VOICE: Barack Obama, John McCain. Two candidates, one winner. The Battle of the Headlines is about to begin. First here's the pregame analysis with Ted Stantley and Gary Veckers.
STU: I tell you, very exciting debate last night between the two presidential candidates. Gary, what do you think -- how do you think this will translate to the headlines?
DAN: I tell you what, it's a great debate but I'm going to have to say the maverick's maverick pick of a running mate paid off in maverick proportions last night. I think the press will have to give the win to the maverick of the two. She was so mavericky that I thought I was actually watching Top Gun she said maverick so many times.
STU: I don't think that's what she means by maverick.
DAN: I think it was. You could see the maverickosity on the stage. You could see the history, singing the crazy songs, you lost that loving feeling and one admiral's daughter, you know, Penny Benjamin.
STU: You might be watching a little bit too much TBS, Gary.
VOICE: The battle starts now. Here's Glenn Beck with today's headlines.
GLENN: Headline number one for John McCain. Palin's not ready. Headline number two, Palin struggles to keep up with Joe Biden. Headline number three: Palin all attitude and image to Biden's facts and focus. And headline number four: Perky Palin lacks seriousness.
VOICE: It's time for halftime analysis with our own Ted Stantley and Gary Veckers.
STU: Wow, do I hate the media. Doesn't it sound like the -- that's the amount of --
GLENN: I was just saying the same thing. Unbelievable, these people.
STU: Wow. Doesn't it sound like the press was very impressed?
DAN: No, it doesn't. But Ted --
STU: It's so true. I just can't take any more. I just can't take it anymore! Hey, Gary, let me ask you this: Doesn't it sound like the press was very impressed with your maverick?
DAN: You've got to never leave your wingman there, Teddy, never, ever leave your wingman.
STU: If you make another Top Gun reference I'm going to have to tell you that I pray you end up like Goose.
VOICE: The second half starts now. Once again here's Glenn Beck.
GLENN: Barack Obama headline number one: Biden strategy edges Palin's style. Headline number two: Biden's ready for the job. Headline number three: Poll says Biden the winner. And headline number four: Biden polished. Palin short on substance.
VOICE: Once again Barack Obama comes out on top. Gee, what a frickin' surprise.
GLENN: Stu, let me ask you a question.
STU: Yes.
GLENN: When the end comes, do you think that there's enough people in America that know that I'm not part of the media? Because I just think that they're gonna come, I just think that they're gonna come with torches for these people at some point.
STU: No, you're in trouble here. You have to make sure you make that -- because I think a lot of people when they look at you, they think, wow, mainstream media. Maybe not. Perhaps not. It is unreal. It was interesting to watch last night of the coverage afterwards. It's like, you -- people don't pay attention to what happens anymore. It's just, if you're on this side, then you remain on that side. If you are on the other side, you remain on that side. You just walk down. When you find someone who actually -- look, I'll tell you last night I thought Joe Biden was really good. I thought he did a very solid job. I think he did everything that he had to do. Now, he does -- boldface lies several times but he doesn't have to do anything better than that. He's just maintaining. I thought Palin was great.
