VOICE: The Glenn Beck program presents more truth behind America's March to Socialism.
GLENN: I don't know about you, but I was very excited to hear about details on Barack Obama's climate bill. This is ‑‑ I mean, this is a big plan to give you, the hard working middle class American a tax credit. Not a refund. A tax credit. Fantastic. It's a flawless plan really. Mandate a limit to the claim for global warming, then tax those polluters who go over the limit. It's great. Crime and punishment really. And you benefit. Permits are going to be distributed to companies that meet increasingly lower pollution targets. Those other companies, you know, especially those smaller ones without any kind of lobbyists, they are going to pay. Obama had called for auctioning off 100% of those pollution permits which he said would have raised $650 billion over the next decade. That's all free. I mean, think of the huge tax cuts coming your way. Middle class, man, you are going to be rolling in the money. That's $65 billion right into your pocket. That's $2,200 for every person in the United States, free! Well, anything that sounds, you know, too good to be true is too good to be true. When are we ever going to learn that? First of all, it's not free. The tax credit is specifically designed to help pay for the massive increases in energy costs to consumers since the energy companies have already said they are going to pass the cost of cap and trade on to customers. So there goes a lot of your money. Oh, that's why they called it a tax credit.
Secondly, House Democrats announced on Friday that they are not going to auction off 100% of the pollution permits. No, they're going to auction off a slightly lower number, just a little bit lower than 100%. They are going to auction off 15% of them. Uh‑huh. Didn't they say when they decided they were going to ‑‑ when the progressives brought us the income tax, they said, don't worry, it's not going to be very much ‑‑ it's only going to be 1%. 1%. They claimed there would be riots in the streets if income tax ever went over 5%. It will never happen, uh‑huh, uh‑huh. Well, they are only going to do 15% of these. So you'll get 15% of the money originally, you know, designed for you. It was right here. It's, you get it. Skyrocketing cost of your monthly energy bill which will go up directly because of something the government did, they are going to give you back about $300 a year, $25 a month. Where's the rest of the money, 85% of it going? Quote: The rest of the money will be given away to a variety of industries and states. Wait a minute, this sounds like that California story we had a minute ago. To ease the cost and help pay for improvements in energy efficiency and investments in clean energy technology. Let me translate: A variety of industries? Oh, I doubt anything was shady going on here. No way GE gets any of this money. Helping states ease costs? In other words, you get to pay for California's failed liberal policies through cap and trade so they can keep doing, you know, the same failed liberal policies. And finally, the "Help pay for investments in clean energy technology," hey, it costs a lot now, but think of all the savings you'll get later. Just like the ones you got from that climate bill!
