Glenn Beck: Media goes after Palin

No agenda here...

GLENN: I'm not really the Us Weekly reader. Now, Stu, can you tell me a little bit about the guy who no, no. Wait, tell me a little bit about the guy who owns Us Weekly and runs Us Weekly and what else he runs, but save that kind of as the after dinner mint after I give you the here's the I'm holding it up for the Insiders. This is hot off the press. Just picked it up downstairs on the subway here in Manhattan from Us Weekly. John McCain's vice president Sarah Palin. It has her holding her son Trig. The headline over the baby's body is, babies, lies, and scandal. Page 58.

Now, what you have to remember is Us Weekly is there is hardly any words in Us Weekly. There are very few words. It's mainly pictures and charts and pictures and then a little more pictures and a few charts. Nobody actually reads the story. But if you did, you'd get this: McCain hadn't vetted his presidential candidate until the night before the historic announcement. The night before he decided to vet her? Where does that fact come from? He hadn't vetted his candidate until the night before, that's Thursday night. Really? It remains unclear if or what the Republican presidential candidate, 70 let me do it right 72, knew about Palin's endless streams of controversies, from Trooper Gate, she is under investigation for dismissing an official who refused to fire her sister's state trooper ex husband. No need to go into the details on Trooper Gate. Let's just call it Trooper Gate. She wanted to fire her sister's ex husband. That's all that matters. What doesn't matter is the fact that the allegations were that he was abusing the family, shooting a stun gun at their child. It doesn't matter that when she said she was going to get a divorce and she wanted to divorce him that he came up to her and said, if you divorce if you hire an attorney, I will kill your father. That, by the way, is one of the verifiable facts in Trooper Gate. The rest, the investigation is still ongoing. We do know he said to her, "I'll kill your father if you hire an attorney." But why by the way, that would be the governor's father. Hmmm. Oh, and by the way, the she wasn't firing, she wasn't firing the guy in Trooper Gate because of the incident. Trooper Gate is really much more about who talked to who. Did anybody go and try to influence the firing of this guy. There were several people including the attorney general of the state that called the state trooper's office and said, what is the status on that. It's under investigation. It's okay: Palin came and said, why is this guy still being paid? Do you realize he has threatened the life of the father of the governor. The guy who's in charge of the investigation said, Mr. Palin, you do not want to be here right now because this will be construed as a and he left and never made contact again. You're telling me that somebody who was according to, you know, the sister's side giving shocks to your child with a stun gun and then verifiably threatens the life of your father if your sister hires an attorney. You are telling me you wouldn't go in? Remember, we're not talking about Washington D.C. We're talking about people who were a soccer mom and an oil rig worker. You're damn right you would. Okay. So they don't explain that in Us Magazine. They just say, from Trooper Gate to her involvement with the Alaska Independence Party, a fringe political group that has sought Alaska's secession from the U.S. .

Stu, do you have the update or Joe, do you have the update on the Independent party? She wasn't a member of the Independence Party.

STU: Oh, yeah, that wasn't even true.

GLENN: Yeah, but it's printed here.

STU: Wait, in a magazine?

GLENN: Yeah, it's printed.

STU: In Us, in the Us Weekly, the paper of record?

GLENN: And her husband, Todd's DUI arrest. The DUI arrest, by the way, happened at the same time that Barry Obama, otherwise known as Barack Obama, was snorting cocaine. I just wanted to point that out. One had a DUI arrest while the other at the same time and by the way, not the candidate, not the presidential candidate but the vice presidential candidate's husband got a DUI while the guy who's at the top of the ticket was snorting cocaine. I just want to point that out.

Then you have Palin herself found herself under the kind of microscope to which the ex mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, population 6700, is no doubt unaccustomed. Excuse me? The ex mayor, would that be like calling Barack Obama the ex community organizer? He is a senator and she is a governor. The most bizarre twist in the mail storm of negative press in a plot directly out of Desperate Housewives, reports circulated online that Bristol, 17, was the real mother of her parents' 4 month old son Trig afflicted with Down Syndrome. Yeah, there were reports. There were reports; they were blogs. The supposed evidence, Bristol's five month absence from high school with mono and photos of Bristol and her mom looking respectively pregnant and not pregnant. See box at right. Mainstream media began reporting this story the mainstream media began reporting the stories that were on the blog!

Okay. Here is the center. I'm going to show this to the Insiders. Okay. This is all the story that nobody reads. Everybody reads highlights, then the center of the pictures. Nowhere in here does it say well, here. Anatomy of a scandal. Questions about these photos led to Alaska governor's stunning admission about her teenage daughter Bristol. What started as Internet rumor quickly built up steam as bloggers speculated Sarah was never pregnant and Trig was really Bristol's baby. Indeed the facts did seem odd.

It doesn't say it's untrue in the box. They show pictures of, where's the bump. I've seen the pictures, verified, of her a month before she gave picture before she gave birth to Trig. Then it shows the pictures of her daughter with, you know, the baby bump. This is outrageous. And then the other Palin controversies, again with Trooper Gate, but they don't explain it. Then I love this one: At the bottom, the second to the last problem with Palin. You ready? You're not going to believe it.

Stu, in fact, before I get to this one, who runs Us Weekly?

STU: Well, Glenn, it's interesting that you would ask that question.

GLENN: Yeah.

STU: It is the same guy who founded Rolling Stone. Which is weird. He's also a maxed out Obama donor, and the odd thing about that is he hasn't Us Weekly hasn't I mean, you have to be fair. He hasn't only covered the Sarah Palin. He's covered also the other big female figure in this election, of course Michelle Obama, and was pretty much the same headline as you had. There was

GLENN: This is babies, lies and scandal.

