On August 28, 2010, hundreds of thousands of people from all over the country gathered at the feet of Abraham Lincoln on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. They came to demand better from both their leaders and themselves, to put principles like honor and integrity back in their rightful places, and to show the country that if we are a nation without faith then we are a nation without a future.
While the speeches resonated with many that day, it’s the images that truly captured the enduring spirit of what the event was really all about: Faith—people from all walks of life holding hands and praying with each other; Hope—a proud father hugging his young son; and Charity—strangers offering food, water and even hotel rooms to others.
To ensure that spirit is never forgotten, we are putting together a keepsake book that tells the story of 8/28 through pictures. While many of the stunning shots were taken by George Lange (Glenn’s personal photographer), others were taken by ordinary people who put their lives on hold to come to the mall that day. Together, these photos, combined with thoughts from Glenn and personal stories from those who attended, paint an enduring picture of love, respect and honor that is worth far more than the words spoken that weekend.
