God made covenants with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob concerning their posterity. This posterity became divided into tribes – the twelve tribes of Israel. The tribes became wicked and turned away from God. The Babylonians came and carried ten of the twelve tribes away. The remaining tribes were known as the Jews. The Jewish people do not comprise the totality of the tribes of Israel. After the Babylonian captivity Israel was rebuilt and Christ’s ministry came around. The Jews rejected and crucified Christ. The Jews were brought into captivity and scattered throughout the “world” by the Roman Empire.

In recent contemporary history the Jews began to gather again in Israel and Israel became a sovereign nation. But the Jews are not exclusively Israel! They are certainly part of Israel, but not all of Israel – according to biblical history of the Old & New Testament.

So to say that the Jews of Israel are THE chosen people is both scripturally and historically inaccurate.

Regardless of historical accuracy, yes – we should stand with them.

Also Glenn – you misuse the word covenant here. I cannot covenant to do these things – who am I covenanting with? Where is the contract? I cannot of myself design covenants with God. God designs the covenants and I fulfill them.
