It’s always interesting when a liberal calls into the show. Sometimes it sparks interesting, thought provoking debate, and sometimes it turns into an “Arguing with Idiots” segment. Today, there was a caller who fell into the latter.
Glenn took a call from Josh, who wanted to debate the three-fifths clause and Michelle Bachmann’s statements. However, when Glenn started to ask him some basic history questions, the caller couldn’t answer and started to accuse Glenn of misdirection and ganging up on him.
“Who was John Quincy Adams' protege? Who was the one that he took under the wing and said, ‘Listen, you have a chance of really being able to change things.’ Who was it?” Glenn asked Josh.
“This is a good tactic,” the caller immediately responded rather than trying to answer the question.
“To ask somebody if they know history? That's a good tactic?” Pat asked.
“You're asking me a question here before I can even make a comment. None of that even matters. We're talking about Michelle Bachmann and also Sarah Palin making all these false historical statements,” Josh said.
“For one, they did not work tireless to abolish slavery. They wrote it into the Constitution,” Josh claimed. “Where they said people like myself, three fifths of a person, that means you're not even human.”
Well, Glenn rebutted him by pointing out some contradicting statements he was making. He said that the three-fifths clause was racist because it didn’t count slaves as full people, but also saying that abolitionists wanted slaves to be counted as zero.
“Is it the history that you called up and said that three fifths is racist because it doesn't count a person as a full human or is it what you said once you got on the phone, that abolitionists wanted it at zero to stop slavery?” Glenn said.
“It's not going to work. You can do whatever you want. You've got the radio. You've got to button. You've got to switch. You don't want to hear what I've got to say,” Josh complained.
“I'm going to try. I'm going to do everything I can, Josh. You cannot move on -- Josh, Josh, listen to this one point and then I'll let you yammer. Listen to this one point,” Glenn said.
“No. You're doing all the yammering right now. You won't even let me make a sentence and then, when I try, your buddies butt in, too. So, I can't argue with three people,” Josh said before hanging up.
“He knew he was trapped, but that's where it -- that's where question with boldness even the very existence of God comes in, question with boldness and then hold to the truth. When you find the truth, if it proves you wrong, so be it,” Glenn said.
