Eleven-month-old Charlie Gard was born with a condition that leads to weakened muscles and organ dysfunctions, along with other handicaps. Great Ormond Street Hospital in London has decided that after being on life support since October of last year, it is time to take him off.
After hearing this, the parents decided to transfer him to a hospital in America that is willing to do some experimental treatment on their son. The hospital then took the parents to court, claiming they are not permitted to let the baby leave the hospital and that the child should be allowed to “die with dignity.” The hospital won, also declining another hospital’s offer to take in the baby.
