GLENN: And all they're doing, again, is changing the language.
Let me give you something. This is in an unrelated topic, but this is from Newsweek. Newsweek, The Revolution Won't Be Demonized is the headline. Get this: The Revolution Won't Be Demonized. Now, they'll tell you that, "We're not in a revolution, we're not having a revolution, there is no revolution. Fundamental transformation, that was just a turn of a phrase. We're not there's no revolutionaries. What are you talking about." Newsweek magazine: The Revolution Won't Be Demonized.
I was reminded of this I'm reading the article here from Raina Kelley. "I was reminded of this as I read about Fox News host Glenn Beck's excoriation of progressive politics." Quote: Progressivism is the cancer of America and eating our Constitution, he stated in a key note speech at last weekend's conservative political action conference, and it was designed to eat the Constitution, to progress past the Constitution. The nation and Mediaite.com both did a great job refuting his arguments but I was surprised not to see any real defense of progressive politics aside from Jon Stewart on the Daily Show.
Okay. Well, how could you refute my arguments if you weren't refuting what progressivism was? And the Daily Show, I believe the only thing that the Daily Show said was the public library is a progressive idea. And I guess if you want to, but I could show you the pictures of the New York public library when they first started, and it's got John Astor's name on it and several other very wealthy people that donated all of the books and the... see, it was the rich that... but I mean, why get bogged down in Jon Stewart arguments.
"Maybe others on the left thought his argument was too factile and knuckleheaded to refute." See, that's a I'm just too stupid to refute. "But someone has to stoop to conquer. Progressives need to put up a real show on defending their politics because if they don't " listen to this "they may one day confront a world where people say progressive and mean socialist revolutionaries who want to destroy America." I can only hope. "Words matter in part because it is possible to change their meaning over time." This is why I said to you last week, I know look, I have profound respect for Rush Limbaugh, but Rush Limbaugh says I'm going to call them liberals because it drives them crazy. I agree with him, it does. But I'm not here to drive them crazy. What my job is, Rush, Rush relish and he's very good at it. He's great at driving people crazy on the left, and he loves it. My job is not to do that. That's his job. My job is to set the record straight and to teach the history of what happened to this country. And what happened to this country, the reason why liberals, they hate it is because, not because of what Rush Limbaugh did to expose liberals which, it is. He's the guy who said, "Liberalism." And he's the one that defined them and showed the American people exactly how bad they were. But that was the second attempt.
First the progressives tried it under their own banner, the progressive banner. Then when it didn't work, the progressives hid under the liberal banner. They took and changed the meaning of the word liberal. It didn't mean that until progressives took it. And they did exactly what they do on everything else, political correctness. They changed the meaning of words. Now they hate it because they're trapped underneath it. But they will morph, and they're already doing it, morphing into progressive and getting people to go yeah, yeah, I'm like progressive because it's, like, so cool. Don't let them do it. Follow them. Follow them. Because all they do, they are like snakes. They shed their skin and then they just move up to something else. Don't stand there and point at the skin, point at the snake! So what is he doing? He has taken the word now of reconciliation and decided to change it, instead of reconciliation, to majority. Because who's against majority? It's the same thing they've done with the republic. We don't talk about a republic anymore. We talk about a democracy. We're not a democracy. In fact, Thomas Jefferson made it very clear. A democracy has never, ever survived.
You know what a democracy is? Two wolves and a sheep deciding what to have for lunch. That's what a democracy is. We're not a democracy. We're a republic. Period. Play within the system and hold people's feet to the fire. They've trained us to accept word changes. Stimulus? It's no longer stimulus. It's a jobs bill. It's the same thing. But for some reason a jobs bill is okay. Follow the snake. And point to the snake. Not the skin. Point to the snake. "Hey, see this jobs bill? It's a stimulus bill. That's what it is."
