Celebrating a doom and gloom free weekend!

Friday, March 6th, 2009

I have a “great depression calculator” to see how far along we are to greatly being depressed which I had to update this morning because of the awful new job numbers.  At some point I’ll do another post explaining it, but my fancy excel sheet says we’re 27.4% of the way to the depression.  That’s of course, if everything starts turning around today.  Fun times.

So, let’s be more happy, and talk about television.  Here is my pick for the most underrated couple on television today:

Selma Blair and Mikey Day from Kath and Kim.  Dude! They are so solidly stupid on this show.  And Selma Blair eats like Glenn.

Speaking of which, watch Glenn on Fox News tonight, as he will reveal the War on Chins.  It’s important television.  Trust me.

Also, don’t forget to check out the season 3 premiere of Not Just Another Cable News Show featuring stupid comments from me.  Here’s a clip:

HUGE BREAKING NEWS

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

The CEO of NBC has admitted that Keith Olbermann's show is an opinion show!

“For most of its day [MSNBC] is the rest of the front section of the newspaper and then brings an editorial point of view from its editorial page at 8 o'clock at night,” NBC CEO Jeff Zucker said.

Now, if Keith will just admit it.

By the way, remember when Keith said this?

“If at this late date, any television network had, of its own accord, shown that much video tape and that much graphic video tape of 9/11…it, we, would be rightly eviscerated at all quarters, perhaps by the Republican Party itself, for exploiting the memories of the dead, and perhaps even for trying to evoke that pain again. If you reacted to that video tape the way I did, I apologize. It is a subject of great pain, for many of us still, and it was probably not appropriate to be shown.”

Less than a week later, his own network showed constant 9-11 footage for the anniversary. So, I tuned in that night to see Keith really rip them a new one. Unfortunately, he had been pre-empted for “as it happened” coverage of 9-11, featuring essentially unedited footage of all the events in real time.

I assume he had to move his criticism to the next night, which I missed. If someone out there has the transcript of his twelve minute special comment about his own network, can you send it my way? Thanks!

American Idol: And the winner is…

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

I didn't watch American Idol too much this season, but I wanted to see the winner announced anyway.

It was on my friends DVR — we were watching the end of the Red Sox—then flipped over to the DVR to watch Idol on delay.

(ADD MOMENT: Carrie Underwood!!!!!!!)

Anyway, here's the announcement of the winner as I saw it—and I would think everyone with Time Warner Cable watching on Tivo in Manhattan saw it as well.

Since Idol went over on time, the DVR pops up that message at the end of the recorded video. Meaning, we didn't see the last name.

(ADD MOMENT: Speaking of Last Name—that was the name of the song Carrie Underwood sang. CARRIE UNDERWOOD!!!!!)

The video gets cut off in between the first and last name, in a competition where both people have the same first name. What are the odds?? While this is a horrible job by Fox and Idol—I will forgive them. Why? Carrie Underwood. CARRIE UNDERWOOD!!!!

(ADD MOMENT: My new column in Fusion is about the 3 best celebrities in existence. Judging by this blog, guess who is number 1?)
