Glenn’s must read of the day

On Today’s Program

Glenn’s 2 new must read books

Glenn had an exciting weekend doing what approximately .000018% of Americans do for entertainment on the weekends: read history books. But, that’s why Glenn is here, to do the hard lifting so you don’t have to. Well, that’s not entirely true, Glenn wants YOU to get yourself informed with these two must read new books. The first book is New Deal or Raw Deal by Burton Folsom Jr. - it’s about FDR and the legacy of the New Deal and how it has just been turned on its head. And the other must read is Meltdown by Thomas Woods - it’s a great primer on what happened, where are we going from here and it’s filled with great stats. Glenn interviewed one of the authors on today’s program, Thomas Woods. (Transcript, Insider audio)

Mandatory salary caps coming?

FDR once capped salaries at $25,000 and anything made over that was, he felt, excessive, therefore he decreed the government would take it off your hands at a nifty tax rate of 100%. Sounds crazy, right? Barney Frank is supporting the idea of spreading the $500,000 salary cap for CEO’s who take federal assistance money to ALL U.S. companies. Yes, this is the hope and change we signed up for, trillion dollar spending bills and salary caps – depressing, no? (Transcript, Insider audio)

March to Socialism – remember when?

Remember when you thought $700 billion was a lot of money? Those were the good old days, weren’t they? That’s chump change now. Remember last year they just raised the debt ceiling to 10 trillion and Democrats were saying "We have got to stop this outrageous spending!" Well, how much have we (they) spent since October? $9.7 trillion. Even though that’s only enough money to pay off 90% of all the mortgages in America and we’ve had a ‘mortgage crisis,’ we are going to stimulate the economy in other areas, like green technologies. Wouldn’t it just be easier to pay off almost everyone’s mortgages? Don’t answer that. (Transcript, Insider audio)

Stu Blog

It’s Stu’s birthday today, but he’s still slaving away for you, the American blog reader. In today’s blog, Stu links to an amazing chart that clearly illustrates the government has no chance of properly managing a trillion dollar spending spree. Check it out here.

Scientists say ethanol (formerly good) now bad

Just a few short months ago, as gas prices were soaring, politicians and scientists alike were sounding the alarm ‘we have to start finding alternative fuel sources—ethanol is great and it’s right here at home!’  We were assured that it would be wonderful for the environment, which was a good thing since we were planning on burning our food in order to get it – but scientists have re-opened the debate on ethanol. Is it as good as they said it was? (Transcript, Insider audio)
