Glenn was out at a doctor’s appointment for the first hour, but Stu and Pat were filling in on radio this morning. The duo started the show off by going after some of the media outlets that have been attacking Glenn – well, attacking him more than usual.
Yesterday must have been attack Glenn in the media day, as Pat pointed out the media did everything but set Glenn on fire (violent rhetoric!). “It was Glenn Beck bashing day, I guess? I missed the official announcement but apparently all the liberals got the note,” Pat said.
“Well, it was a day that ended in Y,” Stu joked.
The attacks centered around The New York Times article which blamed Glenn for threats against Frances Fox Piven by anonymous bloggers and commentators on internet message boards.
But, as Mediaite wrote, the New York Times did not reveal that one of their main sources was funded by a man who has targeted Glenn, George Soros. “Beck was most angered by the fact that the Times quoted from the Center For Constitutional Rights, an organization with ties to and funding from Beck's arch nemesis George Soros, yet failed to disclose the Soros connection.”
Stu continued to read from the article, “Absent clear evidence that Beck specifically demands viewers take violent action against someone, then any claim or insinuation that Beck incites violence is utterly baseless, especially when threats of violence come from anonymous commenters on Beck's website.”
Stu said that Glenn and his staff struggled with how to address the baseless attack from The New York Times. “If Media Matters comes out and says something, we just ignore it. It's silly and adorable. But when you have something like the New York Times coming out,” it needs to be addressed.
“It's not about defending Glenn as much as it is defending the ideas, defending the people you're associated with,” Stu explained.
Before going into a break, Stu and Pat said that the goal of the show is to arm the audience with information so they can defend themselves and their ideas from the same kind of baseless attacks as those perpetrated by The New York Times over the weekend.
