Apparently enraged after listening to a book author interview, Glenn Beck Program Executive Producer Steve ‘Stu’ Burguiere went on a bizarre on-air tirade that, among other things, said we shouldn’t teach kids to read. After the interview, Burguiere stated ‘..why do we want kids to read?’ while also adding ‘…what good does reading do…?’ when discussing the issue with host and voracious reader Glenn Beck.
After barely an hour of arguing against teaching kids to read, Burguiere took a page right out of Senator Barack Obama’s playbook and completely changed the argument and said ‘again it’s not an anti-book argument’ (audio link), without clarifying that just an hour earlier he was advocating against literacy.
He also sent this email in an attempt to backtrack from his earlier anti-reading remarks:
‘Again--its not reading --its books […]in my […]opinion.’
But that’s not consistent with what he stated just shy of an hour earlier.
