Glenn Beck: Freedom of Speech Is Under Attack

Watch Glenn Beck weekdays at 5p & 2a ET on the Fox News Channel

America, I have to tell you, that your freedom of speech is under attack.

Our most precious right — the one that leads directly to freedom of religion and our freedom of the press, the supposed watchdogs of our Republic — is being brutally and viciously assaulted.

Here's what happened today:

Jake Tapper asked Robert Gibbs about the White House's war on Fox News. Gibbs responded: "We render opinion based on some of their coverage and the fairness of that coverage."

Tapper then says: "That's a pretty sweeping declaration that they're not a news organization. How are they different from, say another, say ABC, MSNBC, Univision?"

Gibbs then says: "You and I should watch sometime around 9 o'clock tonight or five this afternoon."

We've chronicled the White House onslaught against Fox News, which intensified over the weekend with the presidents' two main men, David Axelrod and Rahm Emanuel, using virtually the exact same words to smear Fox on their various Sunday talk show offensives.

Where is the rest of the so-called Fourth Estate? Are they crying foul? Are they challenging the pathetic nature of these attacks? Has a single one of these "watchdogs" dared to hint to the attackers that this channel consistently — during its news broadcasts, presents both sides; that the Pew Research Center found that Fox's coverage of the 2008 election campaign was the most balanced of any network; that then-presidential candidate Secretary of State Hillary Clinton even said Fox News treated her more fairly then the others:

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

HILLARY CLINTON: There were a lot of times that I appreciated the commentators and reporters on Fox.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

Has anyone pointed out that if it's opinion or perspective the White House is concerned about, then they may want to look into the embarrassing, "thrill up their leg" bias of MSNBC — the network owned by GE. Wait, whose CEO is on Barack Obama's economic advisory panel?

This isn't about Fox News. Sadly, the other news organizations know that and are silent anyway. They've either become such cowards that they're willing to play along to get along or they're enjoying their new role as lapdogs for the administration, rather than watchdogs for the Republic.

So, what is this about? It's about a multi-pronged war on freedom of speech, waged by progressives, on *every front.

Take a look at what is happening in our educational system. While you're working to put food on your table, your kids are being indoctrinated at school:

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

Mmm-mmm-mmm.

Barack Hussein Obama,

He said red, yellow, black or white,

All are equal in his sight.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

All are equal in his sight? These are things we used to have our children say or sing about Jesus. Now we can't even sing about Jesus at Christmas, but your kids are learning that it's Obama deciding equality.

As early as elementary school, our kids are taught that capitalism is wrong — even evil:

(BEGIN 'STORY OF STUFF' VIDEO CLIP)

NARRATOR: Then, along came the corporation. Now the reason the corporation looks bigger than the government, is that the corporation is bigger than the government! Of the 100 largest economies on Earth now, 51 are corporations. And, as the corporation has grown in size and power, we've seen a little change in the government where they're a little more concerned that things are working out for those guys than for us.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

Yet, heaven forbid, while they're spooning that into your kids' brains, they fail to tell them about all the new legislation that's been bought and paid for by unions, global corporations and special interests. Maybe they don't tell them these things because they're too busy teaching your children about cross-dressing — as seen on Bill O'Reilly's show.

On our college campuses in 2005, the last time a study of this kind was done, 72 percent of professors identified themselves as liberal; 15 percent conservative. Seventy-two to fifteen! And if anything, my guess is, it's worse now. In our elite universities, 87 percent of professors said they were liberal; 13 percent conservative.

Let me paraphrase the White House minions David Axelrod, Rahm Emanuel and Robert Gibbs: That doesn't seem right. All I'm saying is that it's about "perspective." What kind of fair perspective are we getting from universities?

In the world of art, the White House has enlisted the aid of the top artists in the country to push their agenda with taxpayer dollars:

(BEGIN AUDIO TAPE)

MICHAEL SKOLNIC, RUSSELL SIMMONS POLITICAL DIRECTOR: The president has a clear arts agenda and has been very supportive of using art and supporting art in creative ways to talk about some of the issues that we face here in this country.

Continue to get involved in those things, to support some of the president's initiatives, but also to do things that we are passionate about and to push the president and to push his administration.

(END AUDIO TAPE)

State-sponsored propaganda. A couple of years ago, when it was discovered that the Pentagon was using propaganda to try to win the hearts and minds of the people of Iraq and Afghanistan, the left was outraged that the evil George Bush would dare engage in a propaganda campaign. Yet they are silent as this president uses propaganda against his own people.

I went to a Broadway play this weekend with my wife: "Memphis" — it was fantastic. Except for the two songs in it about "Hope and Change." Are Rahm Emanuel and David Axelrod calling up Broadway producers now, asking them to help out with the agenda, the way Yosi Sargent did at the direction of Valerie Jarrett and Buffy Wicks?

It sure wouldn't be unprecedented. Look at what the White House has accomplished with "Service Week," all this week on TV as Michelle Obama announced. Sixty programs are incorporating some kind of service or volunteer theme into their shows.

