Were you happy with your medical two years ago? Did you feel like you had sufficient access to healthcare? Well, Nancy Pelosi said that even if everyone were happy and covered, the government still would have had to take it over.
Pelosi said, “If everyone in America was very, very pleased with his or her health insurance and had no complaints and had access to quality affordable healthcare in our country, it still would have been necessary for us to pass the healthcare reform bill because we could not sustain the system.”
Great, right? It works great in Canada. Michael Moore even made that one movie about it.
In some of the “best audio ever,” a Canadian caller to Rosie O’Donnell’s radio show talked about how wonderful universal healthcare was in her country because the only had to wait seven years to get elective surgery. She said, “In Canada we have universal healthcare, which is wonderful, but I have been on a waiting list for seven years.”
Ok, so maybe universal coverage means you may have to wait a little longer to see a doctor, but at least it saves the country money. Nancy Pelosi even said, “So, to say we're going to repeal it is, just as has been said by my colleagues, is to do very serious violence to the national debt and deficit.”
Again, not so much. As Stu pointed out, “Quick stat to point out here. I must do it. Canada pays a higher percentage of their healthcare costs out-of-pocket than you do in the United States. The percentage is higher in Canada than it is here.”
The happy ending to the story? Glenn said she might only have to wait another two years to see the surgeon.
Glenn said, “And the idea here, the choice that America has is individual choice, individual freedom, your right to pursue happiness as you see fit or will there be somebody telling you what to do and make the decisions for you? Nancy Pelosi has said that even if you are happy with it, they must make the choice and you see what the choice is. It's seven years in, you know, in Canada to wait for surgery. Well, that's fantastic.”
He added, “It's individual choice or government control. Government control will not win. Government control, it may win temporarily. It may be taken over. You may lose your freedoms, but in the end it doesn't work. It doesn't work.
