Plague mice

President Obama said he will ‘restore science to its rightful place’ because scientists know everything! Well, almost everything. It seems that scientists don’t know how to keep mice with the bubonic plague from getting lost or stolen. But seriously, what could possibly go wrong with plague mice on the loose? March to Socialism – ‘A’ for effort?

From the New York Times – an article about the sense of entitlement that’s on the rise with students. They feel all they need to do to get a ‘B’ is attend class. For an ‘A’ they have much tougher standards: they have to show up and listen to the lectures. That sounds like a great idea – we wouldn’t want you to earn it or anything. We wouldn’t want you to be oppressed under the tyranny of a competitive, capitalist atmosphere. Ah, kids. Where do they get such crazy socialists ideas anyway. It’s not like there is someone in authority promoting socialism – oops, never mind. (Transcript, Insider Audio)

We Surround Them – Principle #4 The family is sacred. My spouse and I are the ultimate authority, not the government.

California is not going through a pleasant economic time right now, and those who put their faith in the government to bail them out are paying the price. What happens when someone puts family first – puts the responsibility of their success or failure squarely on their own shoulders instead of waiting for someone else to take care of you? It works! Diane in California says that her family recently made a decision that they were going to do what it takes to become self sufficient. Not spending what the government wants you to spend, not letting your kids be solely taught by others what’s best for them, not getting into a crazy mortgage because the bank told you it’s okay. And amazingly they aren’t begging the government for scraps. Diane proves that you are not alone because after all – if common sense like this can thrive in California, anything is possible.
