Just saw Ben-Hur!!!
It is a classic. Enough of the classic to satisfy the Heston itch, and updated enough to not make you miss him.
Roma Downy and Mark Burnett will be remembered as the Cecil B. DeMille of our generation. This is the movie we hoped Noah would be.
Six years ago, knowing how history repeats itself, I told my staff that the big classic God movies would come back in fashion and we would see a modern 10 Commandments and Ben-Hur. I almost gave up after seeing Noah. I thought Risen was a good movie, but not the epic I had predicted.
Ben-Hur is the epic you hoped for. I thought they were opening with the chariot scene (they didn't BTW). But when I saw what they were doing I thought: smart, how can you beat the old DeMille chariot scene? It was perfect!
I won't spoil it but it was a totally satisfying chariot race.
To me this is the way religious movies were meant to be. Not preachy, just full of heart and power.
A must-see if you love the story and a double must-see if you don't know the story.
