GLENN: Harry Reid has said now that the GOP has lost sanity or their principles by calling for a hearing on birthright citizenship.
GLENN: Okay. We are the only country in the world that has anchor babies and do you know why we have anchor babies? We have anchor babies because the Democrats in Reconstruction tried to say, "Oh, well, you can free the slaves, but they're not citizens. So when they have a baby, the baby's got to go back to Africa." Really, Democrats? That's that was as good as you had? That's what it was. That's why we had anchor babies. We had to put that into the Constitution so you couldn't claim that they weren't citizens. Well, now, look what it's turned into. There was no Sunset on that. Oh, wow, kind of almost like now the PATRIOT Act. It's going to turn out to be really something very, very good. So he says they lost sanity or principles by calling for a hearing on birthright citizenship. Unfortunately for Harry Reid, there's something called an audio vault.
REID: If making it easy to be an illegal alien isn't enough, how about offering a reward for being an illegal immigrant? No sane country would do that.
REID: Guess again.
PAT: Uh oh.
REID: If you break our laws by entering this country without permission and give birth to a child, we reward that child with U.S. citizenship.
PAT: Shocking, Harry.
REID: And guarantee of full access to all public and social services this society provides. And that's a lot of services.
PAT: Yes, it is.
REID: Is it any wonder that 2/3 of the babies born at taxpayer expense, country, county run hospitals in Los Angeles are born to illegal alien mothers.
PAT: That was Harry Reid in 1993.
GLENN: Now, hang on just a second. Could you play just the beginning of that again?
GLENN: Just play the beginning of that.
REID: If making it illegal
GLENN: Stop for a second. Because he said recently that GOP has lost its sanity or its principles by calling for a hearing on birthright citizenship.
REID: If making it easy to be an illegal alien isn't enough, how about offering a reward for being an illegal immigrant. No sane country would do that.
GLENN: Okay, stop.
GLENN: Hang on just a second. So no sane country would offer citizenship as a birthright.
PAT: And a reward for illegal aliens.
GLENN: No sane country would do that.
PAT: And yet now you're insane
GLENN: If you want to question it.
PAT: Yeah. Huh.
GLENN: Wouldn't it be nice if people like Harry Reid had principles?
PAT: It would. It would.
GLENN: You know, I say this, I say this as a member of his same faith, but he said, you know, he doesn't understand how people can be, you know, GOP if they're what did he say exactly?
PAT: If they're Hispanic I think was the
GLENN: Yeah, if they're Hispanic, he doesn't know how they can be a member of the
REID: I don't know how anyone of Hispanic heritage could be a Republican, okay? Do I need to say more?
PAT: No, Harry, I think that's dumb enough.
GLENN: Harry, I would love to have a conversation with you because I don't know how you understand the principles of our particular faith and you are, you are doing the things that you do. Not all of them. I mean, look, I know a lot of people that I disagree with in my faith. I vehemently disagree with a lot of people in my faith on political stuff. But some of the stuff, I don't understand it. And I would love to have a conversation with him and figure out, how do you make that work.
PAT: Well, he's obviously drifted into extremism like I mean, he was against birthright citizenship in 1993. He thought it was insane.
GLENN: How did he do that?
PAT: Now all of a sudden, he is so much for it that he wants to investigate the people or he wants to disparage the people who are calling for a hearing to fix the situation. I mean, how does that even happen?
GLENN: I don't know. I don't know.
PAT: It's bizarre.
GLENN: Is he for
GLENN: He was also, helped steamroll the healthcare which included abortion, and he knew it. Any sane person knew it. How do you do that? And I know he's a you know, he's a I don't question his I don't question his salvation or anything like that. I just don't know how people make those connections in their heads if you're really truly a devout member of any faith and your faith is strong against abortion, et cetera, et cetera. I don't know how he does that. Now, again I'm not questioning. I just, I would love to hear the explanation. Because people like me, I'm disparaged because I'm of the same faith as Harry Reid. And yet he gets a pass. Why? Because he's passing all the things that I happen to be against that are faith based, and I don't get it. I don't get it.
STU: It has nothing it's all about politics.
GLENN: Yeah, and I would love to hear and I mean this as an honest question. I would love to hear his explanations for those in a theological sort of way. How do you make that leap in your head
GLENN: to be where you're at if you indeed are a practicing member of the faith. I don't understand it.
STU: And all indications are that he is.
GLENN: Oh, no, no. I know he is.
PAT: Oh, he is.
GLENN: I know he is.
