Glenn will have more on this continuing story tonight at 5pm ET on FOX News
News broke during the radio show that Mubarak was going to step down today as President of Egypt. The news was, and continues, to unfold, but Glenn gave his initial reactions on radio this morning.
Upon first hearing the news, Glenn said:
“Mubarak, NBC is reporting Mubarak will step down tonight. This is significant. Once you have a win, once it ‑‑ this has been my theory, that if they see movement ‑‑ and remember I am not a fan of Mubarak. I am not a fan of supporting him. I am not a fan of how we've supported, I'm not a fan of how does a guy make $70 billion for his family, $70 billion in a country where the average person makes $2 a day. This guy's a dirtbag. And I hope to God we have not welcomed him into our country. Anyone who ‑‑ where does he go?"
"Well, let me get through this real quick. First, this is significant because we will see now what happens in the next month. If he steps down, where is this country a month from now? Is it freedom and democracy? What happens? Two, where does Mubarak go? What country is going to take him? Three, which countries now are set on fire? Is Jordan next? Because once you flip one, now it moves to the next one.
"And all the other countries say, we can do it here. And not only are they empowered in the Middle East, but the revolutionaries, the ones that the New York Times today is finally exposing, they do it in a happy way, that they have made this coalition with the left, with communists, with socialists and Islamists. The New York Times on A‑1 is finally recognizing it.”
Glenn later added as the news continued to unfold:
“The news from Cairo, Egypt is gigantic."
"The Egyptian prime minister says President Mubarak may step down soon. NBC is reporting that he is going to step down tonight. If it goes to the vice president, this is very, very bad for the Egyptian people. If ‑‑ find out the name of the vice president. If he steps down and it goes to the vice president, which is what they were talking about yesterday, this guy is the head of the intelligence service. Not good. The head of the intelligence service, that's like putting the guy who was in ‑‑ I mean, he's the guy in charge of rounding people up and putting them and torturing them. Not good."
"We don't know what kind of a transition it will be at this point. Tonight at 5:00 we are going to have all of the information for you and experts on exactly what to watch."
"I will tell you the New York Times got the story right today. They announce on the front page that, oh, gee, it looks like the Egyptians are working with communists and revolutionaries and the left and liberals. And look, it's jihadists working with communists, even though they disagree with each other."
"Welcome to the real world.”
