We Surround Them – phase 2

We Surround Them – 2nd step

You’ve read the 9 principles and if you agreed with at least 7 out of 9 then you sent your picture to wesurroundthem@gmail.com and have been waiting for the next step. The principles won’t stand if the people don’t have values, because if the point is We the People, if that’s how this whole system was designed and if the ship is going down if you really, truly believe in the people, well, then power to the people works both ways. The people also are responsible for the downfall. We must have values and here are the twelve that Glenn believes are most important. (Transcript, Insider Audio)

When God is not the center…

As part of the ‘We Surround Them’ project, this email newsletter is highlighting stories that exemplify times when one of the principles or values could be put to good use. Today it’s principle #2 – I believe in God and He is the Center of my Life. We’ve become a society so focused on the bottom line that we allow stories like this one to happen in California. They are looking at mass releasing prisoners (to save the state budget) and justify the increased crime (150 extra homicides and 500 extra rapes) this way from the New York Times: ‘while those crime numbers sound bad, letting out the prisoners is more or less a wash from a societal cost-benefit perspective’ and ‘the money we save from freeing the prisoners is on the same order of magnitude as the pain and suffering associated with the extra crime.’  That’s the kind of logic that seeps into life when we are not God centered. Obama’s tax break…$13?

Remember that big tax break Obama talked about on the campaign trail, the one for 95% of all Americans? You remember, the one that would save us from this tough economic time? Well, the details are finally released and now it’s pretty clear why they didn’t release the details before the election. $13 per week is what people who qualify are getting. That is $676 bucks for the year! Don’t get too excited though, because next year it drops to $8 per week. Glenn talks to an ‘economist’ about the benefits of the plan. (Transcript, Insider Audio)

>>Guess who was on Colbert? Glenn is a fan of the Colbert report—but it’s a little tougher when you are the one in the hot seat, like a certain cable news host was last night.  But if you can’t laugh at yourself then who can you laugh at? Watch the laughs at Glenn’s expense here.
