The Context
A bill is being considered in Congress that would allow U.S. courts to hold countries responsible for any role they may have had in 9/11. The Obama administration has lobbied Congress to block the bill's passage due to Saudi Arabia's threats to sell off $750 billion in treasury bills in an attempt to avoid their assets being frozen in the face of litigation.
Truth and Consequences
The truth often comes with unintended consequences. In the case of 9/11, is the truth important enough to brave the storm that will follow?
Monday on The Glenn Beck Program, Glenn dissected the intricacies of this delicate balance.
"All those 9/11 documents that we have had person after person who has actually seen them in Congress, in the Senate, they've actually seen the documents, they've seen the real report, they all come to us and say, ‘Saudi Arabia was involved, and people need to know it.' I think we need to know it. But you don't just say that without understanding what that means," Glenn said.
Can America Handle the Truth?
America is in debt as a nation, and debt enslaves you to a master. One of our masters is Saudi Arabia.
"The other side of the Saudi Arabian coin is they're one of our banks. People don't understand the treasury bill. The treasury bill is basically a loan. When we say we're $19 trillion in debt, what we've done is we've gone to countries who act like a bank to us," Glenn explained.
Loans aren't inherently bad, but taking money from a bad source will have bad consequences if things go sideways.
What a T-bill Dump Looks Like
What does it mean to have Saudi Arabia dump treasury bills? Glenn explained what it would look like if nations started selling off our T-bills --- and it's not pretty.
"Now we're so far in debt that nobody knows if they're going to get their money back," Glenn said. "Our oil and our gas companies and our coal companies will be darn near out of business. Many of them already are. We've had enemies now made all around the world. And our debt has more than doubled," Glenn said.
He added sarcastically, "So, who wants to be the president of the United States?"
Common Sense Bottom Line
Declassifying the redacted 9/11 commission report will consequences. If Saudi Arabia follows through with its threat, it could destabilize the American economy.
"The question is not whether or not we should allow Saudi Arabia to be held responsible in our courts. If Saudi Arabia played a role, the American people should know about it," Glenn said.
The real question is are we ready for the consequences?
