VOICE: The Glenn Beck program presents more truth behind America’s march to socialism.

GLENN: We’re marching right to socialism. That’s so crazy when people say that, marching to socialism. How irresponsible. You know, the Cato Institute has this terrible habit of noticing how government is getting bigger and bigger, regardless of what party’s in power. They just released a report yesterday keeping the tally of this country’s march to socialism. And when I say march, it’s not really a march. It’s more like a gold medal Olympic Sprint. Maybe that’s just me. Our budget is now $3.9 trillion. That’s double what it was eight years ago. Think about what that means. If we could somehow against all odds impossibly cut the government spending by 50%, we would only get back to where Clinton had it. Yeah. Yeah, but tea parties are all about Barack Obama. No, seriously they are. You know, Clinton wasn’t exactly known for his Reagan esque spending cuts. Remember Ronald Reagan said we needed to get rid of the Department of Education? Well, under Bush, Department of Education spending actually doubled. But it’s not just the amount of spending that has skyrocketed. It’s almost the amount of ways that you can spend it or the government can spend it. In 1980 we had 1,123 different government subsidy programs. This is under Carter. 1,123. Reagan came in and actually cut the number way back. Remember he wanted to starve children. He hated government spending. He cut that number from 1,123 to 1,013. Wow, what a hate monger. Now, that might not sound like much until you look at it in context. Then you realize, wow, that’s pretty impressive.

Midterm, George H. W. Bush not only had the amount go up from 1,013, he actually passed Jimmy Carter. Jimmy Carter had 1,123. George H. W. Bush had 1,176 ways he could spend your money. Government subsidy programs. After that the government really stopped trying to act like they even cared about it. You know, Bill Clinton increased the amount of giveaway programs by 21% in eight years. Then George W. Bush came in, you know, that hate monger that all hate mongers love because he wanted to starve children to death. You know, everybody anybody who was at a tea party loved George W. Bush because he wasn’t out of control with his spending. George W. Bush came in with his compassionate conservativism and added 27% more programs on top of Clinton’s 21% of increases. The result? We now have 1,804 federal subsidy programs. That is 78% increase in the last 23 years. The report says we are in the midst of the largest federal gold rush since the 1960s. Unfortunately in the 1960s we actually had gold. Can you believe these crazy nut jobs who are saying that we’re on the march to socialism and gigantic oppressive g overnment? It’s crazy!
