On radio this morning Glenn shared with his listeners the story of a Shekel that dates back to the time of Jesus.
GLENN: I just showed the ‑‑ I just showed the guys here, and I'm showing it on GBTV. Thirty pieces of silver, thirty pieces of silver. Never sell your soul. This is an actual piece of silver from the year of crucifixion.
DAN: It's incredible.
PAT: In order to betray Jesus. That is amazing. It looks like Caesar is on one side, his likeness.
Glenn received the coin from a historian who provides materials to museums in Israel. The historian has been collecting artifacts from the region and for years was able to collect these rare treasures for far less money than they are actually worth. There was one item in particular that the historian bought for $8,000 though the actual value is nearly $800,000.
“He [the historian] said when he started, nobody was looking at this stuff. Nobody was ‑‑ nobody was really collecting it. Nobody was ‑‑ nobody knew any of it,” Glenn said. “And now, he says now people are really starting to ‑‑ what we saw today where people, in the last 30 years they are starting to look and go through the tunnels [in Israel] and they are uncovering all of these things and they are trying to piece their history together.”
There is, however, a growing threat to the efforts of uncovering ancient items like this incredible Shekel.
“The Palestinians and the Palestinian state is trying to destroy all the history,” Glenn lamented. “They are up, they have satellite photos of, on the Temple Mount, using jack hammers and taking and breaking up the Temple Mount up above, destroying all of that history, putting it in dump trucks and taking it out in the middle of the desert, and the Israelis are taking and sifting through.”
It is incredible to think that artifacts like this have been able to survive so many years, and Glenn will be standing among some of the world’s most sacred and historical ground for the Restoring Courage Rally this August.
