The Story Behind Weeping George Washington

All this political correctness… it’s just the mask of civility. It’s not real civility. We don’t really care about each other.

I think that would make George Washington weep.

You’ve seen this painting hanging in the background during my show for a while now. Finally, it’s time to share the story behind it.

Rarely do I hang up my artwork. Painting is a passion of mine, but it’s the process I enjoy most and I usually don’t put my finished works on display. I scrape them clean or paint over them.

But this one, I decided to keep working on.

It’s based on George Washington’s life mask. As the face began to take shape, I decided to write the word “civility” at the top, a word that really spoke to him.

Then, a thought struck me.

The mask… The mask of civility. That’s really where we are.

For a limited time, we’re offering a small number of special edition prints, totes and cell phone cases featuring my first completed portrait.
