The GOP debate last night was pretty eventful. Romney played the role of frontrunner fairly well, Rick Santorum had a few good moments, Herman Cain and John Huntsman Jr. had so-so performances while Michele Bachmann had a few highlights of her own including a dust up with Tim Pawlenty. Another interesting moment was when Byron York asked Bachmann if she'd be 'submissive' to her husband while President.
What did the guys think of each candidate?
Pat: “ think he's probably cognizant of the fact that people find him not electric.”
Glenn: “ We have a guy now who knows how to work a crowd and read a Teleprompter, but that's it. We need somebody with some weight to them. Rick has it.”
Glenn: “He looks presidential. He acts presidential. I think he would make a great President if this were 1992.” He added “We need somebody who truly understands the free market and is not going to get into we had with progressives.”
Stu: “ I honestly think the only thing between Mitt Romney and winning the nominee for the Republicans is his healthcare answer. He just doesn't -- it's just awful. I mean, he can sit here and try to justify his state's rights and everything, but, man, it's a tough road for him.”
Glenn: “Newt Gingrich, he's probably one of the smartest guys up there,” Glenn said before adding he wasn’t going to win.
Stu: “He's not really great, either. He does well in debates from time to time. He does some things well, but the bottom line is we've heard too much from this guy. He's sitting on the couch with Nancy Pelosi on the beach talking about climate change.”
Glenn was impressed with her performance, but knows that she’s going to get hammered along the way. “Michelle Bachmann has a decent family, a decent life, a decent husband. She understands the place that religion plays in her life. She does not push it on anybody else.”
Glenn: “Tim Pawlenty went for the jugular, not for Obama's or the state of our country, instead, he went after Michelle Bachman's, quote, nonexistent record of accomplishments.”
