Once Mubarak stepped down, everything in Egypt was going to be perfect, right? Sunshine and lollipops and rainbows! Well, despite the media saying things have gone “pretty damn well”, the truth is that violence is still happening even though Mubarak has stepped down. Glenn told the story of Lara Logan, a CBS reporter who was sexually assaulted during the “celebrations” that followed Mubarak’s resignation.
“CBS News correspondent Laura Logan is recovering in an American hospital today after being sexually assaulted and beaten by a mob in Egypt,” Glenn said.
“While everyone was celebrating, while we had these videos on television live, capturing the scene where everybody was saying, ‘Yeah, it's great, it's happy to be free and we had people reporting here in America saying, they're just freedom loving. It's Thomas Jefferson!’”
“While that was happening, in the square CBS News correspondent Laura Logan was surrounded by 200 men. They separated her from her crew and then they brutally repeatedly sexually assaulted her and beat her until a group of second class citizens, women, ran to get the Army and the Army broke it up.”
Glenn read from The Blaze, “President Hosni Mubarak stepped down. CBS correspondent Laura Logan was covering the jubilation in Tahrir Square. For 60 minutes she and her team and security were surrounded by a dangerous elements. Amidst the celebration, more than 200 people whipped into a frenzy. In the crush of the mob, she was separated from her crew. She was surrounded and suffered brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers.”
“She reconnected with her CBS team and returned to her hotel and returned to the United States on the first flight. She is currently in the hospital with no further comment.”
“Horrific,” Glenn said.
“Now, let's tell the next part of the story that I got from Pat this morning that has to be included.”
Nir Rosen, a fellow at the NYU Center for Law and Security, said, “Lara Logan had to outdo Anderson [Cooper]” in regards to her attack and proceeded to give a halfhearted apology in which he called her “warmonger”.
