Despite promises that the unemployment would never go above 8%, it’s still sitting steady above 9%, and the most recent data doesn’t make it look like it’s going to be getting any better. But don’t blame Timothy Geithner!
“I don't know if you saw the unemployment rate but that's getting good, huh?” Glenn said as he pointed out that it’s still at 9.2%.
And according to Timothy Geithner, things in the economy won’t be getting better any time soon.
“Well, I think it's going to take a long time still. This is a very tough economy. And I think for a lot of people it's going to be ‑‑ it's going to feel very hard, harder than anything they have experienced in their lifetime now for some time to come. But that is because that is the tragic effects of a crisis this deep and this bad caused by a long period of lost, lost opportunities to do things to make the country stronger,” Geithner said.
“Blood shooting out of my eyes!” Glenn joked. “It is a lost opportunity to do the things that would make the country stronger. What is that, Timmy?”
Pat said that Geithner must be saying “way before we took over and promised you that in three years this thing would be better.”
What are some of those missed opportunities? The radio crew assumed that Geithner was talking about switching to communism ten to fifteen years ago, getting rid of all the CEOs and capitalists, and running up a debt which could never be paid off.
But now that all that opportunity has been squandered, the guys suggested just changing the math formula. For example, you could divide the unemployment rate by two – because there are two different sexes! Or you could just not count men as working humans. There are lots of ways to manipulate statistics!
As for Geithner? He’s busy mopping up the mess other people created for him. “When are your neighbors going to wake up and just start to laugh?” Glenn said. “They are getting away with it.”
