Obamacare has been called many things in the three years since its passage but “small” and “modest” never seemed to be part of the rhetoric… until now. On radio this morning, Glenn played a clip of Congressman John Conyers (D-MI) calling Obamacare a “very small and modest bill” during an appearance on Democracy Now!
CONYERS: To think that you would have so many members, 144 in the House, 18 in the Senate, who would say well, there is nothing wrong with shutting down the whole government, not raising the debt ceiling, and really hurting the credit rating of the largest, most powerful country in civilization. And it’s just unimaginable the actions that they would turn to to get their way on a very small and modest bill, Obamacare…
“A very small and modest bill,” Pat asked. “If by small and modest, you mean –”
“The largest in American history,” Glenn interjected.
“And incredibly outrageous and ridiculous,” Pat continued. “Oh okay, John. It’s only $2 trillion and just one third of our economy.”