Now, some will say that it's just easier for the media to do what the president asks them to do; that whenever there is a request like this, the networks comply because they don't want hassles with their licenses being renewed or whatever other government interference could result from non-compliance.

But is it really about service, or is it about a never-ending campaign?

White House Office of Public Engagement Deputy Director Buffy Wicks says: "Part of my role [at the White House] is working on service, and so when we were thinking about how do we take a lot of this energy that's out there, how do we translate folks who have just been engaged in electoral politics and engage them in really the process of governing, of being part of this administration in a little bit of a different way because politics is one thing and governing is something totally separate, we really saw service as the platform by which we can do that."

Notice, she didn't say it's about serving the country — she said it's about helping the administration. In other words: "Ask not what this country can do for you; ask what you can do for this administration."

Oh, I know what you can do! You can help them sign away U.S. sovereignty, under the new global warming treaty. And the way to help Barack Obama do that is to participate in Green Week.

Green Week is something really special for broadcast television — especially over at, wait for it, GE-owned NBC. NBC has all of their prime time lineup participate in fascinating "green" storylines when the now-annual event comes around. And who could forget the "very special" green event back in 2007, when NBC did their NFL halftime show, by candlelight:

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIPS)

BOB COSTAS: As part of NBC Universal's "Green is Universal" initiative, we have turned out the lights in the studio to kick off a week that will include more than 150 hours of programming designed to raise awareness on environmental issues.

Matt is actually live somewhere in the Arctic Circle. Hello Matt!

(END VIDEO CLIPS)

Just think of all the electricity they saved! I'm sure it made up for flying their reporters all over the world in jets, to some of the most remote locations on Earth with cameras and crew to cover horrifying scenes of global warming in the frigid cold of the Arctic, among other exotic locales, I'm sure the electricity saved, using candles in the studio at halftime, offset all of that.

That's akin to the story that came out yesterday on Arnold Schwarzenegger who, of course, is all about global warming and who used to fly his Gulfstream jet to get to work in Sacramento and just signed an environmental exemption bill, to clear the way for a new NFL football stadium in Los Angeles. So, obviously, Governor Schwarzenegger really believes in the planet, the environment, protecting the Earth from the ravages of climate change — unless, he needs to get to work really fast or L.A. is trying to woo a football team to town.

When will we say enough to all of this? On second thought, you'd better keep it to yourself, if you're around your kids, because they can see the effects of the "settled science" of global warming" for themselves, straight from Hollywood, on the big screen.

Any thinking human being knows this isn't about climate change; it's about redistribution of wealth. But that's OK, because Michael Moore is teaching us that capitalism is evil:

(BEGIN 'CAPITALISM' VIDEO CLIP)

MICHAEL MOORE: We're here to get the money back for the American people.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I understand sir, but you can't come in here.

MOORE: Can you just take the bag?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: No.

MOORE: Take it up there?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Absolutely not.

MOORE: I've got more bags. $10 billion probably won't fit in here.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

So, the progressive agenda permeates education, the arts, prime-time TV and movies. The same mindset is reflected in newspapers all across this country. Nearly all of those papers are failing miserably. So there's one area where the attacks will end, right?

Wrong.

President Obama says he'll help save the papers: "I haven't seen detailed proposals yet, but I'll be happy to look at them."

So we have education, arts, prime-time TV and the broadcast news, plus CNN and MSNBC, movies and newspapers — all promoting the progressive agenda.

Well, you might say, OK, at least there's still the Internet. So far, you'd be right. But this week, the so-called "net neutrality" issue comes up again in Congress. Here's yet another example of where your freedom of speech is being threatened in the name of "protecting" you from big, bad, evil, money-making corporations — in this case, Internet service providers.

You can still exercise your freedom of speech on talk radio. But again, you need to be protected from big bad, evil, money-making, non-diverse corporations. The fact that there are plenty of liberal talk stations that no one listens to, makes no difference to them. The fact that you have chosen to listen to a certain radio show and could choose to stop at any time is meaningless. They want you to be able to choose to end the life of an unborn child — but you can't choose to listen to "The Glenn Beck Program."

(BEGIN AUDIO CLIPS)

MARK LLOYD, FCC DIVERSITY 'CZAR': What we're really saying is that the Fairness Doctrine is not enough.

We are in a position where you have to, you have to say who is going to step down so someone else can have power?

(END AUDIO CLIPS)

So you can see the effort to silence Fox News isn't about Fox News. It's just the most visible target in the war on free speech.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIPS)

RAHM EMANUEL, WHITE HOUSE CHIEF OF STAFF: The way to look at it — the way we — the president looks at it and we look at it, is it's not a news organization so much as it has a perspective.

DAVID AXELROD, SENIOR OBAMA ADVISER: They're not really a news station, if you watch, even it's not just their commentators but a lot of their news programming. It's really not news, it's pushing a point of view.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

Isn't having differing points of view... diversity?

I'm confused. How could this administration — through the FCC — be pushing for diversity and, at the same time, be trying to silence all those with a differing opinion on radio, TV, the arts, movies and newspapers?

And what does that leave you with? Your right to assemble? Oh no, that too is at stake.

