.
Will your child be able to share with their grandchildren that they remember
the swearing in of America’s first dark skinned president? Or will they only remember
how mom and dad hated the man? Will your children remember the decisions our
government made and where it took us? Or will they grow only to be focused on
the pop culture of their youth- because that is what mom wrote to me about?

Grow up and be a parent!! Be an adult
and teach your child about adult things and allow them to be silly and
youthful. The silly and youthful parts will keep them forever young and the adult,
real world things you, as the adult, focus on will mold them to make better
decisions about matters that truly affect the lives of others, health care, environment,
famine and fossil fuels. At the end of the day that is what matters- not what
we wear or drive, not how we dance or who we have sex with. Those things will
not solve the problems of the world. How you dance, who you date or marry, how
you wear your hair and how many tattoos you have will not cause pain to anyone,
will not starve anyone or cause disease for millions. Superficial moms create
    superficial children…….

To add: Miley Cyrus is an entertainer just like Glenn Beck is an entertainer……

#1 job for Fathers- Love your children (a lot goes into that). #2 job for Fathers- the prevention of STUPID. You can’t outrun or outlive it- STUPID follows you to the grave. Too many females, not enough women- females have Mommy parts, but used “for entertainment purposes only”. Very few Men- soon, our Nations Elders will all be greasy haired hippies with saggy peace sign tats. I will not pick up their check when I see them in a restaurant.

From what Ive read, Her father praised her for her act. That tells me a lot about him. That weve not hear from her mother tells me she is probably not pleased at all.

You say” just change the channel”, but its like that all over tv now! Im sick of having to change channels all day. Me, Ill just open a good book, but kids wont. they will grow up thinking this is normal.

    “Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven;
Does the Mom know Miley? do you Glenn?  Do you not remember Madonna on MTV sing “like a virgin” or Christina singing “dirty” or Brittany….

The Mom should have been writing to Robert Thicke with his misogynistic singing and video objectifying women.  Miley might have been crude, but she owned that stage and certainly turned Robert thicke into the supporting act.

BTW wasn’t she raised in a super Christian family?

THANK YOU!!  I was thinking the same thing about ALL those ‘business’ ads.

THE RUNNINGWOLF EZINE will now add
comment. In addition to writing a letter to her daughter I would have written
a letter to Miley’s father, Billy Ray Cyrus. It would have gone something like
    this:

         Dear Mr. Cyrus,

In the 2013 MTV Music Video Awards the world
witnessed your daughter Miley in a staged performance which shocked the nation
and world due to its vile content, which in best scenario was extremely obscene
and indecent and at worst mildly pornographic. I felt the need to inform you of
your daughter’s behavior as it would be impossible for me to believe that you
were aware that your child was acting in such a repugnant manner.

             Miley entered
the stage with less clothes on than your average streetwalker would wear on the
local corner. This is troubling in itself as your daughter is already a
sexualized icon at her very young age. Not to mention as a representative of
the entertainment industry the example for other young girls is reprehensible
at best. This is not the first time she has acted in such a deplorable manner
as her last debacle was a rendition of a striptease act not long ago for her
adoring fans. In this performance she went above and beyond, however,
simulating the act of actually having sex and sticking her tongue out in the
manner of someone giving oral sex.

             Days after
the fact it seems that she is not only non repentant for this vile behavior but
adamantly defends it stating we are all “over thinking” it and that her desire
    was “too make history.”

             Well, Mr.
Cyrus, she certainly has. She has shown the entire world that she has the
attributes of a common street hooker. She has tarnished the name of Cyrus, a
name to the country singer, Billy Ray. Country music, remember, Mr. Cyrus? God,
morality and traditional values of the common American. She has shown that even
country based folk are descending into a Sodom
type depravity which is now accepted by the youth of America as commonplace.

             I am certain
you had no knowledge of how your daughter had been acting in the last few
years? Because if you had you certainly would see the end result for her, much
like others who promoted the mentality that caters to the degenerate. Names
like Kurt Cobain and Brittany Murphy come to mind. And Lohan is certainly doing
well these days, isn’t she? Because it could be construed if those above had
parents that had intervened on decadent behavior early on possibly these
entertainers would have lived less destructive lives. I imagine Lohan will be
joining her two colleagues soon. Because every parent knows that if a child is
taught no boundaries then only catastrophic consequences will surely be the
    result.

         Wait a minute, I
    stand corrected.

You did know of your daughter’s prior
behavior. The lewdness. Vileness. The rendition of a stripper in one of her
prior performances. As a matter of fact, your daughter’s persona has only been
growing more and more vulgar since she left Disney. Isn’t that right, Mr.
    Cyrus.

         You see the
problem, Mr. Cyrus, is you are exactly reflective of the great Generation X,
aren’t you? You know, the 1980s youth ME generation that didn’t believe in
morals? And now you have taught it to your children. Oh, do not take all of the
credit, Mr. Cyrus, half of the country of your generation follows in your
footsteps now, don’t they? We respect all now, don’t we? And after all she is
still your little girl, isn’t she, just like you said.

         No, Mr. Cyrus,
she is not your “little girl.” I have thought about what word to place to
describe her as I attempt to be civil to everyone. But the only suitable word I
can find is the one that fits.

         Whorish.

         That’s right, Mr.
Cyrus. Your daughter’s antics are that of the above word.. And do you know why?
Because like most of Generation X you
raised her that way! The “nothing is my fault and whatever generation” you
produced, right? Well, you certainly have “whatever” now, don’t you. You have a
daughter who resembles a the above on national television. Your parenting
    should be applauded.

         You have a
daughter that is like many daughters and sons now of the now Generation Y.
Vile. Repugnant. And the decent parents are fighting a war to keep their kids
away from the ideology of the loathsome animals that you have produced.

         And what is sad
about this is you had more than most. You had everything, Mr. Cyrus. The finest
of schools for Miley and everything life had to offer. And I’m sure you earned
it. And then you twisted it to produce that pitiful excuse of a daughter that
you have. All you had to do was be a decent parent. If I were a parent and my
daughter was starting to show signs of the monster that recently walked across
the stage I would have pulled her from Hollywood.
You see, I would have cared enough to forego the vileness that many times goes
along with fame. I wouldn’t have let Miley become the public concubine that she
now is. But who listens to us, after all, we are the silent majority now,
    aren’t we?

         Ah yes, sit on
your money Mr. Cyrus. Enjoy it and tell Miley too as well. Because pain is
coming to you, sir. Don’t believe me? Ask Kurt Cobain. Or Brittany Murphy.
Their vile lives went well now, didn’t they? And you will see it, my friend.
Because one who lives like Miley will have destruction in the end. She will end
up on drugs. Divorced. A collection of chaos will surround her. She may even
join Mr. Cobain and Miss Murphy. And you will deserve every bit of pain coming to
you. The responsible party will be staring at you in the mirror.

         Our nation is
    falling, Mr. Cyrus. America
will let Miley continue on because she, her vileness and vulgarity, reflects
who we are now. We are not on this earth long. Your dollars will buy you not a
single extra second. It would be poetic justice for this country to fall before
    you reach your deathbed.

        So you can reflect
in your final moments that you and your like were responsible for it.
