There don’t seem to be any strong GOP candidates emerging at this point in the Republican field, and its got Glenn and the crew a little concerned. The group handicapped the field on radio this morning.
First, the guys addressed Mitt Romney, who has the big black mark of RomneyCare on his record. While Romney has had the opportunity to address this multiple times, he hasn’t yet. He could say it was states rights and that he thought he could administer a universal healthcare plan, but he hasn’t.
“Don't have anything against Mitt Romney, but Mitt Romney doesn't get how many times have we had for Mitt Romney to say ‘RomneyCare, wow, that was stupid. I believe in state rights. The state wanted to do it. I thought, well, maybe I could do it right, and have I learned my lesson. It always grows into a nightmare, and there's nothing like this the government can do. It doesn't work’,” Glenn said.
Instead of saying he was wrong, Romney has been insistent that when he was in control it worked. Glenn argued that he’s not king, and would be leaving office at some point.
Glenn compared RomneyCare with Tim Pawlenty and his study into cap and trade. Pawlenty, unlike Romney, ended up apologizing, explaining why he took the position, and admitted it was wrong.
Unfortunatley, Glenn felt that the emerging candidates were all more of the same. “Again, if it comes to the usual suspects again - that's the problem. Nobody's going to walk through a wall of fire for the usual suspects. The country is in trouble,” he argued.
“Can any of these guys actually articulate the enemies within? I mean, I haven't heard any of these candidates, except for Michelle Bachmann and Alan West. Who else? Never heard it from Huckabee. I mean, he's having, you know, a low fat toast with Michelle Obama,” Glenn joked.
“Newt Gingrich understands the infection within,” Glenn argued.
“If you have problems with Mitt Romney, Gingrich was sitting with Nancy Pelosi on the beach talking about global warming. How do you get past that? Maybe he has a great answer, but I haven't heard it yet,” Stu said.
