How to win the argument de jour with logic and facts
'Colin Powell Endorsement'
What the liberal whiners say:
'Well, you've tried everything, and nothing has worked. Then when all the chips are down, a 4-star REPUBLICAN GENERAL like Colin Powell comes out and endorses Barack Obama! Sort of kills the last remaining grain of doubt doesn't it? You don't even have the MILITARY now!
'Oh, don't start with the RACE thing! That's got nothing to do with it. The fact is, even the MILITARY is supporting Barack Obama!'
'That doesn't mean Colin Powell's endorsement is about race! I've heard you praise Powell over and over, now, all of a sudden, you can't trust his judgment?'
'That just shows how BAD John McCain is as a candidate for Commander in Chief!'
Your winning, logical, reasoned arguments
1. Kind of leads you to believe it might be about something OTHER than qualifications, doesn't it?
2. Really? The Army Times just polled the military branches. Here's what they found. The Army favors McCain, 68-23%; the Navy-McCain, 69-24; Air Force-McCain, 67-24; the Marines, 75-18; Hispanics in the military-McCain 63-27; whites-McCain 76-18; the military OVERALL-McCain 68-23; now we come to Blacks in the military...hmm...Obama 79-12. Where would I get the impression that RACE just might have something to do with it?
3. Well, I have to wonder about a 4-star general who endorses a candidate that went behind the back of the current Administration in their recent negotiations with Iraq, and tried to undermine and delay a deal to begin a troop draw-down until after the election so that HE would get credit for it. That's playing politics with the troops, and yes, I'd have to question Colin Powell's judgment, getting behind a candidate like that.
4. Obama has also made wild accusations that our troops "air raided villages and killed civilians". I wouldn't think Colin Powell endorse a candidate like that. Or one who has promised deep cuts to our military spending, including missile defense systems and slowing development of future combat systems. I wouldn't think that our generals would want to go into the next war with equipment from several wars ago. But maybe that's just me.