STU: Yeah. The headline for Michelle Obama was, Michelle Obama, why Barack loves her. I mean, that's pretty much the same story.

GLENN: Okay. So now you know who's running this. I just want to just show you the hypocrisy. Here is the second to the last argument on why she's just too controversial. You ready? In fact, I want you guys to open your mics. Ready? Big bold headline: Iffy friends.

STU: No way. That's made up. No way.

GLENN: Iffy friends. Running as a reformed candidate, Palin swore to clean up corruption. So eyebrows were raised when she accepted the endorsement of Senator Ted Stevens. They don't say this, but let me just put in, who wasn't at the time but now this is where I pick it up again is under indictment for accepting gifts.

STU: (Laughing).

DAN: (Laughing).

GLENN: I mean, it's unbelievable. And you know what? I started with Us Magazine because we've talked several times on this program about the dummy vote and how important the dummy vote is. The Obama campaign and I can't really well, yes, I can say it about his campaign as well because this man never gives any facts. He never gives anything. But the supporters of Obama, they're going for the dummy vote. They're just, they don't care about anything but winning. I have never seen a hatchet job done on anyone like I've seen on Sarah Palin.

Now, I want you to understand. She may not be qualified with the war on terror. I don't know. I haven't heard her speak. She speaks tonight. I don't know if she understands the world as I understand the world. I'll wait to hear tonight. This is obscene on what is happening to this woman and her family, obscene. But you know what? Wait until I give you what the New York Times said today. Wait until I read story after story after story after story. You will not believe the hypocrisy, you know. And I know people right now, "Glenn, of course I'm going to believe it." No, you won't. No, you won't. And you know what? You know what's really sad for these people is they write. I have audio and tonight I have video. So I can not only take their words but I can, today through audio and tonight through video, juxtapose them to the hypocrisy that spilled out of their mouths. Oh, just wait.

As the Senate prepares for former President Trump's second impeachment trial, many are asking whether it's constitutional to try a president after leaving office. Alan Dershowitz, lawyer and host of the of "The Dershow," joined Glenn Beck on the radio program to talk about the legal battles Trump still faces.

Dershowitz said he believes the Senate doesn't have the authority to convict Trump, now that he's a private citizen again, and thus can't use impeachment to bar him from running for office again.

"The Constitution says the purpose of impeachment is to remove somebody. He [Trump] is out of office. There's nothing left to do.
It doesn't say you can impeach him to disqualify him for the future. It says, if you remove him you can then add disqualification, but you can't just impeach somebody to disqualify them," Dershowitz said.

"The Senate can't try ordinary citizens. So once you're an ordinary citizen, you get tried only in the courts, not in the Senate. So it's clearly unconstitutional," he added.

Dershowitz, who served on Trump's legal team during the first impeachment trial, also discussed whether he thinks Trump is legally (or even just ethically) responsible for the Capitol riot earlier this month, and whether those engaging in violence could be considered "domestic terrorists."

A new, shocking CBS News poll shows that the majority of Americans believe they're facing a new enemy: other Americans.

More than two-thirds of poll respondents said they believe democracy in the U.S. is "threatened," and 54% said "other people in America" are the "biggest threat to the American way of life," rather than economic factors, viruses, natural disasters, or foreign actors.

Will it be possible to unite our nation with statistics like that? On "The Glenn Beck Radio Program," Glenn and Stu discussed the poll numbers and what they mean for our future.

Countless leaders on the left are now arguing that removing President Donald Trump from office won't be enough — they're now calling for the president's "cult-like" supporters to be "deprogrammed." And it's not just fringe politicians.

During an appearance on "Real Time with Bill Maher" last week, former NBC anchor Katie Couric said, "The question is, how are we going to really almost deprogram these people who have signed up for the cult of Trump."

Former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and Democratic Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi questioned whether the nation needs "a 9/11-type commission" to determine whether President Trump was colluding with Russian President Vladimir Putin "the day that the insurgents invaded our Capitol." Clinton also made sure to include her favorite "deplorables" in her unsubstantiated conspiracy theory:

"But we now know that not just [Trump] but his enablers, his accomplices, his cult members, have the same disregard for democracy," Clinton said to Pelosi.

Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson and New York Times Magazine's Nikole Hannah-Jones agreed that there is a need for "millions of Americans, almost all white, almost all Republicans" to be deprogrammed and punished, during an MSNBC interview last week.

Now, a story from the Washington Post is also preaching that narrative and even added that we need more restrictions for conservatives on social media and in the broadcast industry.

"So now we have to be deprogrammed? We've heard this over and over and over and over again, for months," said Glenn Beck on the radio program Tuesday. He read through the shocking details of the Washington Post op-ed and discussed the extraordinary dangers of the latest anti-conservative movement in America.

As calls for censorship and restrictions against conservative voices get louder, Glenn Beck said he feels an "awesome responsibility" to speak, not the words he'd personally like to say, but those he believes the Lord would want him to share.

"It's an awesome responsibility, and one that I am not worthy of," Glenn said. "I want to say ... what He wants me to say. And I have to listen very carefully, because I feel the same way you do. But that will get us nowhere."

Glenn said it's time for Americans who are awake — not woke — to come together, no matter which side of the political aisle you're on, and stand with the truth.

"We are the Alamo, we will stand. But we desperately, desperately need you," Glenn said. "We need the people who are awake — not woke — awake. You may disagree with us. We are your allies, not your enemies. And if you will not stand with us in our hour of need, there will be no one left to stand with you in your hour of need. We must all come together, anyone who is awake."
