After three scrapings of the canvas today, I spent the night doing some free hand of an old poster for Bryce Canyon.
This took hours just to sketch and figure out the colors and highlights. This is all shadows and highlights. I can never get the depth right. It will be very disappointing if I have another day like today.

Painting is like golf. One good game (painting) and it keeps you going through the hours or days of frustration where you just can't get anything right.
This painting will be so tedious, I may burn my supplies before finishing. :). My hands are too shaky for detail and I am riddled with ADD. Oof! Wish me luck.
Last try to get one more painting I like before coming home.
Don't know if you can see the detail. I am concerned that the lettering will look too freehand. Most artists use projectors for things like this. I don't have one.
8 hours in and feeling good about this one. Two paintings in 4 days that I actually like will be a record!
All I have thought of all day while painting this is how beautiful this country is.
For those wondering about the blue painting on the ground, I was teaching Raphe how to paint the Milky Way.