Don't you see this is a full frontal assault on every avenue of free speech? Stay with us this week, as we uncover the effort to take away your First Amendment rights. We'll show you the people involved and the underhanded ways their trying to pull it off.

On the "Glenn Beck Radio Program" Monday, Harvard Law professor and lawyer on President Donald Trump's impeachment defense team Alan Dershowitz explains the history of impeachment and its process, why the framers did not include abuse of power as criteria for a Constitutional impeachment, why the Democrats are framing their case the way they are, and what to look for in the upcoming Senate trial.

Dershowitz argued that "abuse of power" -- one of two articles of impeachment against Trump approved by House Democrats last month -- is not an impeachable act.

"There are two articles of impeachment. The second is 'obstruction of Congress.' That's just a false accusation," said Dershowitz. "But they also charge him, in the Ukraine matter, with abuse of power. But abuse of power was discussed by the framers (of the U.S. Constitution) ... the framers refused to include abuse of power because it was too broad, too open-ended.

"In the words of James Madison, the father of our Constitution, it would lead presidents to serve at the will of Congress. And that's exactly what the framers didn't want, which is why they were very specific and said a president can be impeached only for treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors," he added.

"What's alleged against President Trump is not criminal," added Dershowitz. "If they had criminal issues to allege, you can be sure they would have done it. If they could establish bribery or treason, they would have done it already. But they didn't do it. They instead used this concept of abuse of power, which is so broad and general ... any president could be charged with it."

On Friday's radio program, Bill O'Reilly joins Glenn Beck discuss the possible outcomes for the Democrats in 2020.

Why are former President Barack and First Lady Michelle Obama working overtime to convince Americans they're more moderate than most of the far-left Democratic presidential candidates? Is there a chance of a Michelle Obama vs. Donald Trump race this fall?

O'Reilly surmised that a post-primary nomination would probably be more of a "Bloomberg play." He said Michael Bloomberg might actually stand a chance at the Democratic nomination if there is a brokered convention, as many Democratic leaders are fearfully anticipating.

"Bloomberg knows he doesn't really have a chance to get enough delegates to win," O'Reilly said. "He's doing two things: If there's a brokered convention, there he is. And even if there is a nominee, it will probably be Biden, and Biden will give [him] Secretary of State or Secretary of Treasury. That's what Bloomberg wants."

On the "Glenn Beck Radio Program" Friday, award-winning investigative reporter John Solomon, a central figure in the impeachment proceedings, explained his newly filed lawsuit, which seeks the records of contact between Ukraine prosecutors and the U.S. Embassy officials in Kiev during the 2016 election.

The records would provide valuable information on what really happened in Ukraine, including what then-Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter were doing with Ukrainian energy company, Burisma Holdings, Solomon explained.

The documents, which the State Department has withheld thus far despite repeated requests for release by Solomon, would likely shed light on the alleged corruption that President Donald Trump requested to be investigated during his phone call with the president of Ukraine last year.

With the help of Southeastern Legal Foundation, Solomon's lawsuit seeks to compel the State Department to release the critical records. Once released, the records are expected to reveal, once and for all, exactly why President Trump wanted to investigate the dealings in Ukraine, and finally expose the side of the story that Democrats are trying to hide in their push for impeachment.

"It's been a one-sided story so far, just like the beginning of the Russia collusion story, right? Everybody was certain on Jan. 9 of 2017 that the Christopher Steele dossier was gospel. And our president was an agent of Russia. Three years later, we learned that all of that turned out to be bunk, " Solomon said.

"The most important thing about politics, and about investigations, is that there are two sides to a story. There are two pieces of evidence. And right now, we've only seen one side of it," he continued. "I think we'll learn a lot about what the intelligence community, what the economic and Treasury Department community was telling the president. And I bet the story was way more complicated than the narrative that [House Intelligence Committee Chairman] Adam Schiff [D-Calif.] has woven so far."

Carter Page, a former advisor to Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign, found himself at the center of the Russia probe and had his reputation and career destroyed by what we now know were lies from our own intelligence system and the media.

On the TV show Thursday, Page joined Glenn Beck to speak out about how he became the subject of illegal electronic surveillance by the FBI for more than two years, and revealed the extent of the corruption that has infiltrated our legal systems and our country as a whole.

"To me, the bigger issue is how much damage this has done to our country," Page told Glenn. "I've been very patient in trying to ... find help with finding solutions and correcting this terrible thing which has happened to our country, our judicial system, DOJ, FBI -- these once-great institutions. And my bigger concern is the fact that, although we keep taking these steps forward in terms of these important findings, it really remains the tip of the iceberg."

Page was referencing the report by Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz, which revealed that the FBI made "at least 17 significant errors or omissions" in its Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) applications for warrants to spy on Page, a U.S. citizen.

"I think this needs to be attacked from all angles," Glenn said. "The one angle I'm interested in from you is, please tell me you have the biggest badass attorneys that are hungry, starving, maybe are a little low to pay their Mercedes payments right now, and are just gearing up to come after the government and the media. Are they?"

I can confirm that that is the case," Page replied.
