What Tax Day Tea Party will Glenn be Attending?

On Today’s Program

The recession is good for your health

Ben Sherwood, author of The Survivors Club, says yes, conventional wisdom is that recessions are miserable for your health.  One frequently cited statistic: For every one percent increase in the unemployment rate, you can expect to see 47,000 additional deaths because of heart disease, suicide, murder, and excessive drinking.

More recent research says that recessions are actually good for your health.  A one percentage point increase in unemployment “decreases predicted fatalities by roughly 0.6 percent, or around 11,000 deaths annually.”  The main reason: Fewer people working means fewer people are on the road.  In turn, that leads to fewer accidents and deaths.  In addition, when unemployment goes up, people smoke less, eat more healthily, and exercise more.  They have less money to waste and more time on their hands.  How’s that for lemonade out of lemons? We must be getting pretty healthy then

New job numbers are out:  663,000 lost jobs, and the unemployment rate hits 8.5%.

Don’t worry though, Barack Obama’s budget is here to save the day.

Glenn Announces His Tea Party Plans

On April 15th, Glenn will be at the tea party in San Antonio—right in front of the Alamo.  (Not the rental car place, the actual Alamo.)  Glenn will be speaking—and if you’re anywhere in the area—please come and let your voice be heard too. The Alamo is the ultimate symbol of the backbone of this country.  Note from Stu: “Not to mention, many scenes from Cloak and Dagger with Dabney Coleman were filmed in the area.  So, that’s pretty cool.”

Speaking of Taxes

A new Stu blog today: a new poll definitively shows that people have no idea what they’re talking about.  Take this multiple choice quiz to see if you can figure out how this is happening.
