Glenn Beck: March to Socialism

GLENN: Yes, comrades, as we march off to socialism many people will say, "Oh, Glenn, what kind of fearmonger are you. What, you don't like the furry hats with the red star on it?" I say, comrade, of course I do. I just want to mark our place in time. And here's the latest. A new Rasmussen report telephone survey found -- you ready? Dan, if I asked you how many Americans, what percentage of Americans would oppose the nationalization of our oil companies, Americans, what would you say is a reasonable number? They oppose it.
DAN: I would say 90? Only crazy activists would be on the other side of that.
GLENN: Yeah, it's a little, a little lower than that. A little lower.
DAN: 82?
GLENN: No, a little lower than that.
DAN: Gosh. 75?
GLENN: A little lower. We're talking about nationalizing, national -- doing what Chavez did in Venezuela, nationalizing the oil companies.
DAN: Somebody who could find a way to lose money in the oil business, I think the government could do it.
GLENN: Yeah.
DAN: I'll go down, 60%.
GLENN: 60%?
DAN: Yeah.
GLENN: A little lower than 60% of Americans that would oppose nationalizing our oil industry.
DAN: It can't be below 50. I think I'll --
GLENN: A little lower than 50.
DAN: No.
GLENN: A little lower than 50. It's actually 47% of Americans are now opposed to nationalizing our oil industry. And I think that is, seriously that's fantastic.
By the way, in a completely unrelated story, front page of yesterday's Wall Street Journal, my favorite quote from Barack Obama. He cited new economic forces to explain what appears like a return to older style big government Democratic platforms skeptical of market forces. He said, "Globalization and technology and automation will all weaken the position of workers." Hey, workers of the world, unite. "It will weaken the position of workers. He said a strong government hand is needed to assure that wealth is distributed more equitably."
VOICE: More overwhelming evidence that we have destined to be a bunch of socialist pigs very, very soon. On the Glenn Beck program.
GLENN: Is that socialist figs or pigs?
You know, here's the thing. Could somebody just call up and just say, hey, Glenn, really want to socialize the oil companies because the government is so good at... fill in the blank. Go ahead. Just give me one thing. Give me one thing the government is really, really good at. Anything. Throw it my way. Go ahead. "Oh, defense." Really? Really? Have you forgotten about the $400 hammers and the $700 toilet seat? I know as a private businessman I've never purchased a $700 toilet seat. Maybe it's just me.
